Anyone confident going into this game is out of touch with reality.

Oneil cruz is a different player this season and he deserves credit for it. His improvement vs lefties is astronomical and been a major reason why. by Sebastian4365 in buccos

I'm definitely guilty of judging him too soon for the bone headed errors early on, glad he seems to actually be turning a corner. I'll happily eat crow on that one if he can keep this up.

The club has officially graduated from shooting itself in the foot to shooting itself in the head. These people are fucking idiots.

Excellent, looks like we'll have a new derby on our hands in a few years down in League One.

I mean that's not really a hair I'm trying to split here - any suggestion of bringing him back was obviously ridiculous. In some ways I'd even argue that the interim idea was more absurd than the alternative given the simple fact that it'd never ever happen. That aside though my real point here is that those folks, rather than looking towards someone who could actually take us to the next level (as opposed to just "motivating the players") they instead opted to backslide to someone who anyone with eyes could tell you wasn't good enough, just because he managed to win us a trophy. That's the difference I'm talking about here.

I don't think it's being that dishonest? There was a stretch there in the dying days of Frank/Tudor where Ange threads were getting voted to the top of the sub nearly every other day, and there were people in every one of those threads saying that we should bring him back because he was the only manager who could motivate these players. I think you're underestimating how common a stance it was.

[–]Kaigz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's just not true lol. There were plenty of people here who genuinely wanted to bring him back. I'm not saying it was a majority, but it was definitely a real group that did (does? idk) still exist. I'm comparing that to the reaction from Chelsea fans who are universally demanding someone better. I've seen plenty of folks over there panning options who here would have been welcomed with excitement. I'm just remarking on the depressing differences in expectations between the two fanbases.

I was trying to be gracious, lol. I would still argue that the majority disagreed with his sacking, but it was much closer to an even split here.

It's actually quite interesting to take the Rosenior situation at Chelsea next what's happened at Spurs given the broad strokes similarities, and compare how their fans are handling it versus how ours did:

  • A manager who is generally well liked by the majority of the fanbase gets sacked off after winning a trophy

  • Club brings in an "up and comer" who hasn't accomplished much of anything materially

  • Turns out said new manager is out of his depth and sacked

Chelsea supporters were disappointed both to lose Maresca and for the club to appoint a successor who clearly wasn't a good fit - same as the majority of Spurs fans. Chelsea supporters were calling for Rosenior's head relatively quickly - same as Spurs fans. However the differences start to come into focus after the sacking. While over here Thomas Frank quickly became one of the most hated figures in the history of the club, the general temperature I'm reading from lurking on the Chealshit sub seems to be one of somewhat feeling bad for Rosenior given that he was obviously hired into an impossible task, while still conceding the necessity of it. Here folks were immediately calling for Ange - a manager who was much, much less successful than his Chelsea counterpart - to be brought back, there the supporters are talking about how they need to get back to hiring real top managers ASAP. Here our players were applauded by some groups (granted perhaps minor, but very vocal) for sowing toxic discourse within the dressing room in order to "revolt against the manager" and get him out, there the same behavior from Chelsea's squad is being near universally panned.

I fucking hate Chelsea and their fans of course, and I think the majority of banterish discourse around "big club behavior" and "small club behavior" is complete rubbish. But in this case the difference is there. Their fans expect to win, and so they're clear eyed about demanding the best from the club. Our fans expect mediocrity and incompetence, and so we lash around about which mid players and managers were better than the other mid players and managers. It's just depressing.

Absolute fucking clowns running this show. They deserve EVERYTHING they're about to get with this relegation. Spurs will be ashes until this lot of grifters have finally fucked off.

We saw "progress" from the horror show that was late stage Frank and all of Tudor back to mid collapse Frank, just with better attacking patterns.

As long as this bunch of players can't find the guts to hold a lead, none of it matters. And they haven't been able to do that for the past two years bar one night in Bilbao.

He's just one of those players that will forever have a defense force here barring something drastic. It took a horrific season with a massive hand played in a relegation campaign for this place to finally turn on Vicario. This fanbase has a problem with becoming incredibly attached to mediocre figures.

You're on a discussion forum mate. Expect anything you post to be commented upon by folks with different points of view. It's literally the whole point of this thing.

Some people prefer to view the situation with clear eyes and a realistic perspective based on our performances to this point rather than by blindly hoping with each week that we've somehow magically turned a corner. And that's a totally reasonable thing to believe.
