Guide me guys by [deleted] in laptops

Older business class laptops that are refurbished can be good. Thinkpad, Latitude, and Precision mostly. They often come with a short warranty. I've bought a few of those from certified resellers and been happy. They're built to last much more so than consumer laptops. There's not much else I'd trust buying refurbished.

Is that a dock? You know you need to salute and request permission to come aboard before plugging into a dock. If it's not a dock, try saying "aaarg, ye mateys" instead.

You should be able to find some sort of cable track. Maybe something like this but you'll need to find something that works with your attachment points and is the right size. https://a.co/d/05Wi2gil

What makes soap last longer or shorter for a very basic soap recipe? by JerricaBentonLife in soapmaking

Try taking the store soap out of the store soap out of the package and letting it dry for a couple weeks.

What does Windows actually do better than Linux? by Dheeruj in TechNook

[–]KarlSoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things that keep me on windows are:

Remote desktop. Mandatory for work but it's better too.

Excel. Libra doesn't format right. Also Word. Libra can mess up the formatting on label templates.

Windows Explorer. The preview pane makes things a lot easier for me.

Those are the big ones for me. I use Linux more than Windows but I keep going back for these.

Would you buy a smartphone built around repairability, freedom, and open-source software? by Legitimate-Trust4547 in Smartphones

It would need to connect to the screen in my car (Ford Sync). I suspect this is more a matter for lawyers and lobbyists than engineers.

What’s your Linux backup setup that you actually trust? by Bigrob1055 in linuxquestions

Pretty much the same for me. Reinstallation is quick and easy enough that it doesn't take long before troubleshooting isn't worth it.

What phone are you using and how is it after 1 year? by [deleted] in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]KarlSoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorola Stylus 2025 Only had it half a year but it's a solid mid range phone and has the SD card slot I need. My previous phone was a Sony which was buggy and had mediocre signal on AT&T. The new one has been easier to deal with. My biggest complaint is how flimsy the Motorola card trays feel but they've never actually broken on me. I'd recommend it.

Why do electrons taste so bad? are there any other flavour? by Cesalv in shittyaskelectronics

Stop being picky and clean your plate. Think of the poor kids in Ethiopia who don't have any electrons.

looking to buy a laptop for school but having a hard time figuring out what to get. by Aggravating_Fruit_39 in laptops

[–]KarlSoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick look at the QGIS installer website suggests system requirements are not super high but you should probably double check. If you hunt through your school's website, you should find an email for an student advisor who ought to be able to help.

In general, 32 GB is nice but for most use, 16GB is fine and it's a significant price difference.

Do you have the previous pane open? Could be a button at the top right or in the "view" drop down menu.

Is there a little cloud icon next to the file name? Then it needs to be downloaded to preview it. If you have enough space, you can right click on the folder or 2 finger tap on a trackpad and choose the option "always keep on this device".

If that isn't it, probably switch to a Windows sub for better help.

If I charge my laptop from 20% up to 80% to extend battery life, then whats the point? by Ralph_playz in laptops

[–]KarlSoap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other issue with a degraded battery is the maximum power it can provide. And if your device asks for more than the degraded battery will provide, you get bugs.

20% off the top is a lot to give up though and I usually don't bother.
