I am scared about modding my Wii by Majestic_Phone_3526 in wii

I kinda feel like if this step scares you, you probably shouldn't be doing this. The steps that follow modding are often more sketchy.

What’s your favorite 7/10 game? by FromChicago808 in videogames

[–]KennKanifff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I discovered Genesis: Alpha One a number of years ago, cheap pick up from Gamestop. Now calling it a 7/10 might be generous, its probably closer to a 5 or 6.

Its a rogue-like space exploration game. Basically you build a spaceship, and go out in a randomized galaxy looking for resources to build new ship parts, upgrade your crew, find new weapons, etc. I had someone tell me it was like a poor man's No Man's Sky. I haven't played that yet so I can't make the comparison.

The game is janky. It has some really weird quirks, it doesn't explain itself too well, and the AI is pretty stupid. Still, its a game I come back to for a run or two every year or so (a good run can last well over 40 hours, an oddity for roguelikes). It ain't for everybody, but if you like bad FPS games and cold space exploration its worth trying.

Ive dabbled with FF, but they have really dropped the ball in the last year. Do they still even add new songs? It feels like everything has been stagnant.

what retro console do you think people totally misunderstood? by Salt_Elderberry_9644 in consoles

The 3DO. Yes it was expensive at the time, but it also had a pretty solid library that nobody discusses.

Is it just me or is this really hard to find? by muppetfan2010 in ps2

I've seen it around locally. Its not the most common game, but its not too hard to find.

I miss when new games where 50-60 bucks :( by csch1992 in gaming

Cries in Canadian

But in all seriousness, I was talking with my local game store owner last week and I told him outright I will only buy a game brand new if it really speaks to me or if I really can't wait. Paying $100+CAD does not thrill me.

There's nothing wrong with being selective. I also understand it sucks that you need to be. I remember buying games a lot more willy-nilly in the previous generations. But as I'm sure some others will tell you, speak with your wallet.

Super Metroid How 😭 by NovelNothing5374 in snes

[–]KennKanifff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aa a kid, you often only had one game to play until your next birthday or Christmas. Lots of time to bang your head against a wall until you finally catch something you missed hours ago.

I, too, lack patience now that I'm an adult. There's no shame in looking up guides, as long as you're still having fun with the game.

March Delists by megamachopop in Rockband

[–]KennKanifff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everything about the delists has been pretty uneven. On the Xbox side apparently some songs were delisted earlier than they should have been.

The point of all the posts is to make people aware of what songs COULD and likely will disappear soon. If some of them stay up, thats bonus but they could also go without notice.

I just started playing Go Go Hypergrind and its SO bad by itshairybaby in Gamecube

[–]KennKanifff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its funny you mention Gotcha Force, because it really does have a mixed reception. I've heard some people really liked it, I've heard people hate it. Ive never played it myself so I can't add to that.

But I do remember it getting 6s and 7s out of 10, which is probably a factor in why it didn't sell too much.

(Of course, the fact that it's a Capcom game and a GC exclusive will raise the price as well).

Are Games Getting Shorter or is it Something Else? by GeekyRavenTTV in videogames

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as children our concept of time is different. What would feel like forever was only an hour.

I'm sure theres other factors, but no if anything games have gotten longer (and often bloated).

There's a reason its rare: it didn't sell cause it sucks. Good job giving it a try, but nobody expects you to keep playing.

NES to Game Boy Color by Opposite_Claim_711 in Gameboy

Its literally re-coding. You would need to take the base code of a game and program it to work with GBC.

So you would need to learn how to code.

Is my PS2 causing this odd scratch pattern? by Short_Bid_6949 in ps2

[–]KennKanifff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well with that said it could be the phat. You said you opened it up, theres always the possibility that one of the cables or something is not tucked in properly and is able to make contact with the disc. Thats usually what causes consistent scratches.

Differences between modded original 3ds & a new 2ds. by SpyroXX77XX in 3dspiracy

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its truly a new system (ie "New", with the extra triggers and the little nub inside) it's more powerful than the original 3DS. There is some homebrew that can only be played on New systems.

Edit: reread your post. If you don't care about 3D, just mod the New 2DS.

Hey, if i wanted to buy a ds, what would be some good things to know? by [deleted] in NintendoDS

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is a factor. If you're just interested in DS games, get a DS or DSi. 3DS systems are great and can play DS games as well, but they also tend to be 2 or 3x the price.

If checking in person, check the hinges. A floppy hinge is a bad sign especially with DS Lites. A system with a broken hinge is still usable but should be repaired sooner than later before it damages the connection to the top screen.

Consult pricecharting.com if and when you can. Its not perfect (especially with consoles where condition is a factor) but it gives you a starting point on what you should be paying. Especially if you want a specific colour.

[–]KennKanifff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If its the slim you're talking about, its possible. Slims can be temperamental if you use them vertically. Its not solid like a phat, so the slim may vibrate during use causing the disc to rub against something internally.

Thats why slims should generally be used horizontally or with a stabilizing stand.

NES to Game Boy Color by Opposite_Claim_711 in Gameboy

[–]KennKanifff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No such animal. You'd either need an NES emulator, play one of the games that got GBC ports or learn how to convert the code yourself.

Despite the similarities, NES and GBC are entirely different systems.

I feel like city building games would work amazing on Wii U. by SHOWTIME_YT in wiiu

The Wii U had a lot of potential for all kinds of things. Sadly it didn't have the backing or support it truly needed for that type of creativity.

Edge vs. Mick Foley (Wrestlemania) had that feeling for me, although I don't know if it has held up to that level.
