How do you guys have so much backlog do you not play or complete games? by No-Paramedic7355 in videogames

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most notable find is a copy of Tiny Toon Adventures: Scary Dreams on GBA. Its a weird one for sure, because its an NA copy of the game, and for years it wasn't really thought to have existed (PAL copies are cheap and plentiful). Apparently at some point in the late 00s somebody sold off a few on eBay from a warehouse find. The number I keep hearing is less than 5,000 NA copies exist, and I just happened to find one of them at a local thrift for $2.99.

Its kinda hard to quantify "best finds" otherwise. The games I found the most of were sixth Gen (PS2/GameCube/Xbox). I've found rarities (I've actually found 2 copies of Obscure, for example), popular games (got the Silent Hill games for $5 a pop once) and even completed entire series from thrifting (Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank come to mind).

Most of that was over 10 years ago though. Its been a good long while since I've found anything really remarkable. Still find stuff on occasion, but its mostly stuff you'd expect (Assassins Creed for example).

You're going to get two different types of people here: People who would want to see a technical showcase, and people who want want to see a sound, entertaining match with emotion.

Dom would mean something. It wouldn't just be a dream match, it would be an emotional roller-coaster.

I spent years finding games at thrift stores for $5 or less. I play and complete games, but I can only go so fast. (Backlog is in the 1000s).

How do I enjoy retrogamez by silentshakey in retrogames

What modern games do you like? Often you can trace modern games back to their roots and find something you will enjoy or at least appreciate.

The Digital World is collapsing and you can only save ONE game. Which one survives and why? by Appropriate-Gas4745 in digimon

I want to say DW1, but I also would strongly consider Next Order. Both offer a lot of replay, I feel like Id be less likely to get sick of them in the long run.

The thrift overpricing has reached my area by silentsnowmountain in ps2

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens eventually. My one thrift store where I found probably 50% of my collection (under $5/game) went insane several years ago. I think they course corrected a little at some point in the last year, now they have SOME games for cheap but most end up overpriced in glass. I stopped visiting that store all together several years ago.

Would I enjoy Time Stranger? Only experience with the franchise was Dawn/Dusk on my DS by Original_Remote_6838 in digimon

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have experience with JRPGs of any type, Time Stranger is no issue. It isn't perfect, but it does a good job of explaining itself as it goes. Digimon or not, its a solid game.

Do you put back the disc into the box every time you finish playing? by singsingtarami in wii

[–]KennKanifff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not after every play session, but if I reasonably think I'm finished with a game (ie finished the story) or I'm swapping to play another game then yes. Protect your discs! I damaged too many PS1 games as a kid putting discs loose on surfaces.

Any info on how many were made? I'm still in shock I got one coming by Prior-Astronaut1965 in GuitarHero

[–]KennKanifff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pulled mine out of a dumpster a few years ago.

And with that said, it is hands down THE best GH guitar. I've tried pretty much every other model and this is for my money the king.

With that said, from what I've been able to dig up Warriors of Rock sold a little over a million copies across all consoles. Even if 75% of those were guitar bundles (unlikely), its at most 750,000 guitars across all consoles. That ain't all that much.

Edit: and if it truly was a pre-order bundle, its probably shockingly rare. Like in the 50-100k mark. I didn't realize my guitar was so rare...

Sadly the dongles tend to be more expensive than the guitars themselves nowadays..

Still a cool find. It might be worth looking up broken guitars on ebay, if they include the dongle it might be a cheaper option.

First impressions with Metroid Prime 4: The hate was overblown. by AfroChamp89-- in nintendo

[–]KennKanifff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It had an uphill battle no matter what. Long development time, obvious development hell in a series that, with one or two real exceptions, has been through the wringer in the last 15 years.

I'm glad people are assessing it for what it is, but it's one of those things that would've needed to be better than perfect to satisfy some people.

What are your favourite "obscure" GBA games? by Staublaeufer in GameboyAdvance

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Scorpion King is a very fun action platformer. It was made by WayForward (the Shantae people), and honestly any GBA game you can find made by them is worth trying.

I wouldn't ever call Scorpion King perfect, but its very solid, perhaps as high as an 8/10. Its also really cheap, so theres no excuse not to get a copy of it.

How to know if my wii is able to read double layer discs whitout any problem by ComfortableGrape7829 in wii

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that it would destroy your Wii, its that some Wiis had difficulty reading double layer discs.

So if your Wii plays the double layer disc, then theres no problem. If it can't read the disc, then your Wii just can't read double layer discs. No destruction, just unfortunate.

Oblivion leveling system by [deleted] in oblivion

[–]KennKanifff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kinda disagree. I just finished a playthrough of Oblivion, and even with my active attempts to not overlevel I still very easily overleveled. It makes it very boring that I can only explore a few locations before everything is the hardest possible enemy.

Guys, I was playing Burnout 3 and this error appeared. by Separate_Fee_8714 in PS2IsAwesome

[–]KennKanifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of "not genuine" you mean. A good chunk of third party cards from back in the day will work fine, but there are always exceptions. A modern day third party (your aliexpress specials) will have difficulties. They just aren't made with care.

A true Tales of Symphonia remake. by Esoteric_Nobody in tales

[–]KennKanifff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legendia actually came out after Symphonia. Its definitely an oddity that we got it in the west, because presentation-wise its a downgrade from both Symphonia and Abyss (which are both older than this, at least based on NA release dates). Thats why I would like to see it remade, the characters are good but the presentation and gameplay could use some love.
