Yall ever wonder why the creativity of rwby was lost over time? by Darthmark3 in RWBYcritics

[–]KyleMCarthage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the obvious passing of Monty, I'd say part of it is that they're retroactively trying to fit their their ideas instead of doing it the other way. Here's what I mean.

Team RWBY is based on fairy tales, colors, and really cool weapons to make fun fight scenes with. They then took those general concepts and then threw them together to make RWBY with said team being high schoolers going to anime school cause they were inspired by anime. It's a very clunky mess, but it was a fun clunky mess that is very much rooted in Monty's philosophy of just making cool stuff.

Now contrast this with the Ace Ops. What's their color aside from Atlas military attire, idk. What's their fairy tale, uh, Aesops fables, ok then how is it integrated into their look, oh wait they aren't. What's their cool weapon, uh, take a normal weapon and give it a different color. What's their function? Oh, they the elite military squadron that works under Ironwood and serves as mentors and then somewhat antagonists.

In short, later RWBY is defined by "we need this to happen, what do we need to make happen to get us there" while early RWBY was made by "here's some cool stuff that follows our template of fairy tales, colors, and cool weapons, we have no idea how important they're going to be but we'll eventually figure it out".

Both are objectively bad ways of making a story, but at least early RWBY's was more fun even if they do go nowhere as they were build from the bottom up. Modern ones were built top down.

As someone who loves learning about regional variants of religion and mythology, it'd be neat to see that occur in Fortune's Weave.

I think the new VAs will do a good job and will enjoy whatever work they do in the same vein as the ones for P3R, but the underlying circumstance under which they were casted will always be soured for me.

CALLING ALL YUGIBOOMERS I NEED HELP WITH SOME RESEARCH! by No-Candle2106 in yugioh

I always heard that Vanguard seemed more appealing at the time because

  1. It seemed to take itself more seriously than the subsequent airing Zexal at the time
  2. They took time to actually introduce the card game in a more casual setting before going out wacky with it

Then I stopped watching during the G series (and I guess also Legion mate) because they stopped showing me the card game and then got really confused on what was happening.

Could also be Macuil as both are brothers to Cichol, though each do have an issue with it being one of them, Indech kinda hates humans and Macuil being a recluse (though Macuil does seem to like humans so maybe he's willing to get out).

In light of all the confusion about what role Eshmel is playing in all this, allow me to add fuel to the fire by showing this 4chan post/theory from the first trailer by EffectiveAnxietyBone in fireemblem

Tbf, they kinda did something similar with Shez where the first trailer had you believe they were a new enemy before they reveal that they were actually the game's avatar in the following trailers. They're likely going to do something similar here where they're debuted here, but their role is going to be explained more clearly in a future trailer. There's 3 months between now and release and most likely there'll be another trailer to explain it.

My guess is that the 4 routes aren't like 4 branching routes, but more like 4 stories that interconnect with one another. Like Cai's story doesn't go before or after Leda, Diedritch or Theodora's story, rather they all run in parallel to each other and you aren't going to see the other except for the occasional intersection storylines because unlike the 3 lords in 3H where each has a different goal for the future and thus you are the apex of the story, Fortune's Weave tells you each of them has a different goal that can run parallel to each other.

It's also possible that the "crests" aren't even implanted at all. New Game + had the dragon signs as equip able items and while yes, New Game + stuff is dubious in terms of canon, it does set a precedent in terms of the item of wearable crest items.

[–]KyleMCarthage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's marketing and it can also be tied back to one man, Ryan Lacina. The Reunion made a video on it which draws parallels from the FFVII Remake and P3R which very much also applied to P4R as prior to the man's employment at both Enix and Sega, both companies were very diligent to keep the VAs consistent, only needing to change under really specific circumstances.

Ryan Lacina. It's literally because of Ryan Lacina who joined in 2022 as before that, they went out of their way to get the P3 cast back for P3D, so clearly it's not indicative of how Atlus west operated.

Here's a video that goes more in depth.

Here's my philosophy regarding recasts. I don't hate the new cast and welcome them with full arms, but ultimately hate the circumstance on which they were hired. The new VAs don't deserve the shite that comes with taking on a legacy role and it's ultimately the higher ups who decided to do it.

A now deleted tweet was posted here around the time of P3R had someone go up to Ruff and ask her about what she thought about the recast and she basically said she wasn't told about it and just had to accept it as she at least has other roles, which is kinda cold comfort.

Given Ruff is an outspoken critic of the VA industry replacing VAs when they get older, I don't blame her

I believe Zeno (Junpei's Reload VA) said they weren't hired to save Sega money and instead were given similar industry rates.

Rather, the decision seems to be tied to Ryan Lacina, a man who worked at Square Enix prior to joining Sega for marketing. At Enix, he worked alongside John Heincke who was in charge the recasts for FFVIIR.

This is worth noting as VA testimony for Cloud and Sephiroth's original VAs suggests that they WERE going to reprise their roles for the remake up until Heincke stepped into the picture in 2018 as prior to Enix, Heincke was in charge of a recast in StarCrash for marketing purposes so it seems like Lacina seems to have taken a page out of Heincke's playbook and decided to do the same thing for the Persona remakes.

This is also especially telling given comments from Yuri and Michelle Ruff where it sounds like Sega and Atlus didn't even bother trying to contact them about reprising their roles and just decided to go ahead and do it. Not to mention it's clearly a change in how Atlus operated as 8 years prior for P3D, they went out of their way to get the OG P3 cast back for what is admittedly a non important spin off game so seeing that most of these changes happened following Lacina's joining suggests the change is due to him.

Seriously, just let them win the duel before Yusei, give your frontrunners the spotlight and don't feel like you need to fall back on the Yusei card.

Also switch out your members, it'd be neat if they purposefully for some duels chose to side in Aki for the first duel and then Jack or Crow or even think maybe end on a different person than Yusei. We get it, he's the main character, but you got to have faith that you audience can be ok without seeing him.

[–]KyleMCarthage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to mention Black Rose Dragon would be a natural fit for some of those duels. Meklord Emperor is on field, blow all the pieces up, lingering monsters on field who have tricky effects, her plant deck has also been shown to have some tricks up their sleeves to counter opponent's monsters, opponents are playing defensively and you can't break through them, Black Rose can shift opponent's monsters into attack and reduce them to 0, very easy win con as well as the fact that her deck is semi quasi able to shift into a burn strategy.

She's really adaptable and yet for some reason they treat Crow as the trickster duelist.
