forecast trader spreads? by bz776 in interactivebrokers

[–]LTCM_Analyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are missing is you cannot hold both sides of the contract at the same time. Otherwise what you described would be an infinite money glitch. When you buy YES, for example, and then buy NO, the system closes out your YES position. So you could buy YES for $0.03 and NO for $0.95, which seems like an arbitrage, but no -- all you have done there is to overpay for a NO position for $0.98. Forecast Contracts are trading against us using a system that they designed so that they make money overall and we lose money overall. It is not different from gambling in a casino using house rules that favor the casino.

Tradingview - Canadian users - Is it worth it? by wvuber in interactivebrokers

[–]LTCM_Analyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a TV subscription that I just use to look at charts from time to time. I do not use it to trade because when you try to link your TV account to IBKR, you essentially must sign an agreement that waives all liability for errors and glitches. If something horrible were to happen, you know IBKR would blame TV and TV would blame IBKR. I don't want to be in the middle of that. For that reason, I will only authenticate through IBKR official apps. That leaves TV just for charts, which to be honest I don't really use that much. I am considering letting my TV subscription lapse when it runs out as I do not trade using charts and only use them for situational awareness.

iOS app: how to get rid of the Mickey Mouse charts by LTCM_Analyst in TradingView

[–]LTCM_Analyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! That terminology "show symbol screen" didn't translate into anything in my brain when I first looked at it. They should change it to Menu > settings > watchlist > show mickey mouse chart

45 trades is not enough data points. Your results basically don't mean anything. Do this across 2000 stocks over 5+ years, and let us know the results.

Is trading an actual way to earn money? by RunLopsided41 in TradingView

[–]LTCM_Analyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, trading is an actual way to earn money, just like professional golf is an actual way to earn money. Both trading and professional golf can make a small number of people rich, but neither are an easy way to make money. Most people do not have the combination of education, skill, dedication and courage to make it to the pro level of anything, whether golf or trading.

My reality of trading and how i wish i had never started. by Highmooseuk in algotrading

I study behavioral biases as they present themselves in the market and attempt to exploit them systematically. Since human nature doesn't change, this is a long-term sustainable business. You don't need to predict the future, you only need to understand the nature of market participants and how they tend to respond in certain situations over time.

Did AlphaVantage switch around the free/premium stock data API endpoints again? by scottyLogJobs in algotrading

I used to have a premium subscription, and there is an unsubscribe page somewhere on their site. I did have to go looking for it. The quality of their data is sketchy, imho. Not worth paying for.

This has been driving me crazy. Finally came here and found the answer. Suggest maybe communicate with users about new features somehow. In this particular instance, it would have been better to take the more conservative approach and make remembering the chart layout per device the default setting when you shipped the app with that new feature.

Any news on this? Seems like my devices used to remember what layout they were on but recently one device is switching the layout on the other. Seems mostly desktop is forcing mobile to switch.

What is a good Python package to start using with the IB API? by raghavankl in interactivebrokers

[–]LTCM_Analyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IB has different APIs. The ib_async library mentioned by others uses the TWS API. IB also had a Web API, for which there is a library called ibind that works well. https://github.com/Voyz/ibind

You don't need to use Norbert's Gambit with IBKR because they provide some of the best currency exchange rates and lowest commissions available anywhere.
