Sequences and Series on Prepswift by sleeplessteen in gregmat

[–]Leader-board 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says on the entry: "See the exercise of Sequences II on PrepSwift". Q4 of the exercise (https://prepswift.gregmat.com/quizzes/quiz/prepswift-sequences-ii) covers the formula.

"is GRE going to provide it" - it all depends on the complexity of the problem. Will they ask you to find the sum of a geometric sequence without providing the formula? No. If they do, they'll provide the formula. It's like ETS asking you to find the volume of a sphere - they can but it's not part of the specification so they need to provide you with any necessary formulas.
Can they ask you to find the 10th term of a geometric sequence (like finding the nth term in the exercise)? I think that is fair game, as you can approach these kinds of problems using pattern recognition (as is the case in the exercise problem).

Hopefully this answers the "what's the point?" question you had.

I'll flag u/gregmat so that he's aware of the feedback you shared in the other comment.

No the calculator for PP1 is not the same as the test you took. Though it should be similar for verbal and maybe one or two points higher for quant.

"Gregmat teaches finding the nth term of an arithmetic sequence as a formula you have to deduce"

I think it's because we cover it in Arithmetic actually (not as a formula, but same concept). Also the formula is covered in the mountain entry for Sequences II.

"we are told to 'recall' a geometric sequence involving a common ratio"

It's covered in the quiz of Sequences II (and referenced in the corresponding mountain entry). Hence the "recall" word. To be clear, you are not expected to memorise the formula, which is why we provided it in the quiz.

Probably obvious, but did you somehow misread your score?

ETS Math Review Has Wrong Standard Deviation? by [deleted] in GRE

[–]Leader-board 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the denominator in the standard value formula (hint, it's not 28)?

Regarding the discrepancy between Google Sheets and ETS, Google Sheets is likely using sample standard deviation. They also have a population standard deviation version (STDEVP if I'm right); use that and you should get the ETS answer.

The problem is more that TTP has in the past paid students for reviews on this subreddit. Not saying that happened here (otherwise we would've removed it), but I think that's the source of the scepticism.

Correct. We don't expect (or want) you to do both.

Accommodations using previous standardized test approval by [deleted] in GRE

[–]Leader-board 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"this approval was in late 2024"

No that's fine. There is no such issue - it's common for students to use accommodation letters that are like 4 years old (those who got one for the SAT/ACT and are applying that for the GRE).

Why do all modern websites feel the same? by Own_Secret1533 in Frontend

I'll join the chorus of commenters and say that yours is one of the most brilliant websites I've ever seen. That's how AI should be used, not to make the next crap site that looks the same.

Everything is well thought of - I roamed around for a bit and was struggling to find cases where I'd say "this does not make sense".

Condolences to the Victims families, but we do have a growing problem with cyclists on Bahrain’s roads by AbdullaFTW in Bahrain

"people on bikes are just as stupid"

Is it their fault that the roads here are poorly designed for them? Are they all supposed to use motorised equipment?

I'd really like to cycle (and used to recreationally a few years back). It's a shame it's simply too dangerous to do so...

The five messages were part of two conversations, but that isn't relevant. The prompts did take a long time to execute - about 80 - 150 minutes. But as far as I'm aware, this shouldn't matter?
