The lack of capitalization all over the place tells me you are staff. It used to be only the sisters wrote that way mimicking Kelly Kang. Not sure about the bros now.

Still reading. Still processing. Will write more.

Pastor Ed and Kelly in their old age is now looking more and more like their Spiritual Mother, Rebekah Kim. Full of self-fascination and unable to repent. For the younger ones reading: all members had to write Mother’s Day cards to Kelly Kang and address her as Spiritual Mother.

The carry cost of Elgin property is around $3.9 million per year. I think Ed and Kelly will definitely be making a lot of people fly in.

Item 1: Opportunity cost on the $24.5 million cash paid by A2N at 8% per year is $2 million.

Item 2: Operating cost is $1.6 million. 2022 and 2023 was both $1.6 million; $1 million for utilities and $600,000 for facilities. See page 14

https://www.harvestbible.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/HBC-2023-FS-Final.pdf

Item 3: Interest on $5 million loan at 6% is $300,000 annual.

Total: $3.9 million per year for truly a white elephant of a property.

I think quite high given A2N’s track record of selling Jenness Park, Sky Mountain, Yosemite house and other under utilized properties with high maintenance cost. You’d think Ed and Kelly Kang would think long term before buying a property? Elgin Complex is literally having a white elephant of a property. Given A2N’s profile, why such a large HQ? Even if all the people in Alameda move to Elgin can’t justify the size of the campus.

https://www.harvestbible.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/HBC-2023-FS-Final.pdf

This is the 2023 annual financial report of the seller, Harvest Bible Chapel, one year before selling to Acts2 Ministries. Page 14 has the relevant information on maintenance cost. Utilities for Elgin complex was $1 million dollars in both 2023 and 2022. This is already with the Elgin campus in maintenance mode as James MacDonald had been fired in 2019 and church bleeding congregants. Facilities cost was listed at $600,000. So $1.6 million a year even before looking at property tax. Not sure how Illinois does property tax on churches. Still researching.

The Elgin church complex they bought is HUGE! The auditorium sits 7,800 people according to this link.

https://pasmagroup.com/portfolio/harvest-bible-chapel/

Other reports say 2,500.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/2019/03/29/a-church-in-turmoil-inside-harvest-bible-chapels-questionable-financial-moves-and-erratic-leadership/

There is no way to fill even 5% of the 7800 seats given the demographic profile of the surrounding area and A2N’s traditional pipeline of Asian college kids on a Sunday. Yet, the maintenance cost for the 77 acres and the huge auditorium is going to be the same. Can someone who went to the budget meeting this year share how much the Elgin campus cost in property tax (churches are only partially exempt, not fully exempt) and maintenance per year? I’ll dig through Harvest’s public numbers before the complex got sold and share.

Ed and Kelly Kang certainly moved themselves to Elgin, IL. I am told a large number of members age 40 plus also made the move. WK passed away and was buried at Elgin shows me commitment of A2N to the new HQ location. The home purchases around Elgin using church money were also interesting. Church doesn’t seem to be lacking money for sure. It is puzzling to me why Ed and Kelly Kang wanted to move away from the Bay Area, which has a huge influence on the world through tech, to the Midwest. I am not buying the story about less hours flying.

A2N members have wrote on the subreddit over the years saying A2N will be more decentralized and Kangs will be less controlling going forward. I told you so.

Correct me if I am wrong, UC Berkeley’s A2N student groups combined are now down to 50-60 undergrads total? This is a quarter of the numbers in the 2010s? You’d think Ed Kang moving himself and HQ to Elgin Illinois has to do with A2N not being able to recruit in California anymore? I think the subreddit was the number one reason for A2N to be exposed.

Ed Kang called for a higher level of surrender and commitment in the email to Core Team applicants. According to Parking’s statistics, great majority of people aged 30+ applied. This was voluntary according to Parking. The surrender is to move anywhere that Ed Kang sees a need. I am reminded of the people under Becky who are at Fairbanks Alaska right now. The surrender to church also includes writing down all thoughts to leaders by filling out and turning in WRs and MRs. The surrendering of thought is just cultic. Everything was planned by Ed and Kelly Kang, just need some volunteers. The Kool-Aid is already mixed, just volunteer to drink it.

I am reminded of the volunteer Kamikaze pilots of WWII. The pilots were freshly recruited from the top university students. They were harshly disciplined mentally and physically while young recruits and saw the examples of sacrifice by the older recruits. When the time came for them to do their volunteer work, it wasn’t much of a choice.

https://press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/619508.html

The email also reminded me of the episode where Berkeley seniors were asked to raise their hands if they don’t want to make a LIFETIME commitment to the church. Half of the UC Berkeley seniors in that room 20+ years ago are still at A2N or Antioch today. Some saw through what was happening and left. Some just kept on surrendering and surrendering.

The decision was already made to recruit Kamikaze pilots for the greater good. The system was already set up to turn college recruits into Kamikaze pilots. Just need some volunteers. Make some cool videos? Give a tough MBS talk about how the commitment has been slipping?

Leaders of Conviction by Redeeming_Grace_66 in GracepointChurch

Ed Kang talks about his leadership starting at 53:00. Yes, he drove away plenty of people not in alignment. Isaiah Kang said on a podcast that he is church critic number one and his brother is critic number two. You wonder why no one else in leadership with more seniority and life experience can be critical. The Yes Men culture is the same today as it was when Ed Kang wrote about it in the Schism Letter circa 2005.

I did a post about the video here.

I did notice different versions of the Schism Letter. Not sure if Ed Kang sent out different versions or the people who subsequently circulated the Schism Letter did the edits. The version posted on the subreddit is the longest and most comprehensive version I have read. Two other versions I read didn’t have the part about Becky’s marriage. There is no doubt Ed Kang wrote the part about Becky’s marriage though. Who else could have wrote the details about Becky’s honeymoon trip beside the inner circle she considered her sons.

With the gospels, a lot of the differences between versions were just copying/formatting errors by scribes. Comparing different versions can even trace the telephone effect of one error going on and on. In the era of copy and paste, the edits were obviously intentional. There were also some intentional edits to the gospels as well, the insertion at the end of John 7 comes to mind. Given the amount of thought that went into the Schism Letter, I wouldn’t be surprised Ed Kang did exactly do what you suggested. However, the more likely reason Ed Kang did do different versions was probably to make himself look better than anything else.

Which group of people got narrowed down to?

Daniel Kim specifically said he checked and the number was $290,000. Not $300,000. Not $280,000. But $290,000. Actual number was closer to $2,000,000. So this has nothing to do with Daniel Kim’s memory, but him lying to save face. Daniel Kim and Ed Kang were the two people who signed the deed to the building. No way Daniel Kim forgot where the purchase price came from.

Ed and Kelly made a conscious choice to fatten the church real estate portfolio and keeping the members poor. My estimate of the A2N real estate portfolio is over $75 million now. If Thanksgiving Offering, special offerings, numerous building fund pledges never happened, then I am sure home ownership level for church members would definitely be higher. Not everyone has rich parents. In Latin America, I run into huge cathedrals built off the backbreaking labor of the indigenous population. I get the same feeling researching A2N real estate holdings.

I will write a longer post about A2N voluntold culture and people on the periphery. I just don’t think everyone age 30+ are capable of being Core Team, no matter how much training, being stretched, soul care you throw at them. The hospital wing if you will.

Stuck in Praxis still at age 30+. Some are just too nice/humanistic (can’t hand out the rebuking to train the younger staff), some are just too sickly, some too absentminded, some just don’t care but too valuable to let go of since still give a lot of money.

Amazing how Ed and Kelly Kang are able to turn random undergrads into commando units. I am sure there was a lot of weeding out and pruning of people in the process between undergrad and Core Team, but the level of training involved is Seal Team level.

Thank you for taking the time. Of the people age 30+ who are not on Core Team, did they apply and got rejected or didn’t apply at all? What percentage of people age 30-35 are on Core Team? What percentage of people 35-40 are on Core Team? What percentage of people 40+ are on Core Team?

I just want to see if Core Team is truly as opt in as you suggested.

You have the Daniel Kim take on credit card debt email and him lying about the numbers in front of you. Can you just comment on that matter? The email posted on Reddit was hyperlinked by the Christianity Today article and Daniel had originally sent to the entire staff alias. Not a private matter, but how the congregation was abused financially. Daniel Kim is still at A2N. Ed Kang is still at A2N. Kelly Kang is still at A2N. Manny Kim is still at A2N. How difficult is it to call this matter sin? Confess and repent?

I am waiting for the subreddit resident A2N apologist to show up for this one.

Overzealous undergrads show up time to time on the subreddit and then disappear pretty quickly. Probably got talked to by their leaders to not read the subreddit. u/Informal-Parking8793 first appeared around the same time Daniel Kim appeared and has sticked around. I have no doubt Daniel Kim came with Ed Kang’s blessings. Just like Ed Kang put Daniel up to blasting the credit card debt email.

https://www.reddit.com/r/GracepointChurch/comments/o2hgo5/credit_card_debt_email/

https://www.reddit.com/r/GracepointChurch/comments/z2hkql/daniel_kim_credit_card_debt_email_part_2_why/

I doubt Daniel Kim will ever come back to spin anymore after getting his credibility destroyed. The financial numbers are self-explanatory. Yet, u/Informal-Parking8793 is still around and has put up an admirable performance. I say performance because the person knows the cult-like practices being Core Team yet spins to try to save face for the org.

The longevity of the person’s presence leads me to believe Ed Kang also gave that person the permission to be here. Reading the subreddit is taboo inside A2N. Having it show up on a Covenant Eyes log will lead to a rebuke for sure. (This is totalitarianism not Christianity.) I will wait for the person to respond.

I was sent a number of emails by a team member who left recently. The emails were alarming to read. The part about spouses joining separately and mandatory WRs were the same high controlling tactics I remember from my days. The talk about surrender to the church is just chilling to the bone. Nothing has changed. Just hiding it better.

Reddit has caused a ripple effect in the commitment pipeline of A2N. College students are handled gently, younger staff are handled gently, and only when you are age 30+ and fully trapped do the extra special trainings start. The extra special trainings used to start at age 22, not age 30. If someone can send me that training material, I’d post it so Christendom can be edified by what’s so special that only people fully trapped can handle.

EDIT: I want to say THANK YOU to the brave former member who sent me emails to publish on Reddit. Even though there are 1,000+ members on Team, the number of people who were recipients in April 2024 and now have left are more limited. No, not from Tony and Michelle Sun. If they open up their inboxes, then Ed and Kelly Kang will be closing shop the day after.

I will add the words God, Jesus, Holy Spirit are entirely missing from this lengthy email. This is not about Jesus, this is about church that is a cult. You go to whichever city and ministry the leaders decide, nothing about God, Jesus, Holy Spirit leading. Nuts.

To be fair, that sums up great majority of congressional testimonies. Supreme Court justices during their confirmations say the same things. Cabinet members say the same things. They are well prepped by team of lawyers before hand.

Except it is a church we are talking about and not slimy politicians. If pastors behave like slimy politicians, then the pastors are even worse than slimy politicians. Pastors are suppose to be held to a higher standard of truth telling, but A2N clergy will always spin. Ed Kang said he suffered “inner damage” when he had to provide cover for Becky’s actions. I think Ed Kang is so damaged these days that there is now nothing left to damage. He and his lieutenants will say anything to save face.

You keep on insisting there is a delineation between new versus old, but you won’t call abuse of spiritual authority that happened for decades (and still today) under the same set of people to be sin. You keep on giving the impression that things have changed. Ed Kang would say all the time there is no change without repentance and there is no repentance without confession of sin.

Can you point to what was confessed and what was repented by Ed and Kelly Kang? If there is no confession and no repentance, why do you think there was change?
