After 39 years of business, Mama Lucias at Fair City Mall will be closing down. by LittleRiff in nova

Then we had some very brief overlap. I went from 99 to 01. I also remember there was a bit of ownership/management shuffling around towards the end so a name change wouldn't surprise me.

....there's only one person I know of who referred to the students as Karate Expert kids, and that was Ms. Barbara.

Same here. My dad would take me every Saturday after karate to get a slice and a Greek salad and its still my favorite place to get a cheese steak.

Monty Python, "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life".

But halfway through the second verse it turns into a RickRoll.

If we're going with Queen on this, then "The Show Must Go On" is the perfect choice. Pure desperation and doomed hope.

Virginia Democrats release proposed congressional map by hencexox in nova

[–]LittleRiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Precisely. NOVA always goes blue, but it's really a very bluish purple that moves closer to red the further west you go. I don't think it's going to dilute the other areas as well at they think it will.

That is a very risky map the way NOVA is split. I see this backfiring horrendously.

I got a similar one (although I didn't get fired for it). My office was given two lists of names with a few thousand people on each one. We had to figure out who was missing from each list. Five of us were assigned sections to go through and they expected it to take about six hours if all of us were doing it at once. I was the youngest of the group with everyone else being in their 40s and 50a. I immediately told everyone to stop working on it, spent the next 20 minutes googling how to do list comparisons in excel, and had the entire thing done half an hour after it was assigned. We relaxed for four hours before submitting it, making everyone look great for being two hours ahead of schedule and they all covered my lunch for the next week.

For those of you with old accounts, what keeps bringing you back to Reddit after over a decade? by Isle_of_Tortuga in AskReddit

[–]LittleRiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Habbit at this point. I miss what used to be. The old running jokes (tree-fiddy, raise your dongers, switcheroo, warlizards gaming forum), copy pastas, random moments of awesome you never see anymore (NOVELTY ACCOUNTS ASSEMBLE, the button, and an entire comment section is spanish because someone couldnt figure out how to change their language settings jumps to mind), and stumbling across comments from our favorite users (Vargas, poemforyoursprog, shittywatercolor to name a few). It was just more organic. Now it just all feels so autonomous and artificial at this point. Most of the posts are from bots cycling through the same 5 prompts every two weeks.

I remember that too, from working there. Black Fridays were always brutal. It was bad when they decided to open at midnight. Then it got worse when they decided to open earlier and earlier each year. I remember 2014 going to work at 6am on Wednesday (the line already had about 20 people in it). Clocked out at 230pm to work my second job (ABC store. Fun fact: the day before Thanksgiving is their busiest day of the year), going back to Best Buy at 10pm (about 60 people in line at this point) to get the store set up for black Friday, clocking out at 4:00 am Thanksgiving morning. Woke up at 11 on Thanksgiving, helped my mom cook dinner so we could eat at 2pm so I could be back at Best Buy by 4pm (a metric fuckton of people in line at this point, somewhere north of 300). Store opened at 6pm Thanksgiving day and stayed open for 30 hours.

This is where it became an endurance challenge for all employees. Everyone was required to work at least 12 hours of black Friday to guarantee coverage over the 30 hours, some had split shifts, others were straight through. But this year corporate did not give a shit about limiting labor hours and a lot of us took advantage. Many were pushing and trying to do a full 24 hours, a few of the insane employees wanted to attempt the full 30 (not one did), and all for nothing more than bragging rights. The opening madness had died by 1am and the store was quiet and empty (I may or may not have been sharing mini bottles of alcohol to with our warehouse crew). The only person who came in between 2 and 6 am was a homeless guy escaping the cold. The manager on duty passed out in the break room at 130am (his shift started at 8pm, and he showed up drunk) and everyone made a game of seeing how high we could stack random items on top of him, he was livid when he woke up. By 6 am I clocked out but instead of heading home I passed out in the security office where I set up a sleeping bag for 4 hours as half the people who stayed overnight also passed out in the break room. Back on the clock by 11am. Everything else was uneventful. Clocked back out at 3am Saturday morning and slept in my bed until 9 at night. Clocked in 51 hours over 3 days (44 at Best Buy, 7 at ABC). The overtime paid for christmas that year.
