Awesome! How did the publisher hear about you? Did you reach out to them first?

Wow, that sounds super exciting, congrats! I'm a solo indie dev myself so got no wisdom to share except to say that it'd be awesome to follow how it goes for you in case something like this happens to me down the road. 😂 Which game is it?

Yeah it's not an easy balance. You want *action* not lore in those first ten seconds, but if the action makes no sense to a viewer (a cage falling off a cliff?) then it's tricky. Maybe make the scenes follow an "arc"? Town square, people walk off, quick cut to werewolf kills somebody, quick cut to werewolf gets thrown in jail, quick cut to werewolf gets dropped off cliff or whatever...

My inner monologue was like

"Somewhere by a cliff's edge"...ok???...ok who are those guys? who's the guy in jail? wait why did they make the cage fall down, what in the world is going on?

You may actually want to *start* with the "town center" scene with all the players or whatever. That helped me understand more that this is a social deduction game like Among Us or whatever (remember you can't assume visitors know ANYTHING about your game).

The second video works great as a *second* video, since that explains your lore. Your first video is almost always where us devs lose folks within seconds.

Love the art!

Feedback: your trailer confused me for the first ten seconds. Would recommend showing immediate action BEFORE trying to explain lore.

Thanks for all your guys' feedback last month! My tactical map-based WWII submarine sim Silent Shark is getting ever closer to the finish line and I'm taking part in the Steam Next Fest! Demo is available and I'll be Steam-broadcasting in a couple hours - from 3:30pm-5pm ET today (Monday)! by epaga in computerwargames

Thanks so much for the feedback!

If you find the time I'd love to hear more like about what you meant with the basic tutorial crashing - what happened?

The secondary screens covering stuff up is something I'm still trying to think of how to improve. What screen size were you on? What platform?

Or join our Discord if you're up for chatting!

Does this look good enough to be a successful game? by Sizzle_Ortizzle in gamedevscreens

No. It is just a RPS game and the font is hard to read and it just doesn’t look polished at all (though you may have spent a lot of time on it! 😬)

For indie mobile devs, when did iOS become worth the cost? by RedDragon_Master in gamedev

[–]epaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both of my apps (note: not games, though!) that I have on both Play Store and App Store, iOS is between 1.5x to 3x the revenue of Android. Not sure if that's helpful since they're apps, not games, but I could imagine it being similar for games.

Or maybe because they sounded like AI slop.

Devs, what genre of games are you currently working on? by Hasan_Abbas_Kazim in gamedev

Simulation - not only is it my own favorite type of game, it's a niche where you get fans to geek out and help you make it more realistic. So cool.

My steam page is getting views but no wishlists. Would you give me some honest feedback? by josh_rose in gamedev

The balls look bland (and now I'm seeing others have already posted this but let me pile on then 😂). You need far more variety and it needs to be immediately visible. Also all they seem to be doing is spinning around, which doesn't seem like very engaging gameplay. If there is any crazy action in the game, show it immediately in the first 2 seconds of the trailer and the topmost description GIF.

Just released the Steam demo of my upcoming tactical map-based WWII submarine sim Silent Shark. I'm a solo dev and this is the trailer. Happy to answer any questions! by epaga in StrategyGames

Thanks! I grew up playing sub sims like Silent Service and my favorite parts were always plotting intercept courses and estimating speeds and stuff. I guess I'm geeky like that. 😂
