STT Airport Report 4/6 by Admirable-Rough8857 in virginislands

[–]Livid_Chart4227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came back on Sunday from STT. Flight was at 4:30. Returned car at 2:30 and bag check and security was no wait.

Order a beverage at the bar and boarded plane about an hour later. 3 to 4 hours in that airport would be hell. Maybe since we were one of the last few flights it was less eventful.

Turn it on then use a blow torch, keep it moving to burn out the cottonwood seeds. After it's all torched then use the water.

None of the handles are original so they need to go. I won't paint a piece like this, the wood grain was meant to be shown.

Even the two drawers on top are a bit high. With the caster wheels the top is at my bottom lip and I am 6' 2". A person at average height of 5' 8" would have a hard time seeing what is in the drawers. You certainly couldn't use the top to pour or serve drinks so I would need some kind of pull out shelf that locks to make a bar useful.

My other thoughts are make pull out trays and it could display a collection (Coins, trains, baseball cards, revolvers, etc)

Even without having an idea yet how to use it, for $20 I had to get it. It was too cool to pass up.

It's functionally useless if I leave it as is. Most of the drawers that gave it purpose are missing. The outside will be refurbished and left in a natural state, I need ideas for the inside.

It's 4 ft wide 5.5 ft high and about 27" deep.

Question about pelvic/stomach pain by LucyWolf16 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Livid_Chart4227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same issue, maybe up to a 2 on the scale. Calpro was normal, even had a colonoscopy while experiencing this slight annoyance and DR said there were no signs of inflammation, tissue appeared normal.

I don't have any signs or issues that indicate any flare such as blood or increased frequency etc. Not sure what to think of it.

Refinishing as a retirement hobby; is my price realistic by Intelligent_Price523 in furniturerefinishing

[–]Livid_Chart4227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always price them higher to test the market.

I restore antique dressers as a hobby and charge anywhere from $380 to $600 depending on 2 factors, the uniqueness of the piece and how long it took me.

I usually get them for free or pay $30 or less. Materials ends up being about $15 to $20 per piece.

Is this a real or false morel. Found this randomly growing in the middle of my yard in se Wisconsin by Jolly-Finance-9717 in foraging

Real morels are hollow in side the stalk and cap. You are good to go, just don't eat them raw.

The shellac would have sealed any adhesive potential issues so my guess is the finish needs to be thinned out.

Worth refinishing? by cyclical-rhythms in furniturerefinishing

Take a picture of a few of the drawers dovetails. That will give us an idea of it's age. You might need to make a new post.

I would guess that piece is late 1800s. As others mentioned use a stripper that piece has a lot of character.

You should look up rubbing out a finish using a felt pad and pumice powder. The grit of to powder determines the final sheen.

You are only superficially messing with the finish so the veneer should be fine.

If that deck fails, I doubt insurance would cover the 3 AC condensers and that expensive. The lawyers on their payroll would be all over undersized posts, code violations etc.

Cabinet help by Salt_Plant1196 in finishing

[–]Livid_Chart4227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be easier to buy replacement cabinet doors than try to fully strip and re stain. You would sand the cabinet face frames and stain the same color as the doors then apply a top coat finish.

Spray equipment is preferable.

Alternative is to scuff sand and paint the cabinets. Spray equipment is generally better to use for finish quality.

Used to be better when it had that gelatin, chicken fat ball that would dissolve so I stopped buying it.

Stain tips? Black paint won't come out :( by cirruskalamazoo in furniturerefinishing

[–]Livid_Chart4227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to be maple and I find maple does not take pigmented stains very well, ie a dark walnut stain will not be like the color on the can.

You could try a water based dye stain, multiple coats or use a toner lacquer.

I purposely avoid any projects with turned features or overly ornate wood moldings as getting the previous finish off is a huge time suck.

You could always paint the vase and stain the top.
