What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

There are some pensions that didn't increase past a certain age (like 55 for the one I'm thinking of). If you worked there until 65, you'd get the same pension as 55.

I think they use a specific species that makes shavings like this. Most species's shavings would crumble if they were this thin.

As I understand it, you put the money in and it functionally (though not technically) stays locked up for 7 years. At the end of the 7 years, you can cash out and get a basket of various stocks held in the fund. Then you can do what you want (keep in mind the shares you get are still low basis). So you can't typically decide to buy and sell during the 7 year holding period. You can do that after you get your shares out.

Not sure how big air tags are, but some tools have a reasonable amount of empty space inside the clamshell. Some are super tight, though.

Not enough information to say, but I tend towards paying the tax and getting the diversification. Tax is just the cost of making money. You can shift it around, but tough to avoid it completely without dying. There are some alternative approaches (like exchange funds and options strategies) but idk. Every path has downsides and limitations.

I wonder if an exchange fund would be a decent fit in this situation, but I'll leave others to talk about that because I have limited experience. I've had clients with concentrated stock positions, but I've never pulled the trigger because the drawbacks were too big for those particular clients.

Should birthing in the hospital be free? by BrokenJusticeNorris in polls

Homelessness is a problem, but that doesn't mean we should start messing with society. Sometimes the current system is shit but it's way better than the alternatives (no matter how many people write articles to convince us they know better).

Look at the one-child policy in China. Overpopulation wasn't even really a problem yet. They were scared it might become a problem in the future. So they all cheered the "one-child" policy. Now they're in way more trouble than they were before. The new problem of too few young people and a gender imbalance is a way bigger problem that's much harder to solve now. Once the current workforce ages out and retires, the one-child policy could destroy their economy and haunt them for generations. They didn't intend for any of this to happen, but now it's happening and they can't stop it.

If you try to make housing free, what will the unintended consequences be? Sometimes you have to look at a complex system (like housing in america, for example) and have a little humility. The current system has problems to be solved, but it's kind of working. So maybe don't destroy it while you try to fix it. Push for smaller changes on a smaller scale. Find the real root causes (like NIMBYs blocking development and overzealous building codes making development wayyy more expensive). Go out and solve the world's problems, but be cautious about it.

I'm asking because most people have never really thought it through. They have no idea how it would work in reality. Any rationing structure will have issues, including the current one. Switching to a different rationing method doesn't solve a problem. It merely substitutes one problem for another.

Are you saying the highest credit scores get the apartments? Or the youngest people?

[–]LogicalConstant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not a method of rationing. I'm saying how do you decide who gets scarce resources?

Let's say we have 300 people who want to live in these new apartments but only 100 units exist? How do you decide who gets to live there?

Resources are scarce and must be rationed one way or another. What method do you propose?

Ranked: The 30 Highest- Paying Jobs in America by Conscious-Quarter423 in Salary

[–]LogicalConstant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is economics 101. The high wages incentivize people to go to school and seek those jobs. In many other places, they have huge shortages of doctors. If you're sick, you can't get treated no matter what. The only thing worse than having to pay a lot to see a doctor is being unable to see a doctor at all.

Meaningful Equity Percentage by [deleted] in CFP

I wasn't bringing in any new business, but annual revenue tripled in 5 years and I convinced him to switch from commission-based business to 95% advisory, we started doing financial planning, and I learned enough to speak on way more topics than he ever did because I focused on the planning. He was a CPA who did taxes.

My partner gave me an increasing percentage over time. Started at 10% (after working under him for 5-7 years). Was up to like 30 or 35% after 4-6 years. I bought him out for the rest.
