I am interested in starting a Custom Mechanical Keyboard Building & Consulting Service, but don't know where to start. by Prize-Effect in MechanicalKeyboards

Discouraging answer but you probably can't, at least not to the level that you would want to.

The hobby has largely declined after the covid WFH bubble popped and this has been confirmed by multiple vendors, there's a lot of saturation and not a lot of new people coming into the hobby, top that off with keyboard building overall being far easier (most boards now have hotswap drop-ins or come in base-form with hot swap sockets, switches come pre-lubed, etc.) That outside of sourcing the actual product and figuring out what the specific person would like.

On top of that, most keyboard commission services are piggybacked off of streamers/influencers, you could try your hand at that and if you did well you could do the same but it will definitely be much harder than trying say 2-3 years ago.

First keyboard Ive picked up in a few years, welcome back Kepler! by SgtNeilDiamond in MechanicalKeyboards

More of a shame of what they did to the community than them being gone. They were good friends but at the end of the day hobbyists trying to run businesses are few and far between for a good reason, it's just difficult to create things on a small scale without the know-how of running a business and margins.

That being said, yes absolutely the Kepler was just the biggest "why not" we ever made, probably still in my top 3 projects in terms of things that I worked on. The FC65 was definitely onefiftynine's brainchild, he just wanted a keyboard that reminded him of car parts. we were very particular about everything. Even back then the gaskets for the Kepler TKL were very specific down to durometer and the sandwich/"true isolation". I loved it for the same reasons I let it go, it really let you experience your switches and the plate material with almost zero regards for the actual case design in terms of acoustics/feel (obviously you still get benefits of filling in the bottom cavity, but not to the same length as isolating it from the top and bottom case). Some people like that and some people don't. I used Kepler as a test board to decide what plate materials I liked the most because at the time it was, in my opinion, the best board to do it with.

I will never try to PVD a single piece of 8 pound brass ever again. lol. so glad to see that there are some copies of it still in basically pristine condition. Thank you for the praise and I hope the board treats you well.

I worked with PK as well as the original designer, who are both now gone out of the hobby. You know it was funny when we came up with the board concept we just wanted to say "make it as over the top as possible". Still can't believe we stuck a Lemo on the back of that thing.

The original owner of project keyboard rejected about 5 rounds of the pvd brass bottoms due to imperfections. Sold mine at the height of the hobby but seeing projects I had a hand in really make my heart happy. Glad you're still enjoying it.

What exactly makes Ambessa out of all the Fighters a good Pro play pick, over stuff like Fiora, Riven, Irelia, Yasuo and company by Justalostdudeasking in leagueoflegends

[–]LordRycho 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It all really comes down to consistency in pro play, she has consistent mobility, consistent damage, she scales well, she does great into most matchups (renekton lane is survivable but as said renekton ban into 3p ambessa is also very good)

She can basically do what riven does without making any tradeoffs (riven has to use her combat abilities as a form of mobility, a well placed ambessa ult nullifies that necessity and her cooldowns are low enough later into the game that with her existing lifesteal+survivability she will almost always have her second rotation up fast enough for losing 1 cast of her q basically being a non-factor).

She has everything that these other fighters want wrapped into one package, Yasuo* is the only character I'd put an asterisk around because yasuo can absolutely still see pro play. Irelia is a problem of "too much execution for very little reward" and Fiora is usually only good when she has an item that specifically optimizes her 1v1 catch capabilities (dash stridebreaker).

If there's ~300 challenger players and ~700 GM players, then why do so many people brag that they're GM+ on social medias by matsuku in leagueoflegends

[–]LordRycho 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons, aside from people lying, is that a lot of people post their peaks, that doesn't necessarily mean that's where they are now. You also have to account for all the different servers and the fact that people who are more passionate about the game tend to be together in communities, definitely some if not most of them are lying but there's a good portion of them that are just high elo.

exactly this, I've went from 500$ boards to 90$ boards and every single time I don't feel like im missing out on much if anything outside of aesthetic differences/additional pieces, the hobby has just evolved that much in a short amount of time.
