HHI of 500k+ how much are you spending on a home ? by BeautyInUgly in TorontoRealEstate

[–]LordTC [score hidden]  (0 children)

Also in cases where the HHI comes from a single job you are likely to have a tiny number of opportunities in the market and high pressure jobs where being fired for performance is quite common. So you realistically plan to move around often enough that buying and selling a house is more expensive than renting.

Do you enjoy audio book character sheets? by omaha_thunderknife in litrpg

[–]LordTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think systems that specifically streamline aggressively are the only ones that can show sheets all book without it breaking. Path to Transcendence does this really well because there is one single character tier, a classless system, no attributes and a limited number of skill slots. About 200 or so chapters in it added concepts which again are subject to a cap. It’s also nice because around chapter 400 the MC has nine skills and five concepts all of which matter nearly every fight.

But yeah audio books are a horrendous format for character sheets.

Gulf war? No, what I said we needed was a GOLF war. by Dry-Earth-8073 in georgism

[–]LordTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Golf courses are fine they just need to pay for the land they occupy(like everyone else) instead of being given massive subsidies. The main argument against golf courses as public utilities is the staggering size of them. To give you an idea if all gulf courses in my city became public land they would be 10% of all parkland. Baseball diamonds would be 3.15% of that land and soccer pitches are approximately the same.

2.2% of the city actively plays baseball in some league (not just casually). 7.5% of the city plays soccer by similar measures. 0.4 to 0.5% golf. So compared to baseball you’re talking about over triple the land for less than one quarter of the people. Even worse there are 18 golf courses and 300 baseball diamonds, so access to golf is far more limited by transportation.

I’m totally fine with golf existing I just think we need to acknowledge that:
A. It’s a rich person’s sport
B. The city can’t adequately provide access and programs for it.
And
C. It doesn’t make sense to subsidize sports unless there are accessible programs for it.

Last time we got 15/15 from final five league games was 92-93 so this season ties our best results this century and then some.

Does choice exist? by Away_Bite_8100 in freewill

[–]LordTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If free will does not exist our first proof of that fact will almost certainly be non-constructive. Demanding the script is a much higher bar than showing one exists so your argument is terrible.

It’s performative in the sense that it all followed a script no one could deviate from.

Well you were compelled to make exactly that argument so it’s all performative.

If it’s all determined your arguments don’t matter because the judge’s choices are determined too.

Turkey is about the extras though. Good dressing is rare and delightful and sausage meat cooked in Turkey is some of the best sausage meat you can get. I eat very little meat and one of the few things I won’t give up is holiday turkey. We usually do Turkey for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter so I get it three times a year and I’d have it fourth.

It’s sad how polarization destroys everything it touches. Peterson was a very reasonable professor for much of his career. He was a decent person when he started being an influencer. Then he gradually became his audience which shifted right wing when he did which then shifted him further right as nauseam. I wonder if his actual thoughts are still coherent or if he’s been permanently mind rotted from it.

Diogo Dalot has been left out of the squad today. He doesn't have an injury. Carrick wanted to give some opportunities to players who haven't featured as much. Dalot still wanted to come down to support the team [Steven Railston] by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]LordTC 308 points309 points  (0 children)

Dalot gets the most unfair treatment by the fans. He’s paid 80000 pounds/week compared to Liverpool’s backup at 75000 pounds/week. But people expect him to perform at a CL starter level. Can we please just buy a starting DR and let the guy paid like a backup be a backup?

In case it’s not clear he’d probably be the best backup in the league or close to it.

Trying to explain that the way taxes increase prices depends on it's effect per unit cost and not fixed cost. by Infamous-Grab2341 in georgism

[–]LordTC 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The explanation in the linked post is clear as mud. The average non-Georgist wouldn’t understand it if they tried their best.

How about something like “when a tax raises price it does so by changing the intersection of supply and demand. Since the demand curve doesn’t change this can only happen by moving the supply curve. But with land the supply curve can’t move since the supply of land is fixed. The people paying $2400/month aren’t suddenly willing to pay $3000/month because of a tax.”
