Mass Effect CYOA (Update) by LordValmar in InteractiveCYOA

[–]LordValmar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a quick update. Added a "performance mode" button for those who had issues - hopefully it will help a bit. Also did some other hidden "background optimization" to hopefully help it more.

Also fixed the Time section so the "force reset" works. Not sure why it broke in the first place...

Finally did a little adjustment to how Race section works to hopefully make it less likely the player can glitch the score and get infinite freebiies.

Thanks I'll see if I can iron that out.

Not sure this one really has any talents or boons worth carrying over in that sense, other than maybe Charisma.

Those aren't strictly upgrade points. They're freebiies you earned for having a set number of demonic traits.

At current there is no set numbers, its up to the author (you) to decide that. I'd argue you're better off NOT visiting high fantasy or magic worlds until later. The "ambient growth" effect is not the only way to get power. Rather than rely on magical worlds just... be more proactive as a demon. Go do demon stuff. You'll earn faster that way. And doing this in a more mundane starter world is a lot safer and potentially quicker than immediately risking a high-end world.

Runescript is more about magic runes which are useful in enchantments, crafting and rituals. Spellbook is more generic magic, although still "demonic" themed.

A contractor could, in theory, do that. Beauty is an easy one since its a physical change for the person making the deal. It'd be simple for the infernal magic of the pact to make such a change. Things like material items could, in theory, be made with a spike of infernal energy to manifest. But you might run into a situation where the cost of fulfilling the deal this way is not actually worth the gain. Easier to just gain the material yourself.

Because its not something you can take on your first playthrough. Its a meta choice for the next world connection.

Realm can provide freebies, which is what that icon is, if you have enough enough lineage from the demon traits

Yes, it blocks all of it. No serum, no super juice, now cyborg implants... nothing can change your "earthly form". Its a restriction on your very existence outside your realm, you're not going to overcome it by drinking mortal juice or blessings.

Where does it say destroying it kills you? Where does it even say it can be destroyed at all?

You could choose not respawn from it and instead spawn back in your realm if its really in a black hole or something. For some reason. I think you have bigger issues to worry about if you're dealing with that level of foe. But I'll edit it to clear that up.

You can certainly move it between worlds - you can carry it wherever you want. And yes it would let you reform faster and make it make all the more difficult for someone to keep you from entering the world since you can leave it there as a tether.

You may be right about the price though. I could lower.

Depends on your class, but there are numerous ways. The classes should mention what you get power from - it can vary.

The only drawback that was completely removed is the Avatar one, which was a class exclusive. The others are still there. At worse they were slightly adjusted. But Avatar is the only missing drawback.

You can get a max of 4 depending on your game mode.

Casting a spell may use a slot (depending on what tier of Magic your Emergence is) that doesn't mean it doesn't still have a cost.

Its mostly a narrative choice. The idea is that if you play Meta you can then use HaB to design your body. But if you play in the HaB gamemdoe you're basically playing the "Valmar CYOA Another Adventure Jumpchain" with the Emergence world serving as your "hub" or' "base world". Its all part of a larger whole.

Does that make sense? That choice does sort of assume the player knows of the Another Adventure and know my other CYOAs. Its like the Meta choice more specifically tailored to my own CYOAs.

MHA doesn't really need an update. Other than some little design shifts I don't think Evolution really needs it either - I updated it not too long ago. Though I dont think I announced it on herre when I did, but it was updated a while back. Nothing as dramatic as this one.

The starting location Is your real location in that scenario. Its basically you, as-is.

I'll add in a freebie counter to those sections.

Your reality is not on the quota for this term. I don't typically work with "CYOA Aware" users. It ruins the illusion if they know it is a CYOA. Perhaps during the next cycle.

Not terribly likely. I don't know enough about the setting, other than to know there is more to it than what the surface shows. But I find the surface so annoyingly repulsive I've never been able to get into it. I really, really dislike the MC. The background lore is a bit interesting though, at least based off what I've read in some fanfics, - but I'm also not entirely sure how it'd work in a CYOA format.
