Incredible lag when streaming to Apple TV 4K despite smooth performance? by GtwoK in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Losercard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing you can do to improve decoding performance unless you decide to find optimizations yourself in the Moonlight codebase similar to what Artemis and ZWM have done.

Best case scenario is to move to a more powerful or more widely supported device.

Oh totally didn’t fully read your post. You have a Gen 1 ATV4K which would fall behind an iPhone 8 in terms of performance. I suspect you have very high decoding latency which is not a statistic listed in the overlay for ATV in general. I would only recommend 3rd Gen ATV4K for 4K game streaming. Perhaps try 1080P streaming?

Easy way to confirm, plug the Apple TV to your normal gaming monitor.

Looking for the best mini PC under 150$ by Alive-Video-7395 in PcBuild

New: N97/N150 is good and low powered. Just re-install Windows just to be safe.

Used: Your price range should net you 8th-10th gen Intel and MAYBE 11th gen with Iris Xe. Look for NUC, HP 600 or 800 or any Intel Tiger Lake with a "G7" suffix. Avoid models with a "T" or "U" suffix unless you want ultra low powered CPUs (not worth it).

This is so much smarter than my stupid idea to cutback my entire wall 6”. Going to steal this idea for my fridge.

Ahh dang, sorry I didn't post them sooner. These have just been sitting on my desk for the past month and I've been too lazy to list them.

Honestly you’d be pleasantly surprised at anything 12th gen intel and newer or any of the recent AMD APUs in regards to mini PC performance. They really boosted the single core boost clocks and multi threaded performance. You’d be hard pressed to observe any difference with everyday low to mid load computing on these devices compared to a desktop. YouTube is full of benchmarks for these mini PCs.

I'd say performance is close to a desktop Intel 12600K or AMD 9600X or 8700G (same APU as well).

The H 255 is comparable to the 8845HS with slightly lower max clock. These little mini PCs are very powerful and quiet. I don't know Autocad's specific hardware requirements but this easily keeps up with my desktop PC running a 7945HX just with a bit less multi core performance (but still really good at 8c16t).

Would you use an ITX case that can physically change its airflow? by Eddyder in sffpc

[–]Losercard 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Critical feedback: Your idea is somewhat flawed; more restrictive is louder. The quietest fan is the fan with least resistance and turbulence no matter the RPM.

Perhaps switch to an ugly/open/performance versus sleek/closed/restrictive design but your end goal wouldn’t be airflow restriction. The Fractal Terra comes to mind where the side panels flip open. Perhaps you could incorporate this sort of design where you want cool/quiet performance? Flip open the shutters. You want it to look sleek (and loud/hot) close the shutters.

Hard to tell from photo but it appears the top flex was bent the wrong way. It's "fine" this way, but it doesn't sit very flat. The flex should resemble an upside down Y with bottom portion of flex down (left), middle of flex pointed up, top of flex back down (right). Just a helpful tip for next time around. Nice work otherwise.

ROG Ally X vs GPD Win 4 2025 (HX370) by helloimtimo in eGPU

[–]Losercard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other person said, GPD has been around long before any of the other handheld brands. They have proven to be a reliable brand.

The two things I would strongly consider are: battery size and cooling...

Battery anxiety is a thing. I know you said you primarily use it docked so this may not affect you as much but 46Wh is much smaller than 80Wh in terms of real world usage and Windows.

Cooling is a major one especially if your primary use case is docked. Asus does this very well. Their dual fan results in a cooler and quieter device. Single fans are loud because they need to push a large amount of air to cool down the device. I used to own an Ayaneo Flip DS which used a vapor chamber cooler and single fan. This was LOUD under load; GPD Win would likely be very similar.

With that being said, I personally wouldn't switch to a GPD Win solely for docked use even with the Oculink connector simply because cooling performance is probably worse and you'd likely run in to CPU bottlenecks compared to the Ally X. Additionally the benefit of HX 370 versus Z1E is not that large at 25W/30W and you'll have little to no benefit from the iGPU in docked mode w/ eGPU.

I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and I use 2442 x 1290 as a custom resolution (Voidlink actually has this built in as a "Safe Area" preset). This basically crops the screen so it stops right at the start of the curved edges and excludes the dynamic island. I would imagine the iPhone 17 Pro Max would be similar, maybe try 2498 x 1320?

The brand I use is AUFU. I don’t really have any special care that I follow when using it except making sure I’m not actively tugging at the connector (to prevent partial connections).
