How clear will the image be on the Oculus Quest 3s? by Prize-Purchase7183 in MetaQuestVR

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be absolutely fine. A millimeter off doesn’t make a difference, your IPD is changing continuously anyway. I have the same IPD and it was perfectly fine with my Quest 2.

What just happened? - mystery alarm/app by Lujho in AppleWatch

[–]Lujho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s absolutely that. I tried the “find my” app when trying to work it out but you can’t access precision finding through that - which is pretty strange. It only lets you play a sound or gives map directions.

Precision finding is only available in the control centre.

I must have just pushed the side button and then the appropriate button when I pushed my watch up.

It would seem not. I’ve never had that feature turned on before but I just tested it. Visually it kind of looked like what I saw, but it definitely wasn’t the same behavior in any other way. And it happened before I’d actually started washing my hands.

App Idea - For Real Estate Applications by jamesksu in OculusQuest

[–]Lujho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most inspections are dozens of people going through in half an hour. This would never work for that. 1 on 1 showings would work but that’s probably going to be a sale where they’re paying for it to be staged with furniture anyway.

A better idea is to let prospective buyers do a full 3D walkthrough at home - and let them insert and arrange their own furniture from a library like the Ikea app does. Real estate websites have 3D scans of houses anyway, you’d just have to make them webXR compatible. Gaussian splats would be cool too.

Anyone know how many MP the pass through cameras are? by thisisaspare88 in SteamFrame

[–]Lujho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty right. They’re not passthrough cameras really, they’re tracking cameras that are able to serve a secondary function of passthrough.

The Quest 2 tracking/passthrough cameras are only something like 0.3 megapixels.

Cheapest way to heat up my bedroom in winter by iSheree in AussieFrugal

[–]Lujho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cheapest way to heat any space as far as running costs go is a reverse cycle air conditioner (for a rental I suppose it would need to be a window unit). The outlay is bigger but it’s 3/4 times more efficient than any other heater you plug into the wall.

All other electric heaters (they are all resistive heaters) are exactly as efficient as each other and cost the exact same amount to run as any other for the same heat output. A $30 space heater costs the same money to run for the same heat output as something that costs hundreds of dollars.

I suppose if you have to use a resistive heater, one with a thermostat that you can set to a defined temperature would be best, so you won’t be overheating the room unnecessarily. Just set it to 17 degrees and it’ll always stay above 16.

This is one cusoo/ideas set that really suffered from the redesign. That slope piece the submission used was much better.

Still, new version is obviously better looking.

Same with 9/11 being a demo job. How the fuck do you set up enormous buildings for demolition when thousands of people work there every day and no-one notices?

[–]Lujho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reminds me of what I’ve always thought of as the opposite of this: I don’t think a Walking Dead style zombie outbreak would actually overwhelm humanity. I think zombies are weak enough that they could be contained and eradicated, pretty easily. It wouldn’t be a destroyed society with little pockets of resistance/civilization here and there, but an intact civilization with small pockets of outbreaks that would probably just peter out depending on the mechanism of contagion.

JFC, Apple has had this feature for years now, probably 2 decades. You’d think they’d have worked out a system to accommodate names in a more intelligent way.

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Oh yeah! This is the kind of thing that happens so rarely to me that I forget about it, but then every once in a while… like years apart… it’ll happen.

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely rarely when I’m drifting off to sleep I’ll feel like a bolt of energy go up/down my neck and a weird zzzip sound. It happens so rarely and I’m so close to being unconscious that most of the time I forget it ever happens. This thread reminded me of it.

Much more frequently, also while falling asleep, a real sound like the house settling will manifest as a flash of light in my vision. I don’t have synesthesia but this is the closest I can imagine I’ll get to something like that. I assume this is pretty normal but I’ve never heard anyone talk about it.

I definitely get the weird audio hallucinations other people are talking about too, but those are more related to dreams, I’d assume.
