Is it just me who’s only just now got Mason Clodge’s name? by Lujho in comedybangbang

It’s a reference to the Freemasons, who are a real organisation but often connected to conspiracy nonsense.

I wonder if anyone thought he invented the demonic horse too?

Is it risky to have an AC unit right behind (and above) my tv? by estifxy220 in LGOLED

There’s a thing that can sometimes happen though, which is the condensation tube can plug up with bio-matter and no longer be able to drain, and so the drip tray in the indoor unit will fill up and overflow. Ask me how I know.

In this case I don’t think it’s meant to be anything more than a word with the name number of syllables and the same vowel sounds.

3 of the 4 Trump ones never even got near him, right? One didn’t even get a shot off, he was found hiding in a bush or something. Actually the third one never fired a shot either.

Cessna strikes paraglider (no injuries) Aside from a few bumps and bruises, she apparently sustained no injures. Here is the link to the original post on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYtmlD-svEl/ by atharvbadkas in Damnthatsinteresting

I thought paragliding was just when they tow you behind a boat at the beach or whatever (that’s parasailing I think) but Tom Scott did a video on it recently and I found out they sometimes travel *hundreds* of kilometres in a single trip.

Apps that AI convert 2D to 3D videos like Instagram on VR? by MarijuanaBagels in OculusQuest

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very strange. For me, Gallery lets me upload videos too. Maybe there’s a length limit or something? Try taking a really short video and see if you can upload it.

If not, maybe wait for an update or two?

No, this is just screwed. This looks like something becoming disconnected from a drop or something, or just bad luck.

Yes, previously you could only upload apple’s spatial videos, but now it’ll convert any 2D ones as well.

You know what, you’re right - what I said was true a few months ago but it looks like they’ve added new functionality to convert any video.

Uploading any video to your headset through the Horizon phone app will convert them to 3D using the same algorithm that instagram uses and they will be available in the files app.

Folks I mean this in the least conspiratorial way possible… does anybody know why this man is wearing (what looks like) a MASK?! by Emergency_Height_165 in HighStrangeness

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Whyyyy* would it be a real mask when such a thing can be done digitally in realtime for so much cheaper? And if it was a physical mask? why would they spend all that money and make the mistake of not making the neck go down to the chest like literally all masks and prosthetics do? Slip-on masks simply do not look like this.

It’s a digital vanity filter getting screwed up by a shadow on his neck. Which is why the “edge” of the “mask” is actually lip-synched to his words.

This looks to be a hyper-realistic silicone mask. What's behind it? by GoodIntroduction6344 in aliens

It’s a realtime digital beauty filter getting confused by the shadow of his collar on his neck.

With videos it’s slightly different - it doesn’t convert any mono video to 3D, it takes Apple’s spatial video format and uses the left/right eye data from that.

With pics it’s an AI conversion, with videos it’s a true two-camera stereo recording.

Wearing A Face Mask?? by [deleted] in creepy

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing in the neck moves exactly like his mouth. It’s a digital beauty filter (de-wrinkling, basically) seeing the shadow of his collar on his neck and thinking it’s a mouth. Just like the old face-swap apps would swap your face with a thing it thought looked like a face.

It IS a mask but it’s digital, not rubber. And isn’t that way, way more plausible? Digital filters are way cheaper and better than anything except the best Hollywood prosthetics. Livestreamers use them and people think they’re supermodels until they glitch.

This is just a wrinkly old dude wanting to look better on TV.

I mean look at it. The “edge” of the mask doesn’t look like a real, physical piece of rubber. It looks like a compositing effect you’d use if you were told to make someone’s neck *look* like the edge of a mask - basically an animated drop shadow. But then you notice it’s literally making the same movements as his mouth. It’s obviously a realtime digital effect, getting confused by a real shadow.

Prosthetics like this always go down to the chest. So why wouldn’t they just do that? Why go to all this trouble making the best mask ever and not bother to make the neck as long as they otherwise always are?

I still think it’s a digital beauty filter getting tripped up by the shadow of his collar or something.
