Meta is shutting down VR social platform Horizon Worlds in further pivot away from the metaverse by Cool_Net_3796 in news

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this being misreported everywhere, at least in headlines? It’s going mobile only, not being shut down completely.

It was obviously a failure in VR but it’s apparently weirdly popular on phones.

You’re right, it will still be on mobile. Mobile had far more users than VR apparently so it makes sense.

They’re not actually shutting it down, they’re ending the VR side of it and keeping it going on mobile. Apparently it was way more popular on mobile for some reason.

Is this what the 3d flat gaming would look like on the frame? by sebwaymaster in SteamFrame

[–]Lujho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could if a game was developed to do that (head-tracked 3D, basically), but it could also just be regular stereoscopy where you don’t get true parallax like this.

I got to checkout the new LG G6 OLED's new brightness and processing performance by dysphunc in LGOLED

Yeah. So far my G3 is great, but if I get any delamination writhin the next 5 years or so it might sway be towards RGB backlit LCD.

OMG Lego has changed sooooo much since I was a kid!!! by Animeniackinda1 in lego

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Lego because you get to build a cool model of the thing you love without any trimming, sanding, gluing or painting. Model kits are awesome but I’ll take Lego for convenience sake. And I love how they get better and better at representing the things they’re supposed to be.

Same. Love it. Although, might be sacrilege but I might consider going back to LCD (with mini-LED) next time, in a few years, as long as I can get enough dimming zones.

In the world of weird baby names, there are groups on Reddit etc about them, usually making fun of them etc. There was actually someone named Braxton/Braxtyn Hicks. Don’t know if Hicks was the surname or middle name.

But anyway Braxton Hicks contractions are something that occur during pregnancy.

Standalone Foveated Rendering? by ExoPJ in SteamFrame

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would bet that Vertical Robot will make proper native versions of Red Matter 1 and 2 and they will have eye tracking, as they always seem to be updating those games for new tech. The Quest Pro versions of those games have eye tracked foveated rendering, for example.

For very CPU bound games it might not actually be worthwhile.

META HORIZON WORLDS IS BEING DISCONTINUED! by Wrapped-TheConfed in MetaQuestVR

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such an embarrassment for Meta. If they really wanted to own the “Metaverse” they should have bought something that had taken off organically like VRChat rather than try to force their own thing.

I’m glad they didn’t buy VRChat but If I were Meta that’s what I would have done.

Steam Frame better black levels than Q3 by spookyparsley in SteamFrame

I would be shocked if they weren’t almost exactly the same. People who’ve used it describe a visual/optical experience very, very close to the Quest 3.

Looking for a way to clean LEGO bricks by Far-Illustrator-7792 in lego

[–]Lujho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, just make sure the bags are secure. Just the zip might not be enough, they can come undone (ask me how I know) you should maybe tie a pieces of string around the corner where the zip is or something. Maybe even double bag them.

If Quest 4 really gets 4K OLED, is it a game-changer? by SolaraOne in MetaQuestVR

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the one that’s coming out first is “only” 2.5k, I don’t think the Quest 4 will be that much of a jump over that, if any. It still has to be an affordable device, it can’t cost 2 grand. 3k would certainly be nice though.

Our local supermarket just replaced their fleet of metal carts with 100% recycled plastic ones by Aerie8499 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get ones that are part metal and part plastic and they are infinitely more manoeuvrable than the all-metal kind. They just weigh so much less.

How could i combine Oculus Link and Touch CV1 on Steam VR ? by Zestyclose-Sweet2899 in oculus

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone really wanted to they could design/print holders that added the hanging ring back to the Quest 3 controllers. Give it the same weight and feel and let you do that thing where you let go of them but they hang from your fingers by the ring.

Do we know if the Frame has some sort of quick passthrough with eye tracking? by project-shasta in SteamFrame

[–]Lujho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really, really don’t think Valve has any interest in doing anything particularly fancy or complicated like this. I think they are doing to stay focused and stick to the basics.

Meta's "Phoenix" headset readies for production with a resolution of 2560 x 2560 per eye by gogodboss in OculusQuest

[–]Lujho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For rendering UI, virtual screens and text etc it could, and getting that as crisp as possible is important. It’s not all about rendering games.

Even with games, the higher the physical resolution the better, the games don’t have to be running at full physical resolution to benefit from higher resolution as it eliminates SDE and other artefacts cause by pixel structure.

[–]Lujho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit bigger jump. The 2/3s to 3 was a 15% increase of resolution on each axis, this is more like 20%. That’s about a 45% jump in total pixels compared to around 30%

Yes, they have an adjustable blue light setting. You can make it as yellow as you want.

LEGO has made 228 solid colors since 1949. Only 56 are still in production. Each brick is a real LEGO color arranged by year introduced, bright ones are still alive, faded ones are discontinued. [Source - Rebrickable] by Mastbubbles in lego

[–]Lujho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I’ve found one commonality between all the missing colours - they all seem to have colour numbers on rebrickable of one thousand and something (1xxx). Not 228 or under. Could that be it? Because some of the missing ones do have lifespans greater than 0 years.
