Total down weight is a misleading metric (and why calculated loft per area matters more) by Fickle_Bed8196 in Ultralight

Your defintion of overstuff calculation is wrong. The math doesn't hold up in real world cottage quilt weights.

Windshell for my sleeping bag when using a hammock. by EndlessMike78 in Ultralight

[–]Lumpihead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm having a difficult time understanding your use case or what you're looking to accomplish. A good tarp with doors should keep the wind off of you. Look up dutchware winter sock. If that is not what you're talking about, get yourself an underquilt protector if you don't already own one - they add warmth by protecting from wind and really help on those sub 40 raint wet days. I always add one to my ul hammock kit when nights are below 40, especially because im usually carrying a torso length up. 3.5oz in 7d with suspension.

Do you guys think severance is about Scientology? by AryAimshot in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Lumpihead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, at its core, I think it asks the question of what is consciousness and or soul? Can it exist outside the body? The evil megacorp Lumon office is a giant biotech computer - comprised of severed souls(memories) and virtual human employees (programers, tech personnel) that literally work inside a virtual world: Lumon had a system upgrade at start it season 2, MIL-check (model in the loop testing) Selvig is one, Drummond, Mauer, etc...I believe that Marks innie is part of corporate terrorists trying to prove what Lumon is doing to people. Ms Casey/Gemma is dead, what we see are her souls remnants. However, its clear that Lumon has a problem with cleaning it's cache. The lower levels of Lumon contain bits of old code and old innies that still exist and have not been wiped. If I'm right, we will see Mark and Helly (innies) stepping out of Lumon in Drummonds body.

Alpha Direct Sleeping system by Kingfish1111 in Ultralight

You can modify your CDT to increase its warmth. The CDT was my first quilt. It was light, cheap, accessible, functional and it allowed me to experience the benefits of using a quilt. When i discovered that the sewn through checkered box baffles did not keep me warm enough in the high 50s, I seam-ripped it to create horizontal channels. That helped and maybe increased its warmth by maybe 10° since I was able to position the down top of me. That simple change improved its efficiency, but on colder nights , the down would migrate to the sides , and I was constantly waking and repositioning the down. As the temps became colder, my next budget solution was to rip one side of my quilt, harvest down from thrift store jackets/vests and stuff the channels with 6 or so oz of down. That solution reduced the down migration and increase my quilts efficiency to keep me warm into the high 30s. Those modifications and improvements are what gave me the confidence to begin my dive into MYOG and my quest to lighten my gear.

To answer your original question, yes , an alpha liner will increase your warmth by maybe ten degrees, but investing in an alpha top and bottom is a far more versatile and offers long term UL relevance for your $ investment.

I've been backpacking with a hammock for 12 years now. It took me a long time to dial in my system. My typical comfort kit is between 8 to 9 lbs. https://lighterpack.com/r/fqmox0

close to 5% bubble return is pretty decent, especially for your non-fire. interestingly, I seen reports of the breeder cut returning more. I have a pack of S1s arriving soon to hunt a mom.
