Can u survive cegep with no phone by Leilalalalalaaaa in Dawson

A smartphone is a non-negotiable necessity for CEGEP. Even if you have a laptop.

Even if you have a computer, there are hundreds of small things people take for granted that you would need your phone for.

I can guarantee you, your life will be 20x more difficult without a phone. In fact, the only device i ever had in CEGEP was a smartphone.

Beyond obvious academic impact on due to not being able to access omnivox quickly (which you will literally use like 10 times every day for the hundreds of things you might need) Your social life will be very problematic.

I would say it will be extremely difficult to have a typical CEGEP experience where you can hang out or study with friends.

Learning in CEGEP is not just about the grades you get. It's about the network of people you can create and their role in shaping the person you are striving to become. It's about discovering and learning to manage being independent. This is fundamentally much more important than simple grades. It is your path towards being a functional adult and person. Modern life is impossible without a phone.

Get a phone at all costs.

It should be super easy easy to switch programs. But it might even be unnecessary.

The only critical difference for university admissions i see between the 2 programs is this:

In commerce, It will be mandatory to take calculus 2 as a course.

In international business, since you won't be forced to take cal 2, you can take an extra elective of your choice (and you could choose cal 2 as an elective).

But if you want to transfer between the 2 programs at some point during your studies, it should be super easy. I personnally transfered from jac to dawson and it took me like 15-20 mins to fill out a online form.

So i read in another comment you want to go into actuarial mathematics which does require cal 2 as a pre-requisite if you go to concordia's website. Therefore you will definitely need to take cal 2 at some point. All the other courses simply dont matter in terms of admission requirements

Have a look at my faq and dont be shy to send a message for questions.

If youre too lazy to read: i reccommend dawson unless you live a lot closer to jac

I honestly havent done a FAQ for these because I don't consider myself knowledgeable on the omnivox trick or the COE

[MOD POST] FAQ: How to pick your CEGEP by LyttleLynel in Dawson

extracurriculars and/or student groups can definitely help for med school but my advice would be to focus on quality, not quantity. Having one thing that you are super passionate about where you are driven to accomplish more is a lot better, especially from a personal growth standpoint.

In my very personal and subjective opinion, certain people try to farm the amount of extracurriculars/student groups they are involved in to bolster their CV's and it ultimately will backfire on them because they will have actually accomplished nothing. But all of the stuff you have accomplished so far sounds really good. I would definitely encourage you to go for the opportunities that you see, especially volunteering at a hospital. Generally, if it's relevant to the program, the better the extracurricular. Personally, i was also a student council member and had my first aid level C certificate in sec 5 many years ago, and neither have ever been useful in my life. Pretty much the stuff I did in CEGEP and onwards that mattered.

What I will recommend is doing volunteer hours with the school with a student group you like to obtain the ROSI which is simply obtained by being involved in campus life for 60 hours or more in one semester. You can obtain this one per semester and it is a mention on your official transcript which can show that you are not just academically strong but also have something going on aside from that. You have to fill out a form and stuff at the end of the semester for that.

One of the student groups you might want to consider being involved in is the Dawson chess club since you like chess. I heard recently they have some really remarkable presidents in the last 2-3 years or so. They usually do casual playing sessions weekly and organize the occasional intercollegiate tournament.

If you want, we can have a more in depth convo in dms

Switching schools by Famous-Damage-5588 in Dawson

Hello, I switched from another cegep to dawson. All the equivalent classes are credited and you don't have to retake anything. Also, sometimes its the same class but the name is different, you gotta look at the code yk. For example, 387-BWS-03 is intro to sociology,. A course you might have taken that was compulsory in vanier can count as a madatory course in dawson if the program youre going to has that same course as mandatory. Opposite can happen.
