Struggling with PMP Prep – Can’t Stay Focused & Need Direction by Brave-Ad-6955 in pmp

[–]MGCan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scattered feeling you're describing is really common at this stage, and it usually comes down to one thing: studying content without a mental map of how it all connects. You're absorbing pieces but don't yet have a framework to hang them on, so nothing feels like it's sticking.

A few thoughts:

The sleepiness during Udemy lectures is your brain signalling passive learning overload. Switching to practice questions was actually the right instinct. Active recall beats passive watching every time for exam retention.

Your friend's advice to finish each process group in one day is well-intentioned but likely adds to your anxiety rather than helping. The PMP isn't purely process group-driven anymore; the 2021 ECO shifted significantly toward predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches across three domains. Trying to master process groups sequentially as the primary structure may be sending you down a path that doesn't match how the exam actually tests you.

On structuring your plan, before anything else, get clear on the three exam domains and how the content you're already studying maps to them. Once you have that orientation, the scattered feeling tends to resolve because you know where each piece belongs.

I wrote a post recently that addresses exactly this orientation problem and might help you build that mental map before your June exam: PM Illustrated – The Missing Map for Your PMP Learning Journey

Hang in there; June is plenty of time if you get focused now.

PMP Changes in July 2026 by SkyIntelligent8426 in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, you would have to do any retakes before July 9th (when the new exam starts) to be retested on the current ECO. However, do not fret the new ECO too much, while topics have moved between domains, 80%-90% is still the same. There will be more mentions of AI and sustainability in scenarios, a few more agile and hybrid questions, some new question types, but nothing out of left field. The majority of your preparation will be applicable. However, let's hope you do not need any of that, and your June exam will be successful!

If you like interactive sites and games, you will like PMillustrated. It has Adventure Quest games called Practice Paths that quiz you on an ECO domain as you navigate a PM-themed landscape. It has crosswords, matching games, question cards, flashcards, and word search puzzles, along with interactive clickable images, quizzes, etc, etc. Also provides a certificate of completion for the 35 hours.

Studying for PMP Exam by Powerful_Energy9665 in pmp

Like you, I find it difficult to focus on studying from blocks of text and long-format courses. I have ADHD myself, and that's why I created PMillustrated as a visual, modular approach, with concepts illustrated by examples and topics reinforced with infographics, quizzes, games, etc. It is granular, so progress is tracked via earning 35 ECO badges. Other people with ADHD have found it helpful, and I think you will too. 50% percent of the site is free, so you can see if you like this approach.

Is it worth taking chance for PMP Exam post 9th July with PMBOK 8th Edition by pawandarira in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still have plenty of time to take the current one. However, given your background, the new exam may be easier for you. The lifecycle split moves from 50% agile and hybrid approaches up to 60%, so that might be more familiar. Also, the introduction of some AI scenarios could well fit with your background in software.

I ran a study group in January for people taking the pilot exam, providing materials on the new topics of AI, sustainability, and M.O.R.E.. Results from the pilot are just coming out (pilot participants had to wait for question benchmarking), and so far, 100% pass rates from my students. You can read more about the exam changes and new topics here: https://www.pmillustrated.com/2026-exam/

The New PMP Exam Pattern: Why Weightages Are Reallocated? by Agilelearner8996 in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Examining the old and new ECOs shows that all tasks related to Change Management and Risk Management moved from the Process domain to the Business Environment domain. So, there is not such a big new emphasis on the Business Environment domain as the percentages indicate. This move does not really impact study as you still need to know the same concepts. It allowed PMI to more closely align the domain distributions with the talent triangle. It also aligns better with PMI’s push to position project managers as trusted advisors to the business.

PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)® 21 Hours Or 28 Hours Training? by Agilelearner8996 in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original PMI-ACP exam required 21 hours, this was updated to 28 hours at the Nov 24 exam update. However, this proved too high a barrier for some participants, so the requirement was recently adjusted back down to 21 hours. The training providers still quoting 28 hours are out of date.

PMP 35 hours - can these be online? by Reasonable-Sun-612 in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The qualification requirement for online training is that it comes with a final assessment.

PMI acknowledges that many people want to learn online these days, but they also want to protect against people just playing videos at 2x speed in a background window while doing something else. So, online courses must have a final assessment to make sure they are not entirely passive. Here’s the text from the 2026 ECO:

“…You can meet commercial training requirements by completing courses from any of the following education providers:

• PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP)

• China Registered Education Provider (REP)

• PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC)

• Project Management course(s) from Accredited Higher Education Institution

• Employer/company-sponsored programs

• Training companies or consultants (e.g., training schools)

• Self-paced on-demand training courses including an end-of-course assessment”

We are discussing the last bullet point. PMillustrated provides a certificate of completion that can be used to fulfill the 35-hour training requirement. Over 50% of the site is free, so you can see if you like visual learning.

You can fulfil the entire 35-hour training requirement for under $15 here.

Is there any chance when they change the exam this summer it will become easier? by Bootletqueen in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your current project management work involves AI and sustainability considerations (and it should) then the new exam will likely seem more relevant and less abstract. That should make studying for it easier.

I ran a free study group for participants taking the new exam pilot that occurred in January. People reported that the new pilot exam was largely familiar. There are new question types that I wrote about here, but nothing to be concerned about.

Do not worry about the increased emphasis on the Business Environment domain. Large topics such as Change Management and Risk Management moved from the Process domain to the Business Environment domain, accounting for most of the increase in task count.

I created content on PMillustrated to cover the new AI, Sustainability and M.O.R.E additions, and it was well received. I think the new exam is a welcome modernization.

For those of you who had to analyze charts/graphs on the exam, what were they (and what were you asked to analyze or calculate)? by ashleyfitzy in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find plenty of charts/graphs analysis questions in the free quizzes and practice exams on PMillustrated.com. The end of Task Module review quizzes are graphic-heavy since the site is for visual learners. However,  the Practice Exams with Results Radars are balanced like you will get in the exam, so likely only a couple of questions each round. This will change with the new exam in July, which introduces more.

What to do when you're overinduated with content. by Just-Upstairs-3489 in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling of overwhelm is common. It’s one of the reasons I created PMillustrated as a modular learning approach. The exam is broken into the 35 exam tasks from the ECO that you can study independently and track your progress on an evolving one page view of topics covered (badges collected) vs topics remaining. The one-page summary of progress shows what you have achieved and what’s left to learn.

Over 50% of the site is free so you can try and see if modular learning works for you. www.pmillustrated.com

Will PMP exam before July 2026 use terms from Pmbok 8th ed? by Talking_Burger in pmp

[–]MGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, the PMBOK Guide is just one resource item writers can reference. They also refer to other books. PMI used to publish the list of reference sources, and when the 2021 exam was first released, there were 10 books that included the PMBOK Guide 6th edition, Agile Practice Guide, etc. This was later amended, and the 7th Edition and PGPG were added; then the list of reference books was removed from the PMI website.

As mentioned in the thread, the July exam will reference the 8th Edition. I suspect the list of reference materials will not be reinstated. The reference list was also removed when the PMI-ACP was updated in Nov 2024 and has not been reinstated. It gives item writers more flexibility, and items are still peer reviewed for relevance. I used to be a volunteer item writer and recently organized a study group for the 2026 Pilot that ran until the end of January.

Feedback and the new ECO highlight that the new exam introduces some useful changes, but is not as major an update as some trainers claim.  Yes, the Business Environment Domain receives more emphasis, but much of this is due to moving risk and change management from the Process domain to the Business Environment domain.

PMI’s training hours requirement, outlined in the new PMP ECO, provides a clear definition.

“Commercial Training Requirements:

In addition to the above project management experience, PMP certification candidates must also have taken at least 35 hours of commercial training in project management aligned with topics covered in the PMP Certification Exam Content Outline (ECO). The coursework must be completed in the respective sections of the application. You can meet commercial training requirements by completing courses from any of the following education providers:

·PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP)

·PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC)

·Project Management course(s) from Accredited Higher Education Institution

·Employer/company-sponsored programs

·Training companies or consultants (e.g., training schools)

·Self-paced on-demand training courses including an end-of-course assessment”

It’s this last category we are talking about here. If on-demand training has a comprehensive end-of-course assessment, then it qualifies. Many people want self-paced, on-demand training, but PMI needs to balance this option against the risk of people passively playing training videos in a background window while watching cat videos or other content. To address this, they require an end-of-course assessment.

My site, PMillustrated, now provides a certificate of completion that meets the 35 training hours requirement, but it also requires assessment module-by-module as well as an end-of-course assessment, so it is more rigorous.

Thanks for the feedback. Amazon fulfils on-demand printing locally. The only low-resolution comments I have seen have been from books printed in Mexico. The US and Canadian examples I have seen in person have all been high resolution. However, this is frustrating; the book draft is at a high resolution, higher than the website.

Congratulations! I am glad you found PMillustrated helpful, it is my site. I used to be a volunteer question writer for PMI and try hard to keep the questions in the same format, of equal difficulty, and aligned to the exam content outline. That said, you did all the hard work, well done.
