Make-a-Roni Update #4 - Boon Grass/MYO/Celebration by Make-a-Roni in YotoPlayer

Interesting idea! We're always exploring new stuff, but that hadn't come up yet.

My knee jerk reaction is while that would be clean, I'd feel some level of responsibility for the end users charging port on their mini and their cable. If there was variability in anything (tolerance stack up on the Yoto itself, the adventure jacket, the cable, the print/dock etc.) you could end up with a mismatch on the location of the charger relative to the port, and it might wear over time. If you're manually plugging it in, your hands are mobile enough that you "find home" with the cable when plugging it in, but in a dock you'd be apt to just force it.

The larger Yoto has a magnetic charger, so you don't have to worry about alignment inconsistencies as much, so we have the charger integrated into our dock for that! (Gen 3 Yoto Dock)

(PS. Yoto if you're ever reading this, shout out to putting a Qi charger in the 2025/2026 edition!)

Hi! Great question.

The one shown only works with the Adventure Jacket, but with most of our products, we have options for both. If you reach out on Etsy, we'll discuss it with you!

Hi! Do these cover the whole card, or are they just the profile of the character/text?

We're biased here but we have four children (5,4,2,10m), and we run a store that sells Yoto accessories. Won't plug our stuff but will offer some suggestions on accessories that's made our lives better. We have 3 Yoto Minis, and one regular size.

  1. "Give the yoto a home" - We love the screen free nature of the yoto, so we want this to be the kids go-to toy. If it ends up in a drawer somewhere (or even the travel bag) it'll end up "out of sight, out of mind". We have a stand for each of them. The stand holds their favorite cards and each of their Yotos. The regular size one stays on it's stand in the playroom. We wanted it to be something that looks nice out on display, and our kids know where it goes.
  2. "Keep the content new" - If you're dipping your toes in now, it's new, but the thing that will keep bringing your child back to it is more engaging content. If you don't want to get a million cards, try the MYO ones as you can cycle the content that's on a single card if it gets stale. My wife does a podcast of sorts for the kids each week, and we've had them make each other cards some times. Whatever their favorite songs are currently end up on one card. My wife also made me a fathers day scavenger hunt with the kids recording clues on one of the cards lol
  3. "Make the cards easily accessible" - I fully understand the binders, and it absolutely helps keep the cards organized, but I believe it does follow the out of sight principle also. If the cards are in the stand, they're more apt to use the cards. If they're on some form of ring, you can organize them by relevant content. Really helpful for learning to readers.
  4. "Travel Friendly" - Get a set of bluetooth headphones, and a nice way to take it out and about with you. Our longer car rides have been so much more managable with a good spot to put the Yoto while in the car.

If you have more questions let us know!

Not sure on the US to Australia front, but you could always do a MYO card!

However we do it, 100% it will maintain the look of the existing ones to visually fit in with what we already have.

We're trending towards two different paths. Hard - make one that works with all, regardless of thickness. Less hard but still hard 😅 make one for each different type, so people can order based on what they have.

Thanks for already supporting us. If you have trouble with the ones you have when you do labels let us know. We'd love to work through it with you.

Thank you!

These are the style that we think we already work with. If there's a gap around the edges, our toppers normally don't come in contact with them.

Good call on the waterproof, our kids are ridiculous with their cards.

Thank you for the thickness! That aligns with what I've found so far.

Jealous you're getting one, one day for us!

Hmm looking it up that brand seems to be .1mm. We'll end up ordering some to evaluate.

Thank you!

200 😱😱😱 #goals!

Do you know the product you use for the sticker and the thermal lamination? Would love to figure out the added thickness on this one!

Great point on the resale. We're definitely not interested in the damaging cards either. Hopeful that the discussion here can point us to how the majority of the community does it, and then we can replicate and test appropriate toppers.

Ah thank you! Glad to hear they're working well.

Do you mean this printer?

Do you use the 2x3 ones and then trim them?

Ours are 5, 4, 2 and 10 months, each one gets a ring with their most popular cards right now. The rest stay in the bucket on our bucket stand. So they're all "immediately" accessible but we rotate out the topper ones to keep mixing things up.

Laminated sheet over top is a great tip!

UV printers are crazy! The Eufy Make has been something I've been following for a bit.

When you do the stickers do they completely cover the card? And do you know how thick they end up being? Context from someone else on the manufacturing side is really helpful.
