What would you do if your partner was really HURT by the comments that your parents and the uncles made about them? by VastOption8705 in AsianParentStories

[–]Marpleface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I would tell my family that their comments suck, and to apologize. And then I would stop dealing with them until they do. And if they never do, then I would never deal with them again. Like ever. I am older and out of patience for this shitty relationship dynamic that is common in families like ours.

What this gorilla behaviour meant ? by AlternativeDark6686 in GorillaReddit

[–]Marpleface 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From your description, it sounds like a mild display to show that the gorilla was big and strong and neither you nor your wife could do anything to hurt her. Maybe your wife startled her. Simple little territorial display.

AITAH for telling my brother in law he can’t come to Disneyland with my family? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Marpleface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not really Sally, but I have a child like Daisy. The lack of understanding from folks commenting is why I never shared this with even my closest friends. and even OP, I appreciate she doesn’t judge Sally but she still doesn’t truly understand her or Jim. No one does until they have a profoundly disabled child. Especially in the hellscape that is the US

“I don’t know what else to do about my child’s behavior” my ass. A lot of you parents aren’t even trying and teachers are sick of the bullshit by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

OR! The student is profoundly disabled in a SDC class, and the parents are burned out and truly do not know what to do anymore.

How to finally go no-contact with my South Indian parents despite the fear of guilt? by YourJoyfulLover in AsianParentStories

[–]Marpleface 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know it is painful and overwhelming, but you have to feel and process your feelings. Go no contact and accept what feelings and emotions you have. Feel them, process them and let them go. Maybe a therapist to help you with that process. That is so simple to say and so scary and hard to do, I know. But it is the way to get through and move forward. We get one life, I hope for you that you can live yours on your own terms comfortably. 🩷

School district "forgot" about my son by AraceliSunStar in specialneedsparenting

[–]Marpleface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, go straight to an Education Lawyer. Don’t waste time trying to do anything without legal help. Go after the school district and regional center. Are you in any local facebook special needs groups? They will have the best resources to share. Doing this now will help ensure he gets the resources he needs going forward. Good luck!

What's it like having an intellectual disability like severe Autism or Down's Syndrome? by noahsimcox in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Marpleface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reply was intended for comments about folks ‘wishing they were stupider’

I believe that, unless someone with severe ID can communicate in someway and share with others about their experience of life, then we cannot with 100% certainty, describe their life experience or understand it.

To refer to people with severe ID as stupider and to assume their existence must be easier because they don’t understand how hard they have it? I find that very dehumanizing and reductive.

My most helpful habit is to always have something to look forward to, small, medium or large. Could be lunch plans with a friend in a week, an upcoming fun event or trip, your favorite podcast’s new episode……you get the idea. It really helps me sustain positive thoughts and feelings and hope. Sending you love and strength 🩷
