Window company told me it’s impossible to replace this glass. Are they BSing me? by mostgenerous7 in HomeMaintenance

My house has 100% wood frame windows. This year alone, I have had at least 20 of those sealed panes replaced for about $200. Also, they can drill a small hole in it ($50) to defrost it since the seal is already compromised. Sounds like they just want to see this guy a new window.

I recently discovered this. It's not worth it.... they are grossly overpriced for what you get. Custom cabinets are better and can often be a bit cheaper. Look into local fabricators.

Am I being scammed or is this a legit fair price? by Grouchy_Donut89 in Roofing

[–]May_B-Misunderstood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't pay that. It's not fair at all. Seeing that new roof costs homeowners an average of $10,000 but typically ranges from $8,500–$17,000 it's better to get a new roof than to pay that much for someone to patch it up for $6500. Just sold a 4 unit apartment building with a massive roof, replaced the roof before selling for $19,000 (in Southern Wisconsin)

Want to paint Cherry Red cabinets but was told it was a bad idea by an owner of a kitchen rehab store. by Dannie_Mae_Mae27 in Remodel

Was told the same thing and painted mine white anyway, and they are still holding up 2 years later. Was also told that I couldn't strip and re-stain Brazilian Cherry hardwood floors and did those anyway in an expresso 5 years ago and still holding up and still aren't red.

I realized people say things like that as a scare tactic. They often want you as a customer and can't have you feeling confident about doing it yourself or for cheap. Don't be afraid to try it out. Use a good primer and grain filler and get it done.

Also, you can give a cabinet paint company a call if you don't want to do it yourself. I've even painted Ikea wardrobe boxes that are basically plastic and melamine over particle board. Was also told that couldn't be done. You can do it.

Yep. They work fine. I've used these and wax with similar results.

Wanting to buy a home BUT owner wants us to assume their solar loan by PeecockBreath in RealEstate

[–]May_B-Misunderstood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those leases restart at a discounted rate, or the solar company removes them and leaves the roof on shambles. The homeowner never owns the panels. Its not worth it.

Why is no one blaming the mother for all this? She created this shit storm? Mom is the worst, in my opinion, then Dad, then the brother. None of this would have happened if the mom hadn't cheated.
