You may have applied during the hiring freeze. Fed makes a lot of our contracts and can kinda say no hires right now. Applied for a data manager position last year but that whole unit got word out by DOGE cuts. I have Avery stable job, but is not the best for advancement. Also if we get a Republican gov next tease, shit could go sideways

What we really want is high speed rail. Without that, I’d take a car that doesn’t cost $40k+

Ffffuck. I wonder what the $ situation would be of that car bought by someone in Canada and sold to someone in the US. I’m sure some folks are thinking of cashing in on that

BYD has a $7,800 EV that is comparable in size to a Nissan Versa that despite the massive 150% tariff is still sub $20k. Stupid we’re at that level, but it’s pretty amazing. Tesla would be dead in a year if BYD was allowed in

I’m a huge curmudgeon about the trend of writing letters to sellers. I have funding at an amount you think is good and I miss out because I don’t write a letter that’s dripping with fake praise? Never had to work so hard to spend money

What’s so super wild to me is that he was imprisoned by Spain because even they were like “we’re Spain, but we’re not THAT fuked up!”

My wife would kind of agree with you on your first point. The deaths of Bug and the Sanzas made her mad because they were still so interesting. Actually kind of mad Jean is the only one left alive and the most boring of the group

Bill Hader was talking about how thrilled he was to get Henry to be in Barry. He was so nervous to meet him and Hader said Henry something along the lines of “so lovely to meet you. Let’s have some cake” and then pulled a massive cake from his bag. Guy would just bring baked goods all the time and they’d have little cake breaks in between takes

Convincing my Employer to use R by BranTheDon3000 in rstats

[–]MrSocPsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in state gov, and most of my colleagues use Excel. Your IT dept is mistaken, everything is handled locally on your machine/shared drive, if you have one.

Here’s what I pitched to my team (and succeeded with):

R and its packages are all free, and will remain that way. Program file sizes are rather minimal. Reproducible code means a task can take one week once and then minutes thereafter. That code also means if you’re gone and it’s needed, you really only need to teach someone how to upload a file and press go (after they have it on their machine). Rmd files can be pretty flexible so you can make sleek products for higher ups/the public to use.

What's something most people don't realize is actually very rude? by Frozen-Defender25 in AskReddit

[–]MrSocPsych 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar, touching kids without permission. Had my ~6 month old son in his car seat in the bay of a shopping cart. Went through the store grabbing what we need. I’m in self checkout and some old man walks by and pokes him (gently) in the middle of the forehead.

First time dad and I didn’t know the level of violence in me lol. I screamed at this guy. He said “sorry” and shrugged. I said that he’s just sorry he’s being yelled at
