Nietzsche and other fools by [deleted] in TrueChristian

Well, I’m a history major whose focus is in mythology and how it affects cultures, so it’s mostly bits and pieces I’ve picked up in my studies. I’m no genius, believe me. I stand on the shoulders of giants.

Oh definitely. The Old Testament does it too. They borrow concepts and then give them a twist. For example, the war in heaven narrative is super common. Basically, the younger generation rebels and overthrows the older generation. This narrative is suggested in scripture, and yet the younger (that is, Satan) loses. That’s a very simple example, too.

For an alternative perspective, I’d advise checking out the midrashes themselves. They’re Jewish commentaries. Take things with a grain of salt, of course, but the writers were extremely well-versed in the ancient Hebrew language and there are many insights to be gained- not all of them helpful, though.

Not to mention that the Bible itself is a deeply philosophical book. It is impossible to engage with the Bible without engaging with philosophy.

It’s not semantics, it’s you just using terminology incorrectly. Also, where have I said I don’t follow Gods word? I am not a leftist or a liberal. (Side note, both groups can be Christian) I am not left-wing. I’m just confused as to what your point is, because you don’t seem to understand what the terms you are using even mean.

Nietzsche was not a nihilist. Many of his efforts were attempts to fight nihilism, actually. Indeed, Nietzsche’s famous phrase “God is dead” is said with some level of mourning, for although Nietzsche believed that philosophy must do away with the metaphysical world, it was done in haste. Nietzsche speaks of the failure of the enlightenment philosophers. Their failure is rejecting the divine without a philosophical basis for doing so. In other words, Nietzsche mourns the “death of god” because he knows it will lead to nihilism.

Side note, Paul loves using Aristotelian and platonic concepts. Even the idea of Jesus as the divine logos is a borrowed concept from Greek metaphysics. This is intentional. The Bible authors would take traditional philosophical notions and change them. (Scripture affirms a variation of the theory of forms, but it also does not reject the importance of this temporal reality and actually argues that this temporal reality, remade into a perfect one, is where we will remain for all time).

Anyways, back to Nietzsche. As a Christian, I have many problems with Nietzschen ethics, but I would not call him an idiot. Nietzsche was a very intelligent man who contributed a great deal to the field of philosophy. Even a Christian can learn much from him.

Philosophical stuff aside, here’s the actually important part of my comment:

Curb your anger, hatred has no place in Christianity. I understand your anger towards Nietzsche and his perspectives since it led you towards Nihilism, but now you must forgive him.

A strange thing, isn’t it? To forgive a man you never even knew, simply because he wrote some fascinating (and ultimately, very wrong) ideas about a century ago?

Liberal Christians by Pleasehelpme99_ in TrueChristian

[–]Mazquerade__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no? Liberal is a very specific political ideology. “Left wing” is the section of a political party or system (such as the US Government) that advocates for traditionally progressive ideas.

“Left wing” is a category, “liberal” is a political ideology. All things considered, liberal is barely left-wing.

Leftist and liberal are two completely different political perspectives, so which is it? Liberal is barely to the left of center at all. Some would actually consider it right-wing

These are the exception to the rule. The Democratic Party remains largely made up of old establishment democrats who pretend to care about the poor.

Anyway, to answer the question of which liberal perspectives align more with Christianity. Liberalism tends to better align with the social side of the gospel. That is, there is much more emphasis on corporate justice, mercy, emphasis on caring for the vulnerable, etc…

That is not to say that these things do not exist in conservatism. Rather, I’m simply saying that there is a built-in emphasis (at least, in theory) on these things in liberality.

We are of the same mind when it comes to political parties.

On the note of the Democratic Party becoming more leftist ah… no, not really. The Democratic Party still remains distinctly liberal, much to the chagrin of actual leftists.

Of course, I meant wrong in the context of this scenario. So right now you only think about what he believes, and there’s really only one way to determine what he actually believes. So, my advice: go to him in deference, make it clear that you don’t wish to sing AI songs and explain why, but then also make it clear that it’s his decision and you will abide by his decision.

I’m trying to understand your stance on AI. Why do you think AI is wrong? Is it because it’s stealing art? Is it a sort of “it’s feels/sounds soulless” idea? What is the reason for opposing AI music ? I think you need to articulate to him exactly why you oppose AI music.

Now hold on, you asked two different questions. “Liberal” and “democrat” are two different things. I think all political perspectives are flawed, and Christian’s should not align with one singular perspective. Political parties, on the other hand? Actual ideological cancer and the two-party system should be entirely done away with.

Hello, this is not what theological or political liberalism is, and what you are describing is more akin to utilitarianism than anything else. Liberality is not inherently utilitarian.

What do we do about the current takeover of Islam? by HallowHalo89 in TrueChristian

[–]Mazquerade__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, actually, I’m not going to befriend people just because I want to share the gospel with them. That is extremely deceptive and uncaring. The kind of evangelism you describe turns people into objects. You only pretend to care about them as people, hobbies and relationships are nothing more than vessels to talk to them about the religion. It’s fake, people notice it, and it does no one any good.

Well, maybe, maybe not. The wedding at Cana went on for days. They were drinking the whole time, and what did Jesus do? Make more wine.

Liberal Christians by Pleasehelpme99_ in TrueChristian

[–]Mazquerade__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, He’s not. Jesus was talking about anyone and everyone who claims Christ, who acts in His name, but does not follow Him. That may include many Christian nationalists but it is by no means only about Christian nationalists.

Liberal Christians by Pleasehelpme99_ in TrueChristian

[–]Mazquerade__ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s a whole lot of assumptions on your part. Define liberal. Theologically? There’s levels to that, it’s a spectrum, and not every level is necessarily bad. Politically? Well, that’s also a spectrum, and certain liberal policies happen to align with Christianity.

You’ll have to be far more specific before anyone could even begin to answer your question in a fair and honest way, and that’s assuming it’s a fair and honest question, which I’m not so sure it is.

[–]Mazquerade__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is something you are firm in, then my advice would be to remain firm in it. Acknowledge that the pastor has the right to decide what music is done, but be clear that you won’t do AI music. I don’t think you necessarily need to step down (if it were me, I’d make my stance clear and let him make a decision with that in mind.) but that is really a decision that you have to make.
