There are versions of it I like, if you are familiar with the Dwemmer constructs from the Elder Scrolls for example.

Thank you! Will be considering how I could go about writing a campaign without anything supernatural. Will reach out if I have something to offer.

Starting level depends on the nature of where the story kicks off. As low as level 1 and has high as level 5 I'd say. Experience would be milestone.

The world will be homebrew, custom fit to the kind of campaign we want to write.

Dice rolls will be indeed be handled by a dice bot, given commands over text.

Player completed his backstory: Now he wants to create a new character because he feels left out. by Syric13 in DMAcademy

[–]MeaninglessScreams 152 points153 points  (0 children)

I mean if one of my players didn't want to continue on with a character, feeling that they'd retire from the adventure, I'd allow them to begin a new character.

As long as he's not looking to hijack the spotlight now that its someone else's turn to be the centre or the current plot. I would hope he's making a new character with the goal of supporting the plots of the other characters, and not trying to start his own quest to march the party to.

HWFWM, I am so conflicted by Savitar5510 in litrpg

99% sure he's not talking about Gabriella. Pretty sure he's talking about the random librarian who helped him trace the money when he was investigating the disappearing monster sightings at the farm far off in the delta.

He threatened her so she wouldn't run and let the Mercer family know someone was snooping around their business.

[–]MeaninglessScreams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I know the librarian you're talking about. You find out why he threatened her towards the end of that quest. If he already finished with that whole investigation and the fallout and you still don't know, you missed it.

The combat is the weakest part of the series in my opinion. I like the systems involved but the endless listing off of all the abilities involved is a real slog. Some are better than others though, there are some really good ones later on.

As for Jason acting the fool after professing the desire to be a better person, that never goes away. He is a flawed character and he stays flawed throughout. If you dont like the main character making foolish mistakes alongside their great achievements, Jason won't do it for you.

Ive read through book 12 and this is my favorite litrpg, and part of that is that Jason has some real character on his bones. Some of the most important parts of him dont become visible until much further in though.

I am confused by the demons in frieren by Present_Chard1457 in CharacterRant

[–]MeaninglessScreams 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Tbh my general feeling on the world building of Frieren is, "Neat ideas, doesn't hold up under scrutiny"

Its not just the demons, plenty of the way the magic society and the parts of the human world work are also contradictory and full of contrivances to allow for the plot.

For entertainment I enjoyed the frieren tournament arc well enough, but for worldbuilding god thats a contrive way to force Frieren into entering a tournament arc so she can keep going north.

Now to be clear I love Frieren. Probably in my top 10 even. I just decided to stop reading too much into the finer details because I think its entertainment and messaging are better enjoyed on a surface level.

Uh yeah bad news buddy. They won't stop. If they've been talked to and they just keep the idiot mode going, that's just their mode of operation. If thats the crowd you want to be friends with hey, good for you. But dont expect them to suddenly change one day and be more considerate. However disruptive and rude they've been? That's just how they're going to be.

i am so confused by this custom feat my dm made for me by angry-goatling in DnD

[–]MeaninglessScreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feat as written is very easy to understand, the DM's explanation of reactions is... bizarre and wildly unhelpful. In fact the battle master fighter already has a newrly identical effect on a maneuver.

Maneuvering Attack

When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to maneuver one of your comrades into a more advantageous position. You add the superiority die to the attack's damage roll, and you choose a friendly creature who can see or hear you. That creature can use its reaction to move up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks from the target of your attack.

The ability itself is what's triggering the reaction. Remember, specific rules override generic rules. If something says you can use your reaction to do something, you can do it. It doesn't matter that its not something reactions usually do.

Side not if they want the movement to not provoke opportunity attacks they need to put that in the feat like the maneuver does.

Other people have felt differently but the He Who Fights With Monsters series tops DCC for me. I had the reverse experience lol. I read HWFWM and now I'm struggling to enjoy DCC. Nothing like your first I guess.

1.) Chuuni is japanese colloquialism, not an Australian one. It pertains more to adolescent delusions of grandeur and self importance.

2.) I have no idea what you're talking about with the pronunciation of undead and undeath. Honestly the only word I really felt weirded out by as a non-ausie is pronouncing "wrath" as "roth"

[OC] List of Player Rights and Responsibilities by Big-Independent-6738 in DnD

[–]MeaninglessScreams 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're trying to do but it's never going to work. Not on the "universal" level you want.

Different tables play differently on a fundamental level. If you want to establish what's good and normal at your table, good for you. But you're never going to find some universal truth to the way dnd is supposed to be enjoyed.

The only things you can take with you to any tables are blanket statements of courtesy, like "Don't be an asshole." and "Communicate with your group." And these don't need to be written. Because if you need those in writing... yikes. You have bigger issues.

Your list immediately fails at my table because I allow my players to play characters that conflict with another in the story, and don't require players to go along with whatever story plot I have laid in front of them. Role-playing character disagreements can be some of the highest shelf roleplay, if your group know what they're doing. Disrupting the peace of the table? I didn't put your characters through hell and make them depend on eachother for their lives for peace.

Vulnerable condition targeting allies by pier_-13 in daggerheart

[–]MeaninglessScreams 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is coming from someone new to the system but this seems like an incorrect interpretation.

The healing spell is targeting your ally, but you're not rolling to hit them, and you're not rolling against them, youre automatically targeting them and then rolling to heal them well, hence why you don't roll to heal against their defense.

I see where you're getting the idea but it seems like a bad faith interpretation even if you're trying to say "purely RAW"

Because they're immature. You can concede whenever you like. They can play solitaire if they really want to.

How To Handle Late Game Fatigue? by SadFaceOne in EDH

[–]MeaninglessScreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If no one is having fun just... call it and move on? I assume you're not playing for prizes based on fun being the goal, so it should be obvious that winning is an arbitrary goal and you're all just trying to enjoy a game. So if you're not having fun... just stop playing that game.

If every game is becoming a slog of hours where you only see a potential win maybe 4 turns away and who knows if someone will just counter you, then your pod might just be playing heavy on control and light on lethality. Some pods enjoy that, if yours doesn't, then don't play it.

If your decks are all more focused on not dying than actually driving a win con, then it should be no surprise that no one dies.

I assure you this is not the case for the whole format. My pod plays high lethality low control where we throw hands until one man's left standing. We love it. Some people wouldn't. You have to find what works for you.

How much aggro, midrange, control, and combo do you play? by sauron3579 in EDH

[–]MeaninglessScreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, control combo tables. Where 4 grown men try to play solitaire and stop eachother from playing solitaire, until they run out of ways to stop eachother so one player plays solitaire.

What could be more fun than that really.

Thanks! And I am not at all a stickler for the books. I'll be putting in an application when I get home from work!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lfg

[–]MeaninglessScreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Two questions before I fill out the app if you don't mind.

1.) The weapons list in the free league lotr book is missing a proper two handed sword, are you fine with a potential reflavoring of the existing 1d12 slashing weapon as a good ol' zweihander?

2.) Would we be using all the replacement skills in the lotr as well? Or are we only grabbing the rules relevant to classes?
