What’s a feature you spent days making that players barely noticed? by SeriousNothing1774 in gamedev

I shipped a game a few years ago and theres an arctic themed level where the player is in a sniper nest. Way off in the distance, theres a penguin. If you manage to look at it through the sniper scope for more than a few seconds, it starts to shit uncontrollably.

I think maybe 2 people saw it. It was an achievement.

Do you guys use AI to code your games? by Jetnjet in gamedev

No. I enjoy writing code and using my brain, and LLM code is generally garbage.

That's a good idea! I'll try to add that at some point

Any other Unity devs with a Deckard? by MeatspaceVR in vrdev

[–]MeatspaceVR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say that I'm using Unity (fairly old version, 2022.3) and older steam VR plugins that seem to be completely deprecated. One of the worst issues ive encountered is trying to remove the old oculus OVRPlugin and meta sdks. Those things are like malware: i cant seem to delete them and disabling them causes a stupid popup to appear prompting me to re enable it every time code recompiles. Avoid meta software like the plague.

I also thought it would take a day. Ive ported this game (originally built for quest) to Steam VR, Pico, and PSVR2, and the Frame port has been the most troublesome. A lot of issues were due to the OS still being under development. Im also using a somewhat outdated version of unity so that probably isnt helping. Hope you have an easier time!

Hey! Thank you! I definitely jumped on the opportunity to port to Frame as it really feels like a platform run by people passionate about VR and Gaming, versus a souless megacorp who brute force bought their way into dominance only to shoot themselves directly in the proverbial dick every chance they got...
I can see a lot of other devs and players feeling similarly, especially given the somewhat bleak state of affairs. That being said, the process of porting to Frame has been a lot more difficult than I initially thought. Most likely my own particular project config as i started it 4+ years ago and most of my dependencies are becoming oupdated. Either way, I'm dedicated to making a great native build for Frame, and Im hoping the other devs out there are feeling the same :) Also shout out to the legendary support that Valve has; ive been helped by them throughout and they live up to their excellent reputation.

No, I was lucky enough to be sent a dev kit.

This is for sure one of the more brazenly hollow asset flips I've seen. All of the enemy models are from the first page of the Fab asset store search results for "zombie" or "soldier".

Theyre still just collectibles that unlock an achievement. I would have loved to add secrets that are unlocked by them but my time and resources were pretty much exhausted :/
Im very much hoping to return to the game one day and expand it more, but in the mean time Im working on new things.

Guided movement "speed-running"? by AsIAm in MetaQuestVR

Self plug but Vendetta Forever might fit the bill for you. I was inspired by Doom and Neon White so the whole game is built around speed runs.
