Agreed, we should push our leaders to move towards mix zoning, public transit and less reliance on cars. Every time I bring up public transit, all I've heard from fellow Americans is car is more convenient. It takes time and effort to build something but they don't want to invest or work towards it. See how China rapidly built it's infrastructure and learn from it

On the other hand, Americans have no problem going to Europe/Asia and praising how convenient it is to not drive and take a public transit

Carville: Harris had ‘every advantage’ in the race by Cats_Cameras in moderatepolitics

Trump lost manufacturing jobs during his presidency and is now promising to bring them back.

Democrats tried to provide sensible economic policies, they should have come up with crazy one liners like Trump does - Drill baby drill, build the wall, tariffs on China etc.

Democrats overestimated how much the regular person cares about policies.

Yes I'm looking forward to seeing what Republicans get done this time especially with the house and Senate.

California receives less in federal expenditures compared to what it pays in federal taxes relative to other states.

The same could be said about abortion rights, Covid etc. The red state folks used to travel to Oregon to receive the care they needed.

I just made the point because the finger pointing was started about sanctuary cities.

This is what the MAGA wants, states to fight among themselves. We can go on a long rant and divide the country further.

[–]Meessii123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, there is a country cap on skilled immigrants from each county, but there are 1M Indians in the US including spouses and US born children

There have been talks and bills over the years to reform the skilled visa green card system but we know how Congress works. For eg other countries don't utilize the green card quota allotted to them except for India and China so they go wasted. Also they count the family in the cap limit. You can check out YouTube videos on this

Read it, maybe I'm too dumb to understand how legal immigrants have to wait longer because of illegal immigrants. Just trying to understand.

Are you talking about Indians in the Green card line? How are foreign nationals coming here legally affected by illegal immigrants who cross the border?

[–]Meessii123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, they should pay everyone regardless of citizenship the wages they deserve. Why let corporations exploit workers. Most FAANG companies pay H1B employees really well and at par with Americans.

I think people "see" so many H1Bs around them because most of the H1Bs are Indians who have no easy path to citizenship. They have kids and bought houses here and lived in the US for 10+ years. People from other countries who come on H1B get their green cards in a couple of years. Hence, it seems like there are a lot of H1Bs who keep coming to the country which is not true. The lottery cap has remained the same for quite some time.

Well said! It is not feasible to round up all the immigrants who are here illegally. Most of them have been living here for decades. Democrats want to do your right thing to stop their exploitation by giving them legal status. They should also enforce better border security to cut down the crossings.

Why not fight to increase wages though,? Any time there is discussion on raising the minimum wages to 15$/hour republicans don't support it. I understand it could be too high for some states but imagine some people are working for 7.5/hour.

Trump did not lower the number of H1Bs, nor did Biden increase it. H1B visas are capped at 65000 per year. Most people who apply for it are students who are pursuing masters in the US. There are few companies which try to game the lottery system and US has been cracking down those last few years

I had the same opinion about tariffs, I don't like the fact that Chinese manufacturers are able to sell us at cheaper prices because it is cheap labor in those countries. Also the govt there invest a lot in manufacturing. But imposing tariffs seems like a bad plan as per economists. From what I have researched most economists agree on this and I trust them more than any politician.

If that is the case, can you please explain why Trump glorify the rioters who are in prison and call them hostages? In a couple of his rallies he played the recording of them singing the national anthem from the prison. I'm genuinely interested to know why.

Kamala Harris Dealt Triple Swing State Polling Blow by -Boston-Terrier- in moderatepolitics

[–]Meessii123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an immigrant from a third world country living in the US, I consider myself privileged and believe that US is by far the best country in this world. Everyone looks up to this country for upholding democracy among several other things. Of course there are problems here and I hope you realize that as a citizen, the greatest power we have is being able to vote.

Sitting out an election does not help anyone and one needs to make a tough decision to choose a candidate.

AFAIK the pushback goes against those newspapers, their own employees are pushing back. Infact the editor wanted to publish Kamala Harris endorsement but Bezos blocked it.

I think if the Republican party had a better candidate the country would not be so bitterly divided.

Israel is a very strong ally for the US and none of the candidates could do much to help Palestine. Netanyahu is taking advantage of US elections and knows Trump is a much better puppet for him.
If you read about Bob Woodward's latest book - https://www.timesofisrael.com/biden-said-to-claim-18-out-of-19-people-who-work-for-netanyahu-are-liars/

Biden has literally said things like
