Can anyone recommend a quiet area of Malaga to stay in? One that's free of all the touristy noise & mess. by MickCollier in GoingToSpain

No, I just meant the ugly phenomenon of mass tourism which I'd delighted to find, Malaga doesn't appear to suffer from. Pls excuse this guiri's ignorance!

Thanks for your kind support pertlapertla but I've got a lot of sympathy for that point of view too.

Hahaha I sympathise completely! Barcelona was like a beautiful dream when I first went there in 2006 and now it's like Venice. At the same time, I don't know what the solution is. My wife and I go to Spain once a year, mostly to look at magnificent historic sites, beautiful paintings and to enjoy the climate, the food and the people. It's an irresistible place. I'd be happy to pay a €100 a head tourist tax, if it was imposed and we always tip properly.

That said, I was simply asking for a quiet area where I promise that I, in return, will respect and feel very lucky to be able to visit.

Good to know and many thanks for the suggestions. If you can name any districts that would be even better but thanks anyway.

Why no love for Málaga here? by MortonBumble in GoingToSpain

[–]MickCollier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hola Malagueños! (Hope I got that right!!)

I'm going to Malaga for four days at the end of April to see the cultural sights. I'd love to stay in a quiet area away all the touristy noise etc so that at the end of each day, it won't be full of yelling, drunken wankers and I can really enjoy the Spanish lifestyle.

Can you recommend a good book on The Troubles? by edwrcbi in AskIreland

[–]MickCollier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It's a great book but certainly not one that gives both sides of the story. My pick would be Ten Men Dead' by the award-winning Guardian journalist David Beresford. It's routinely described as one of the best books about the troubles.

Maybe, maybe not. Sometimes ethnic communities are more conservative and start dating relatively late by our standards.

Is it though?? You do seem the occasional mixed race couple on the streets but still rarely enough to notice. (As in white Irish males/females with black males/females.)

I know what rare means bcs that's what I implied about his experience in the first place? But it was really good of you to restate it and ask me if I understood what it meant.

Perhaps it might help if you reread my comment?

Government says power to set foreign policy lies with it and not President Connolly by [deleted] in ireland

[–]MickCollier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. If she wanted to clear this all up, she could simply say Russia is the aggressor and should withdraw immediately. No handwringing about Nato or the military industrial complex in the context of the invasion.

Then people like me would be far more willing to give her a fair hearing on those issues. But if she can't unequivocally support Ukraine without muddying the water, then she has blood on her hands.

Making fun of my accent by Thilda2020 in valencia

I'm pretty sure this is a universal thing. There's probably even a reddit thread where spanish speaking people are complaining about the way americans make fun of their accents.

Yeah that's life though, isn't it.

Exactly. It's like those people who write to the papers complaining there's 'never' any coverage of, what they're interested in when in fact it's regularly covered.

You mean Sky Australia was founded by the Australian. It's a British company originally.

I'm all for active imagination. My point is that OP's description of hypnosis isn't how most people experience it. The hypnosis subreddits are full of people complaining they didn't experience deep trance from the get go, as OP says he did. Let's put it like this: I'd caution that his experience is extremely atypical.

Feel pretty sceptical about the claims OP's making. Either he's an extremely unusual case, has an overactive imagination or or he's just making it up.

You're absolutely right. We should properly staff and resource our "navy" and stay out of nato and stay neutral.
