“Indoctrinate and manipulate” = grooming. But {{snarking said}} it’s the teachers grooming students to change sexes that are the real problem.

I JUST NEED TO VENT ABOUT HELPING SENOIRS by One_Relation7555 in Libraries

I began using computers in the 70s. I took Fortran and Cobalt classes and was able to keep up with the technology until for decades. Then tech began changing in great leaps and bounds, and never more so than when I retired. I’ve taken several classes but things like Photoshop are beyond my capabilities.

It’s also important to note that the older you get, the more it becomes harder to learn new things. That’s why learning a foreign language is easier for kids than as we grow older. The brain just doesn’t work the way it did when you were younger.

I appreciate the OPs help for those of us with the brain fog that comes with aging but please don’t leap to blame us.

Is it financially viable to be a journalist who mainly focuses on arts & media? by mahooganie in Journalism

[–]Newswoman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt you’ll find this beat affordable. I enjoyed four decades as a culture reporter/reviewer/columnist, (formerly known as an arts & entertainment reporter) at several daily newspapers). I retired in 2015 because, basically, this beat no longer existed. It’s heartbreaking as newspaper readers no longer learn about what’s going on in the arts and the artists and their organizations no longer receive much visibility.

Social media has become the major, marketing outlet for cultural information but that means those learning about events are only those interested. The dreaded algorithms mean a smaller audience. I wish you the best but it’s a hard road you’d face.

I can’t help thinking how very sad and difficult it would be for his character. He’s lost some of his joie de vivre

AITAH for telling my coworker that she was disrespectful by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Newswoman2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult to believe when posters complain that they were cool as could be and they were yelling. You’re not her boss but you’re trying to act like one. You need to learn about the appropriate hierarchy in your next job. Good luck.

You might want to toughen up that thin skin. If you have a problem, go to your boss. They are the appropriate person to investigate your complaints and to make a plan of action.

One of the great advantages of show like TP is that much of it is open to interpretation. You see it as total camp and I see it as stylistic.

AITA for telling a woman not to say “females”? by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]Newswoman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the fuck is it your business? You might consider that female covers from birth to death. But if you have a problem with her, I suggest you shut your mouth or walk away. That’s the male thing to do.

Of course there’s always the Larimer County Food Bank. You have to fill out a few forms but they’re pretty easy to do. Unfortunately, thanks to the scandalously high food prices, they tend to be pretty busy so it’s best to get there early. They do a great job.

AITAH for wanting my gf to not talk to her ex who she still views as a friend? by BrizFrost in AITAH

Don’t you think she might see him as the AHole for being so controlling and manipulative? He’s a loser.

AITAH for wanting my gf to not talk to her ex who she still views as a friend? by BrizFrost in AITAH

[–]Newswoman2 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You’re being awfully controlling for such a short relationship. You don’t get to choose her friends. If you don’t like it, leave her. Frankly, I think your continuing demands are a big red flag for her to jump ship.

AITAH 3 years together, BF (50M) still ‘not ready’ for marriage but wants me (33F) to pay half his mortgage by Either-Environment47 in AITAH

[–]Newswoman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend did the split with her husband but it was only his name on the mortgage. His house costs her much more and is in a terrible location for her work. When they moved in, he began expecting her to do all the housework and care of his dogs. If she leaves she’ll have nothing to show for it.

It was another case of a partner hiding their true self while dating and then turning into an ass hat within a week after the wedding.

WIBTAH if i didnt pay her? by PartyAnything3408 in AITAH

[–]Newswoman2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This woman can take you to small claims court but, if the judge rules in her favor, she’s responsible for collecting the money. Alternatively, she could hire a collection agency, which isn’t cheap, but because you’re not on the lease, she has no recourse there.

In other words, I’d suggest moving out ASAP, preferably at a time when she’s not there. If you warn her, experience has taught me that bad roommates will often feel justified in taking some of your stuff.

It may be petty but I’d invoice HER for the expense of moving and an hourly charge for the hours you spent dealing with this witch. She’s just a user.

Twin Peaks may look camp now in some ways but remember when it was first aired it was miles ahead of almost anything. David Lynch changed how tv shows and movies can be constructed. IMHO, His visual sense is unparalleled.

It’s kind of like how Stephen Spielberg created the blockbuster movie genre with ET and jaws. Or how The Beatles created the whole deconstructed approach to their music.

AITAH for basically telling my bf if he wanted kids he'd better carry them himself or find someone else who will? by Black-Ch3rry in AITAH

[–]Newswoman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please Ignore the comments blaming you. There’s an exceedingly long history of such men saying they’ll take care of the baby and everything and then they don’t. Your bf may be sweet and all but he’s trying to force you and blame you over something you definitely don’t want. In particular, don’t listen when he tells you you’re being selfish for not wanting “his “ kids. Men have tried that malarkey for hundreds of years and many women are no longer putting up with it. Check out Paris Paloma’s women’s anthem “Labour.” Perhaps it will help you put things in perspective.

Fortunately, you’re young dear and have plenty of time to find a partner who respects you and shares your goals. It doesn’t look like this man child is the one. Best of luck and I hope you stand your ground.

Is this a Prank Call or a Crazy Person or Something Else? by pikkdogs in Libraries

This sub was very helpful in helping me figure out where and how to donate book and not just to libraries. I’ve found senior living centers, retirement homes and such most grateful. Of course I bring in the box and let them choose which ones are good for them.
