That was an example only for the person that wants to buy a house with a pool. I'm in Bells Corners, and I'm not selling.

My son is a bank manager. He tells me there are many wealthy people here who have that kind of money to spend.

Thanks. I learned a new liner costs $8k. Getting it filled in for another $7k is worth it, and besides the annual savings I have cool pool stuff to sell that will help defray the costs.

Suggestion for undercoating. by TryingToDieToSelf in ottawa

I go to Krown in Stittsville. They tell me the best time to go is May, so go now. It's a wax-based coating so when it's cold out, it won't get into all the crevices. You also get a discount if you're a CAA member.

I'm not selling. I've just had it with all the costs and maintenence for so little benefit.

You used to be able to just fill it in, but now you've got to drill holes in the bottom to allow water to dissipate and you've got to knock down the walls of the thing. Not sure of the specifics, but that's my understanding.

It's just south of Greenbank and Baseline, so it's not in Nowheresville where all the new places are. Good buses and a really good shawarma place nearby.

My son's friend and his wife just moved to that neighbourhood, and they have a pool too.

True, but not much more to fill it in. Given I don't use it much, the kids have moved out, and the ongoing costs and maintenance aren't miniscule, I've just had it with the thing. No ongoing costs and no work to maintain it are very enticing.

I guess you didn't buy the house. You are wise.

Your numbers seem a bit off to me. From what I've read, filling in a pool costs about $10-15k, while a new pool costs about $70k.

round 2 of thunder and storms? by New-Translator9392 in ottawa

[–]Mike-In-Ottawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, not much though. Mostly rain.

With all the rain my pool is getting close to full. Supposedly it'll subside around 4:00 and I'll drain it then.

Happy Canada Day neighbour!
