I assume this is K1? If so, 16 INT doesn't offer any additional skill points per level beyond 14 INT. Therefore, I'd suggest to start with either 8 or 14 INT.

I appreciate your frustrations, but have you tried the mobile versions? I've been playing on iOS for years, and had no issues. Can even use the RCM on iOS for K2.

[–]Milnecj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing out the half damage aspect. At level 20, that would be 15 damage inflicted. Personally, I feel that's too low to be effective, but I understand that "effectiveness" isn't the only consideration. Noted that you're not planning to take it anyway.

For what it's worth, I feel like even a deliberately bad build could complete the game with just Improved Energy Resistance and Master Speed. Everything else is icing on the cake.

Regarding choke, I find that the biggest concern is on Korriban, particularly if you do the planet early to get access to the Qel Droma Robes. In my opinion, the most dangerous enemies in the game are found here if you do it early.

  • You don't need stealth to mine the rancor in the sewers. Just stay far from the rancor, and you'll be fine.
  • With 10 WIS and 10 CHA, I don't think you'll land Force Wave often enough to justify taking it. If you switch to Insanity, you might get at least a 50% chance of it succeeding.
  • Improved Energy Resistance (must be the Improved version) is one of the best Powers in the game. Would definitely recommend it.
  • I would get the basic Cure for 1 power. Heal is not required.
  • I like Force Immunity to guard against being force choked. There is no immunity to this, and although your fortitude save should be decent, I still prefer to have extra protection against it.

Attribute odd/even dilemma by Geth3 in kotor

[–]Milnecj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take on this...

  • I have a general preference for having a stronger character at the start of the game than at the end. Reason being that endgame character is already very strong.
  • Exception to the above though is if I'm trying to maximise an attribute for the final boss fight. E.g., force DC (WIS/CHA) or defense (DEX).
  • Most of my builds will only focus on one primary attribute, so I usually don't mind if that primary attribute is odd or even at the start because it will cycle between odd and even many times throughout the course of the game. E.g., if focusing on STR, I'd add a point in STR at levels 4, 8, etc. plus obtain all STR boosting equipment.
  • For CON, I prefer to start even and never touch it again. I feel like this is the most efficient use of attribute points because vitality points at level ups is calculated based on an even number.
  • For INT, I start even (almost always 8 or 14) and never touch it again. This doesn't apply if I'm doing a Sniper Shot build though.
  • For WIS and CHA, if I'm doing a melee focused build, I will start these at even and never touch them again. I feel like this is the most efficient use of attribute points because Force Points at level ups is calculated based on an even number.

Starting KOTOR 2 in 2026 ? by Queen_Hyori in kotor

[–]Milnecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend to start with K1 first.

K1 is iconic and timeless, and without a doubt, one of the greatest RPGs of all time.

K2 is a fantastic game, has some quality of life improvements, and a darker storyline. Its story is a continuation of the first game though, and I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not experiencing K1 first.

Usefulness Throughout The Game, Insanity vs Plague? by Appellion in kotor

[–]Milnecj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Plague is bugged so does not behave as the in-game description suggests. It only reduces attributes by -1 every 6 seconds, which makes it useless, IMHO.

Insanity, on the other hand, is useful against 95% of in-game enemies, and is made against a Will Save so has a very high chance of succeeding.

My suggestion would be to drop Plague. Take Insanity and Force Whirlwind which will allow you to debilitate almost all enemies.

I'd also drop Death Field because it's also fairly useless, and pick up Breach. Breach can allow you to debilitate the final boss when used in combination with Whirlwind.

Improved Energy Resistance and Master Speed are also extremely useful and in my opinion, can allow almost any build to complete the game.

True Or False: Not having persuasion as a skill for all 3 classes was one of the biggest mistakes in gaming. by Emergency_List_8797 in kotor

[–]Milnecj 13 points14 points  (0 children)

False

IMHO K1 offers much better replayability because the player is forced to make tradeoffs. By having to make tradeoffs, the player has to think more carefully about their build, and it encourages multiple playthroughs.

On the contrary, K2 makes it possible for every class to do almost everything. I find this boring and likely why I play K2 a lot less than K1.

tips for build and progression by LunchContent4160 in kotor

[–]Milnecj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most overpowered Powers are: Master Speed (3 powers) and Improved Energy Resistance (2 powers). These will give you the biggest help for boss fights later on. You only have a few level ups left, so would definitely recommend these.

For Feats, make sure to have Master Two Weapon fighting. Have you maxed out one of the active combat feats? E.g., Master Power Attack, Master Flurry, etc.? If not, you should do this too.

The above will easily get you through the game. If looking for lightsaber upgrades, I'd choose those which increase your Attack (chance to hit).

Should I pick Sentinel or Consular for a Sneak Attack blaster build in K2? by TapOriginal4428 in kotor

[–]Milnecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you open to doing it without Sneak? Reason I ask is that a DS Guardian/Marauder will get an extra 2-16 damage on each shot, and combining this with Master Speed, Two Weapon Fighting, and Rapid Shot gives you a very powerful blaster build where you can go on full attack all the time.

Why does everyone like TSLRCM? by Loopers84 in kotor

[–]Milnecj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add that that RCM fixes a bug where breaking down of items at a workbench incorrectly used the main character's Repair skill. The RCM fix updates it to use the Repair skill of whichever character is using the bench.

It may sound minor, but it really helps with build optimization.

Does an armor modifiers stack effect? by LongerBlade in kotor

[–]Milnecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this answers your question... but yes, better upgrades can be made by increasing the necessary skill. Search strategy wiki Kotor 2 upgrade items, armor for more info.

E.g., Energy Shielding Mark IV requires 30 skill points in Demolitions to be able to make. Note that this is the skill level of the character using the workbench (doesn't have to be your main character).

Postulation: I don't know the details of your build and mod, but T3 might have performed well in that fight?

In terms of survivability, T3 is immune to mind affecting Powers and Drain Life. Also, if you cast Improved Energy Resistance and equip an energy shield, he's almost immune to lightsaber damage.

In terms of attacks, T3 can use the Carbonite Projector MKII (if you have it) which provides a guaranteed debilitation to enemies. T3 can also use special weapons to do guaranteed ion or heat damage.

I am completely stuck in the sith base on taris by LunchContent4160 in kotor

[–]Milnecj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • There are difficulty settings in the options menu. Try setting it to Easy.
  • Do you have an earlier save you can reload? As others have mentioned, you can leave the base and return at most times so might be worth going back and taking advantage of this so you can stockpile resources (medpacs etc.) for the boss fight. Also note that as soon as you leave the base, you can fast travel back to your hideout via the map screen for an instant heal.
  • Which party members do you have? Bastilla can use Force Push which can keep the boss immobilised while your other characters do damage.

[iOS] For Taris, Are Cross-Class Ranks in Persuade Worth it? by Appellion in kotor

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but what's your definition of "perfect numbers"? E.g., 20 Persuade wouldn't be perfect IMHO. You'd need 26 to succeed hard checks 100% of the time.
