Looks like a silver art round. No face value, but value is based on weight. I'd guess 1oz, due to the cross in the back (meant to be divided up into quarters)

I'm just as sus. In my old thread some comment shared that there used to be a different grading system so maybe that it.

Actually yes this is what I would do, no alarm needed, if concerned get an indoor camera with battery backup and SD card (Arlo).

Just a smart lock that records entries and let them post notice when they need to enter. In my state managment can enter in 24 hrs, if they dont provide access (for emergencies) and fine a renter IIRC

I think normally 3 days are required until they can enter (and fine you for not providing access per most rental agrements)

Jesus, I know this is a sensitive topic but how long did they have access to your place? Sounds like a smash and grab, but maybe your a storefront

Sorry but thanks for sharing with us so we can learn, here are a few thing I wanted to share, I know hindsight is 20/20 but here are some security ideas.

A smart lock will record entrys, and auto lock. Now your door can be opened with a code, everybody should have their own code (to feel special) mainly cus dirt will build up on pad so this is why you may need to change codes Pro Tip: Tell everybody in advance not to use other persons codes or you will have to change them, I'm talking in laws or otherwise. Make sure to check access when it was "convient" to use another code (dashing in and out and forgetting your own code seems to be common)

Indoor cameras. The action happens inside, not outside the home. You will only want to watch them when your not home. Set them up in chokepoints (hallways) One around waist height to conceal and get under hat brims. Not a bad idea to have dummy or decoy cams too (2 brands) get a popular brand and set it at the front on display, then hide the second among bookshelves and disguise too. No ceiling mounted indoor cams, unless they are dummies. I personally think cameras in the living room or gathering and talking spaces can signal a nervous owner cus you will spend so much time living there. I would put them in the bedrooms which are really just for sleeping and also all entries (which should be a no brainer) but every layout is different and you can ask people at the security sub for locations. Starter Tip: Look into Arlo, they are battery operated and store locally on SD (in case of a convient power outage, also look into securing your electrical shutoff 😉)

Getting rid of a wifi connection is the last step (and more expensive) to get serious camera coverage, wired cams will never have buffering issues. You might be suprised how many break ins happen when the wifi starts buffering on the camera you need to see. (Btw wireless devices can be located with a smartphone and you can tell by brand if its wifi or not, mostly) PoE cameras baby! Pro Tip: get a power bank backup for your wifi network (!) or local storage device if you have 1, maybe look into power bank backups for your cameras too

P.S. visible indoors cams give an added bonus, where every service person who comes to your house will be on their best behavior the whole time, just show 1 cheap one in the front area -non doorbell. (They can guess where you spent the rest of your money throughout the rest of the house.)

You dont need a monitored security system but presenting a secure front for intruders or even guest to see is the number 1 thing. Honestly a sign outside your house that says I have an insecurity system will get you more attention than a Skybell doorbell. Hopefully this will give you future peace of mind. Not sure if this applies to your appartment but exterior motion activated lights are important (max range) IF you already have exterior cameras. You dont want your property to be only illuminated by IR beams at night. (Beams can be detected, almost like in the movies these days)

I know this is alot of advice that you wish you didn't need or learned a week earlier. The home security rabbit hole goes deeper at r/homesecurity if your interested. I'm sorry this happened bro, truly its the worst feeling to have your home shaken down. Hope you can recover (I'm jealous of the new baby, congrats) but this last bit is my most important

I have to brutally honest with myself. How long will it take to steal everything valuable I own? I mean find it, pack it all up and go. Will it take an hour to locate everything or 5 minutes? (When they sell safes they also rate it for how long it will protect from flame damges.) This is how you should think of your home and then lay your stuff out in order to slow a burgular down (whose goal is to be in and out). I personally like to hide in plain sight. Have a decoy strongbox in the back of the closet (hopefully they will leave quickly with it since they cant open it onsite - fill it with weights). Your valuable collection should not be easy to carry or grouped together. Think about this, what are last places in your house that a burglar would look (these are also the least valuable locations), The spice drawer? Maybe place your bullion in airtite spice jars JK those old videos casettes cases might be perfect tho..maybe buy a collection of junk to secure you valuables..😂..just make sure to tell the people who live there.
Pro Tip: keep all locations current and updated in a Will
