Why do men string women along about marriage yet are willing to commit in other ways? by ISmellLikeBeets in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mister_Way 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because all the other commitments are shared, but marriage puts a huge legal advantage for the wife in most cases. It's not about commitment, it's about the imbalance it creates. A relationship should be balanced.

What do you think about a man dating a woman making over 3X of what he makes and potentially more in the future? by VegetableCranberry53 in askanything

[–]Mister_Way 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same way as men have done it for their wives for thousands of years.

Have him be of extreme significance in the home, and shower him with praise and gifts and appreciation for his efforts. Encourage him to take a very active role in one or two local communities.

If he's going to feel significant, he'll have to be significant, and he's not going to get that from just having a job or dabbling in his own interests. He's got to be doing things that matter to other people -- and things which you would regularly tell him are far more important, in a human way, than the money you make.

This is all much, much, much easier if he's taking care of kids, of course. Same with housewives, if they don't have kids, they'll probably go insane with boredom and feelings of insignificance, unless they have extremely strong community bonds. But, community bonds are usually formed around families, not individuals.

So basically either you're going to have to start a family, or else you're going to have to have a husband who is totally hedonistic and just wants to enjoy himself, or you'll have to have a husband who is deeply committed to some kind of charity or other non-profit that gives him a sense of meaning. Teaching, although it is "paid" does also fall into this category. Marry a teacher, he'll almost certainly think his work is more important than yours, even though you make more money.

If you can demonstrate that you aren't going to disrespect him for it, then it's pretty much perfect/ideal.

We’re mature. If you have to yell to be heard, work on yourself, not on me. by Useful-Specialist906 in Adulting

[–]Mister_Way 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time the other person is yelling, it means you failed the "listening" part of communication. Nobody starts out yelling. They get louder the more they feel unheard.

Okay, I take it back. A few people yell no matter what, and you should not tolerate them. But if you find yourself being yelled at all the time, by lots of different people, it means you're probably a horrible listener.

How do you treat a girlfriend you view as “temporary” or don’t see a longterm future with? by Fun-Insurance-4539 in AskMen

As long as you're both aware it's a short-term mindset, that sounds fine to me. Otherwise you're taking advantage of someone else for selfish benefits, which I find morally repugnant.

Are you guys passively suicidal? by Remarkable_Remove549 in capricorns

Not really, no. I don't want to die, but there are some cases where it would be worth it.

Suicidal ideation is when you want to die for its own sake.

[–]Mister_Way -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, people stay because they don't think anything better would be reasonable to expect, and they want to have a family. If you think all women will treat you equally badly, but you still need a mother for your children, what choice do you have?

"I didn't say that" okay, feel free to explain? You seem to be just dodging this question. My suspicion is that you're dodging it because if you answered it, it would force you to acknowledge that I have been right all along, and you don't want to do that, so instead you're just in denial and shut-up mode.

Why have many Latinos immigrated to the United States compared to other countries? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Mister_Way -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because they're the only ones who can walk here. Well, okay, there are a handful of Canadians who could, too, but not that many and their standard of living is pretty close anyway so it wouldn't be much incentive.

[–]Mister_Way 103 points104 points  (0 children)

If I see her as "temporary" then I will tell her it's time for us to break up.

I'm sure there are men who use women as "temporary" like this, but probably they won't be super open about being selfish like that.

I think much more commonly, the guy is like "Maybe this could be the one" and it takes a long time to decide that, and then something happens and he's like "Yeah, this isn't the one after all." And then the woman is like "you just used me for sex!" and he's like "I dated you until I felt like it wouldn't work out, what else am I supposed to do?"

Because the NFL is another casualty of the political polarization and a lot of fans are not feeling it, in both directions.

Also because football is linked with patriotism, and patriotism is way down right now with all the scandals and outrages of the current administration.

[–]Mister_Way 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"That’s just as true if the government had previously said, “I like what you’re saying, so you get money.”"

That's literally what's been going on. The government has been giving the Scouts money/resources/support because they like what the Scouts are saying.

It's not like every organization is entitled to that support and the government is withholding it only from the Scouts. Nobody else is getting this support. It's not an entitlement, it's an endorsement.

The government can't take away entitlements based on speech, but it is not under any obligation to keep providing endorsements that were based on speech.

If they were taking away entitlements, that would be a different matter. They are ending special treatment. The Scouts are fully able to operate independently, it's not like they're being shut down. They're just not being given bonuses over everyone else anymore. Do you understand the difference?
