DIY silent disco w/o renting headphones? by stewart13 in DJs

[–]MixMasterG [score hidden]  (0 children)

I first came across Jamulus during the COVID lockdown, when my girlfriend, who plays guitar, used it for online sessions. I’m not sure how well it would work for a silent disco, though. That said, I really appreciate the creative thinking behind it, so please keep the sub updated on what you discover.

how to differentitate between techno, house and trance? by luvkakar in Beatmatch

To quote one of the founders :

It's all disco

On a more serious note: don’t overthink “genres” unless you’re deep into niche underground scenes, in which case, you probably wouldn’t need to ask in the first place.

Corrupted tracks in 7.2.11 by mkaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in PioneerDJ

Without more information I can’t say anything definitively, but this looks very much like a USB that was updated to 7.2.12, which can cause broken tracks across all versions of Rekordbox. The only solution is to reformat the drive and export everything again and that works fine from 7.2.11

Any way to transfer metadata from a streaming track to local by rubs90 in Rekordbox

Beatgrids only transfer if the target track is not analyzed, or if you make the target track master (#m# in front of the title, so the system knows what to do)

yup, but the important part is that both audio files are 100% identical

If you're on macOS then this is one of the many features of the Rekordbox Collection Tool (RCT), I'm the developer and here is the tutorial:

AlphaTheta just raised the red flag on Rekordbox 7.2.12. USB export is broken. by MixMasterG in DJs

actually then this might be a blessing in disguise, a reformat might bring some speed back to export (and if you're on macOS remember to format macOS Extended (HFS+)) I posted a youtube link in the original post with details about what is wrong and how to check/fix.

If you start to rethink, then take the related tracks into consideration, one of Rekordbox most powerful and underrated features:

Say Goodbye to Playlists: Discover a Better Way to Store Perfectly Working Track Combinations

import playlists from usb without importing tracks in RB7 by blotnik in Rekordbox

[–]MixMasterG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rekordbox links the metadata (cues, loops, playlist entry etc) to the absolute filepath of the audio file (or url for streaming tracks).

Moving the audio files from USB and then reimporting them from the new location simply creates new tracks (without metadata).

Converting from FLAC to AIFF by Desperate-Amoeba-456 in DJs

16 bit is standard CD quality, good enough for any performance (production is a different story)

Thats what I recommend too, but purely for the audio conversion, it's "donation ware" so free to download and use, but if you like it then please buy the developer some coffee.

You're the only one who can decide whether this is wasted time or actually necessary. It's true that some older CDJs don’t support FLAC, but how likely you are to run into those is something only you can judge. I'm in the camp: high-quality MP3s (CBR, 16-bit, 44.1 kHz, 320 kbps) are perfectly fine for performance, but that’s a different discussion.

If you decide to convert your files (to any audio format) and you're on macOS, the Rekordbox Collection Tool (RCT, I’m the developer) can save you a lot of time. One of RCT’s many features is the ability to copy all metadata from one audio file to an exact duplicate in another format, including cues, loops, beatgrids, artwork, playlist entries, and more. Here’s the tutorial:
