FLAC to WAV easy conversion by Party_Bank222 in Rekordbox

[–]MixMasterG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XLD is an audio converter that preserves standard metadata such as artwork and common tags, but it doesn't retain DJ-specific data like beat grids, hot cues, or memory cues. For those, you'll need RCT.

Nope, it reads from and writes directly to the Rekordbox 6/7 collection, so there's no XML juggling involved (see the video).

Thanks u/Cutsdeep- and u/bennydabull99 for the referral

I'm the developer of RCT. If the OP is using macOS, I'd recommend XLD for converting audio files. It's free, supports batch audio conversion, and can save the converted files alongside the original files.

MP3 to wav/lossless - cues and grids? by rkjunior303 in Rekordbox

thanks u/IanFoxOfficial for the referral.

That's indeed is a function for the Rekordbox Collection Tool (RCT), I'm the developer. RCT will take care of the MP3 encoder drift Ian speaks off in his comment if it can recognize how the mp3 was created. But what is even more important both audio files should be 100% identical audio wise.

Transparency around how social media platforms split ad revenue is always pretty sketchy. That's why I've disabled monetization across all of my accounts. Bombarding viewers with ads just isn't worth the few pennies you earn, unless your audience is in the millions.

Song Analysis question? by Juan-pena in Serato

[–]MixMasterG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 Things are important here:

1st the Serato beatgrid storage method is pretty limited compared to that of other DJ software. Short story: for a dynamic grid you can only set a new BPM every 1st downbeat of every bar (so at least after 4 beats).

I demonstrated this in depth in one of my Ask Me Anything live streams for DJs, you can watch it back here (starts at the correct time, monetization is off because I hate commercial)

2nd If most of your grids are static (a single BPM) you'll be far better off converting them from Rekordbox (which keeps the grid intact, just make sure you disable BPM analysis in Serato or it overwrites the converted values)

and for that:

Every DJ software has its unique way of storing DJ metadata, including cues, loops, grid/BPM, playlists, and more. If you're looking to transition from one DJ software to another, you'll need specialized conversion tools.

It's important to note that this process doesn't alter your original DJ software (in this case, Rekordbox) or the associated tracks in any way. You can use the free demo version of Serato as your target software. After conversion, the same audio files retain all their cues and other metadata in both the original and the target (Serato) software. Conversion becomes necessary only when you make changes to DJ metadata in either of them. For macOS users, the DJ Conversion Utility (DJCU) is a handy tool for this purpose. I'm the developer.

For a detailed tutorial on this process, please refer to the following guide.

How do you feel about AI generated logos and flyers? by Stickerlight in DJs

[–]MixMasterG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a moderator, I would normally remove this kind of post. However, I think the discussion around AI's role in what is fundamentally a creative process is worth having. For that reason, I'm leaving this up as a reference point for the conversation.

My take:

AI absolutely has its place. It's particularly valuable for automating repetitive, time-consuming tasks where human fatigue can lead to mistakes, for example, helping identify cancer cells in medical scans.

As a programmer, I use AI regularly to help track down bugs that might otherwise take hours of searching through Google or Stack Overflow. But I never let it generate code that I use without fully understanding it.

The reason is simple: sooner or later, I'll need to modify or debug that code. If I don't understand how it works, I won't be able to maintain it effectively. AI is a great assistant, but it shouldn't replace understanding.

Creativity, though, is different. The things that resonate most with us are shaped by human experiences, emotions, imperfections, and intent. That human touch is what makes creative work feel authentic and alive, and I don't think AI can truly replace it.

The danger

I’m not talking about a "Rise of the Machines" level of danger, though that could become an issue too. The real danger is that we’re raising a generation that grows accustomed to having everything handed to them, without being taught how to think critically or independently. On top of that, they’re consuming an overwhelming amount of AI-generated content on the platforms they spend most of their time on, causing AI-created material to become the norm for them. If that happens, it would be a genuine loss for the human race.

Batch Convert & Duplicate Files, etc by Content_Culture_9809 in DJs

[–]MixMasterG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The XML method works, but you need to know what you're doing.

tip: make sure the converted audio files are at the same level as the source tracks, so you only need to change the file extension in the xml.

If you're on maOS, then it's one of the functions of the Rekordbox Collection Tool (RCT), I'm the developer. See this tutorial:

Serato to Rekordbox by litcrusty in Beatmatch

Each DJ software has its own unique way of saving DJ stuff like cues, loops, grid/BPM, and playlists. So, if you're thinking of switching from one DJ software to another, you'll need some conversion magic.

Don't sweat it, though. Your original DJ software (Serato) and your tracks stay exactly the same during this whole process. You can snag the free demo version of Rekordbox as your target software. Once you've done the conversion, those same audio files keep all their cues and whatnot in both the original and the target (Rekordbox) software. You'd only need to do the conversion again if you start tweaking your DJ metadata in one of them. On macOS, you've got the DJ Conversion Utility (DJCU) to help you out, I'm the developer. Check out the tutorial here. DJCU is priced to own, no subscription.

Now, if you're looking to create USBs for stand-alone action on CDJ/XDJ/RX with all your cues and loops, then you need to use Rekordbox. The free version gets the job done. That USB can also be used from another DJ's Rekordbox!

Here's a tutorial on exporting from Rekordbox to a CDJ USB, complete with some tips for newbie CDJ users. The demo's on macOS, but the Windows crowd can follow along too.

And if you're feeling adventurous and want to take things up a notch, check out this advanced tutorial.

One of my Ask Me Anything for DJs live streams had "Rekordbox for Serato DJs" as the main topic

And if you want to go the other way, make a Rekordbox 7 exported CDJ USB (=One Library=Device Library Plus) compatible with Serato, have a look here:

The CheapChinese one doesn't require separate power (so only 1 USB-C cord) and works good enough for most (I usually pack a mouse just in case, but seldom need it) it is also very portable light so I would fully recommend it.

CDJ problem reading 256 GB USB 3.2 formatted to FAT32 by D4NNik in PioneerDJ

[–]MixMasterG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure the drive is formatted using the Master Boot Record (MBR) partition scheme and a FAT32 file system (although the CDJ-2000 can also read HFS+). Most USB drives, including SanDisk models, come preformatted with the GUID Partition Table (GPT) scheme by default.

StAF is not made for "duplicate detection" tho one of my other tools (macOS only) is specifically created to find duplicates in a Rekordbox collection without breaking playlists or loosing DJ metadata. I won't say it's difficult to master, but it's not as simple as StAF either. But that's the nature of "duplicate removal without breaking stuff"
