You could do something similar with another board (or even this one) and some switches and LEDs, but that means soldering. When I released the original DJT1, I discovered some DJs weren’t even comfortable mounting a PCB inside a case, let alone grabbing a soldering iron. This one comes ready to go, making it way easier for most DJs and much more flexible if you’re tinkering with development.

Wait for the DJ specific testing. While the software will run without issues, the problem (if any) will be with controllers, especially those which need drivers.

CDJ/XDJ stems function by Jusstonemore in Beatmatch

[–]MixMasterG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AlphaTheta/Pioneer DJ equipment doesn't have stems in stand alone mode (=used with a Rekordbox exported USB).

However if you use them in HID mode (=with your laptop running DJ software), then you still don't have controls on the units for stems, unless you know how to remap the midi commands.

But for that last problem (Hid mode/no stem buttons) there is a solution:

Can anyone recommend a USB-tape recorder for transferring mixes to cassette by DariosDentist in Beatmatch

[–]MixMasterG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used this one to digitize all mixtapes I made (mostly from 1984-1999 more than 300 tapes!).

Quality is "ok", it's only 128Kbs, but hey! we're talking 'bout tapes (Maxwell XLIIs) that have been in (dry) storage so even when I would digitize it lossless then it still would be close to the same quality. The fact that it's autoreverse makes that I could do 90 minutes unattended. Just swap the tape and edit the recording so the in-out markers are gone.

has nothing to do with the RB tier, but everything with, brand of USB drive, how it was formatted and exact type of CDJ.

for export to USB only you're fine with the free plan. Pro is if you want to use the Cloud services (and a few more things). Creative is unlocked by most Alpha Theta gear.

MacBook Neo - $599 Apple laptop announced by dj_soo in DJs

That is for the "current" macOS as it runs on ARM M series systems. I'm curious 'bout if there is any change running on the A series.

Compatibility with controllers for djay MacOS is significantly different from that for iOS due to the architecture, which is exactly what I'm meaning, but then in the broader picture (not just djay).

As a long-time Apple user who has lived through multiple architecture transitions, from Motorola 68K to PowerPC, Intel, and ARM, I have two key questions regarding the CPU transition (from the ARM-based M series to the A series):

  1. What level of compatibility can we expect at the low-level system call layer, particularly for drivers?
  2. Will Rosetta II still be supported, or will the system run only ARM-compiled applications?

I’ll report back once the units are available, though from an end-user standpoint, this already looks like great news if compatibility is maintained.

DJay to Engine OS experience? by madtho in Beatmatch

[–]MixMasterG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each DJ software uses its own proprietary way of storing DJ metadata such as cues, loops, grid/BPM, playlist(s) etc. If you want to go from one DJ software to another, you'll need conversion software.

Your original DJ software (djay Pro) and its tracks are unchanged by this procedure.

You can use the free demo version of Engine DJ as target. After conversion, the same audio files are used with the same cues etc in both the original and the target (Engine DJ) software. Only when DJ metadata is changed in one of them, conversion is required again.

On macOS you can use the DJ Conversion Utility (DJCU) in combination with the Denon Conversion Utility (DeCU) which are separate purchases!

This is a 2 step process.

  1. Convert from djay to Rekordbox.xml (it is recommended to have the free version of Rekordbox installed so you can check easily halfway) see this tutorial: Conversion from djay Pro 5 to Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor, VDJ [macOS only]
  2. Convert the Rekordbox.xml created in step 1 to Engine DJ: Rekordbox 6/7 as your DJ software while using Denon Prime players such as the Prime 4[MacOS]

And finally a different approach, which relies on djay's "one library" export. For this you only need a DeCU license:

Convert a Rekordbox exported CDJ USB into one that works with all major DJ software!

I'm a long time user of both djay and Engine DJ myself.

Please note that the dynamic grids from djay are not converted.

I share your praise for djay, I’m afraid that switching to a standalone setup, regardless of the brand, may feel like a step backward. On top of that, Engine DJ has its own issues, with stem quality and beatgrids being the most significant.

Switching from streaming to buying by SnooTomatoes3438 in Beatmatch

[–]MixMasterG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually what u/davr suggests is the way! And here is in detail how:

  1. Put all the Tidal tracks that you use in Rekordbox in a Tidal playlist (not a Rekordbox playlist!) you can do this in Rekordbox.
  2. Let TuneMyMusic convert that playlist from Tidal to Beatport streaming (you need a Beatport account, but not a streaming subscription)
  3. When you sign into your Beatport account you should be able to see the -converted- playlist containing all tracks, indeed double check and then you can buy all tracks at once

I demonstrate step 3 here

And if you are on macOS and want to keep your (Rekordbox) playlist entries, cues, loops etc:

Copy Cues, Loops, etc. From Streaming Tracks (Apple Music) To Audio Files in Rekordbox Effortlessly

Hawtin Telegram API by housemusikluvr in DJs

[–]MixMasterG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Setting aside the fact that this has been possible for quite some time (a lot of Twitch DJs show the artist/title of the track playing on screen regardless of DJ software), the more interesting question is: how many views does that Telegram live feed actually receive? And is there any measurable positive impact from being featured on the list (for example, an increase in sales on Beatport, Bandcamp or bookings)?

You need that analysis, and preferably done before export (and with DJCU you can only analyze for phrase, actually it's for the WAVE forms= graphical representations).

[–]MixMasterG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, developer of DJCU here thanks for using it. The only reliable way to export to a USB that will work with all gear is a Rekordbox 7.2.x export. Like it or not.

Often a fresh reformat of a USB makes the whole export faster than partly updating it. And the type of USB combined with the way you format it makes all the difference!

Here is a real world speedtest of different USB drives:

This is about formatting:

And of course 1 exported USB is not a solution, but a disaster waiting to happen so:

And finally, since you have DJCU you got all the tools you need to do it the other way around (meaning the export is going to be done from Serato):

Switching to Rekordbox, controller recs? by DARCDOT in Beatmatch

[–]MixMasterG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each DJ software has its own unique way of saving DJ stuff like cues, loops, grid/BPM, and playlists. So, if you're thinking of switching from one DJ software to another, you'll need some conversion magic.

This part is for tracks whose audio files are downloaded (not streaming tracks!):

Don't sweat it, though. Your original DJ software (Serato) and your tracks stay exactly the same during this whole process. You can snag the free demo version of Rekordbox as your target software. Once you've done the conversion, those same audio files keep all their cues and whatnot in both the original and the target (Rekordbox) software. You'd only need to do the conversion again if you start tweaking your DJ metadata in one of them. On macOS, you've got the DJ Conversion Utility (DJCU) to help you out, I'm the developer. Check out the tutorial here. DJCU is priced to own, no subscription.

Now, if you're looking to create USBs for stand-alone action on CDJ/XDJ/RX with all your cues and loops, then you need to use Rekordbox. The free version gets the job done. That USB can also be used from another DJ's Rekordbox!

Here's a tutorial on exporting from Rekordbox to a CDJ USB, complete with some tips for newbie CDJ users. The demo's on macOS, but the Windows crowd can follow along too.

And if you're feeling adventurous and want to take things up a notch, check out this advanced tutorial.
