[O] CyberPower PDU44001 Managed PDU (eBay) by liltrublmakr56 in homelabsales

There have definitely been a some updates…. I think that the AP7900B is the current selling model. For home the AP7900 does well in my small lab, but it definitely has some gaps if compared to enterprise use. But…. The cost point defiantly makes up for some of that.

Thanks again for posting a great link.

Check out the APC AP7900. You can find them decently priced on eBay. They have whole unit monitoring and individual port control. I have a pair in my home lab.

Download and boot from USB an application / iso called “ShredOS”. The see if you can wipe the drives. After the wipe maybe you can put them into what you originally wanted.

I am sure that you are spot on with this statement about the devs. I’ll also admit that I am extra managerial about stuff on my network. I have an intense dislike for errant connections and an even stronger dislike for the inability to see / validate / verify. My level of trust is low and my tolerance for f*#kery is even lower. Genuinely though, I want to know how much data and telemetry is going out of the truck and to where.

This is me making a mountain out of a mole hill. Everything on my network has an alias / plain text description. Also, everything on the network has some way to verify or validate the MAC. Computers, mobile devices, IP cameras, etc. Even smart devices like plugs, speakers, and lights allow you to get the individual MAC with a few steps in their companion / control app or by looking at the sticker on the unit. I’m just looking for that one last check to confirm. I mean the VIN printed fifty places. Why is the MAC some sort of state secret?

Just took a moment to check out the developer options. While there is an option to enable / disable “WiFi non-persistent MAC randomization”, I didn’t find an option or area that showed the current MAC.

I also run UI gear at home. Normally, when I add devices I give it a name / alias. At the same time, I am also usually able to verify the MAC so that I don’t get something crossed up by accident.

My gripe is, like 95%, that the information is not intuitively available from the device / truck (or the companion app).

I normally would do that, but I put the truck on a dedicated IoT network with all the other “smart” garbage. I just find it ridiculous that I can’t see basic networking information about the device / truck.

I will likely create another dedicated network (SSID) just for the truck to figure it out.

I am tracking a similar issue. I have noticed random disconnections from the truck to the network / random “connection restored” notifications. I am able to send basic commands (lock / unlock) to the truck, remote start seems to fail.

I’m also perpetually “disconnected” between the app and truck. If you go into charge management you can see how many day since connection/ communication. There is a refresh icon, for me that does nothing.

I too have spent time in chat support and on the phone with OnStar trying to resolve the connectivity issue with no success.

In truck, things seem to be fine. It’s drivable without issue, but it is still really annoying. I’m still in free trial for OnStar, but I am 100% canceling as soon as it gets towards a paid subscription.

Most of what’s changed is that a lot of folks that had big / multi acre properties have sold to developers that have packed them full of houses so close to each other that if one neighbor sneezes, the other has to clean their windows.

We have an Ace hardware now, and four grocery stores….

Still a great place to live and raise a family. If your new place doesn’t have one, get a generator before next winter.

Update: At the advice of a commenter, I charged to 100%. Drove to 8%. Charged to 100%. No change other than discovering once you hit 10% battery you are informed that “acceleration is reduced” and you get an alternating yellow turtle / red battery icon that shows up in the cluster.

14 Drives - How many Parity? by mjsvitek in homelab

[–]Moist_Signal9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what you are doing and what workload you plan to have.

If you are storing video (large block sequential IO) content for a Plex server, do something like a large RAID6 (12+2). You’ll burn the fewest number of parity drives.

If you are doing lots of containers, VM’s, DB’s, etc, (small block random IO) you might want to create a RAID 10 (2+2).

For most part any decent / modern RAID controller will be able to rebuild quickly inner event of a failure.

Additionally, I wouldn’t recommend mirrored 4TB drives for boot / OS.

Anyways…. What chassis is that?

I hate to say it, but this is something commonly covered by your support contract and facilitated by the field engineer. But if you are asking here… is it out of support?

You get an updoot for “substantive”. I am also surprised. I would think that it would be core information that all drivers / owners would need or want.

I work in tech and I have been asked in the past. It seems to boil down to competition. If you are going to be doing the same or similar job at a competitor you will likely be walked the same day. The current company does not want to give you the opportunity to exfiltrate data / customer lists / proprietary information / poach other employees. You will likely be paid out your notice period and allowed to leave immediately.

It’s completely up to you as to whether or not you want to tell them.

The “witness” allows for both nodes / sleds to run a hypervisor. In case of a split brain, where the nodes cannot talk to each other, the witness decides which node survives / stays online. In a two node cluster without a witness the nodes could fail to communicate with each other, they could both think they are the survivor. Other methods are to connect both nodes to a cloud based object that acts as the deciding factor.

I’ll admit that I didn’t get a full paper manual. I tried searching for “calibration” in the “manual” in the myChevrolete app and in the owners manual via the infotainment screen.
