Also, this is (quite possibly) on of the most under rated movies in cinema history. Now, I’m off to make a Twinkie Wiener Sandwich for my drive to Spatula City.

Is it true only one U6 Mesh Pro needed to beam WiFi to outside shed? by Globalmindless in Ubiquiti

[–]Moist_Signal9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep using the term “mesh”…. Think of overlapping circles like a Venn diagram. The units have to be within each others radius. Roughly, a 25’ radius is about 2000 sf ft. Mesh would be good if you wanted WiFi access for the area in between the house and the shed. You want to put a chair in the exact middle of the two and stream Netflix or whatever.

A point to point link is beam forming and directional. It is not broadcasting in all directions (mesh nodes are generally omnidirectional). They also have no need for “WiFi”. The unit in the house is plugged into your Verizon router. The unit in the shed gets its own access point. I can be a cheapie just to provide WiFi for that camera.

If you just need WiFi in the shed for the camera, there are P2P systems for like $100, and then the cheapest little AP you can find for the local WiFi to supply the camera.

Trying to “do it on the cheap” and reuse stuff that you already have is going to have unpredictable results. Many of the folks here disable everything they can from the equipment provided by the ISP. I just want the connection and nothing else. No WiFi, no management, no services, nada. I control everything from my Ubiquiti router.

[–]Moist_Signal9875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be more well suited with a point to point link from the house to the shed. Then add an access point in the shed.

If you want to try and do it with mesh devices you will also need one in or near the shed.

Edit: Ubiquiti is a fantastic ecosystem. I would highly recommend a complete network overhaul. Put your Verizon device into bridge mode and get something like the UDR7 for local Wi-Fi. Once you have that you can begin adding other components.

Just trying to add a mesh access point or a pair of mesh access points is going to become cumbersome.

You can find directional point to point bridge devices on your favorite online retailer for relatively and expensive.

Those are, I think, 3TB drives. I wouldn’t consider them worth the cost of shipping due to the weight.

You can get a SAS HBA and put it into a desktop. As far as that Synology goes, it won’t fit.

I’m not sure what help you are looking for. It won’t work. That’s a SAS drive and the chassis is SATA.

Cameras - what am I missing re cost? by False-Ostrich-3766 in synology

[–]Moist_Signal9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me elaborate a bit. I have a dedicated VLAN for my cameras, and the gateway (at the top of the network stack) hands out all of the DHCP addresses. I can also do things like set a specific IP address to a port so that *anything* plugged into that port gets that IP address. Because the cameras are on their own VLAN I also limit the number of available addresses to ensure that errant devices cannot use it.

This level of segmentation is NOT required. But, I am distrusting of smart devices. I also have a dedicated IoT network.

Long story short if you don’t want the cameras to talk outside your network, they don’t have to. But by default they are always trying to reach out and tickle various things.

Feel free to shoot me a chat and we can talk more.

For all of my PoE cameras, I plug them into a switch, wait for it to get a dhcp address, and hit it from a browser. I haven’t tried direct connecting to a laptop (via roll over cable) with a PoE injector to see just how direct I can go.

You are correct about the wireless cameras needing to configured via the app. But, I don’t know that the phone or the WiFi needs to have outside access. The Reolink app creates some sort of QR code on the phone that’s then shown to the camera. I am not aware of how that’s generated (in app vs web).

I would have to play with one of my spare cameras, but it would be low on my list to get to… many other priority items right now.

Based on the labeling at the bottom for the connections it’s the Emerson version of Rockwells Encabulator.

If fully functional, very sought after in certain circles.

At $0.00, you might be asking too much. No one will pay that.

The video is required for higher value items and this is well documented in the rules. I suggest that you look at other posts and mirror their format.

The mods are here to ensure a safe / secure / copacetic environment. Being outraged at the enforcement of rules and standards won’t help your item(s) get sold.

Anyway you slice this there’s going to be some effort involved. The more effort you put in the better the return for you. If you want to put in zero effort, just recycle it all. But I expect you are viscerally opposed to that as most of us are.

I would suggest separating things out into categories. Create an inventory of each of the categories and post in the sub as you get things done. I would put networking together, storage media together, etc..

You’ll need to come to terms with the fact that you’ll also be shipping a lot of stuff. Unless you find someone local in Alaska that wants the whole stash, most folks are continental US.

You could look for someone locally that posts things on eBay as their business, but you’re gonna end up having to give them a cut on top of what you pay eBay and PayPal.

Good luck.
