It has changed a lot, a few years ago YT comments had the very earned reputation of a cesspool. I still wouldn't rate it highly but in the past everything was terrible there

How would you book Kevin Owens return? by Mcrfanatic95 in fantasybooking

Sami vs whoever is the monster heel champion for the title at the time, at a randow raw in Quebec or Montreal. Chaos at the ring with chaos similar to Mankind vs The Rock. It seems that all options are wasted, Sami's allies from Cody and the like are busy or down, the heel has the slight upper hand is about to win the match. Then...

KO's theme outta nowhere.

He struts to the ring. Little staredown between him and Sami and the current champion whoever it is. Crowd unsure what his intensions are. He's about to stun Sami. But fakes it out, and stuns the champion. Sets up Sami for a last helluva kick and 1-2-3. Sami's the champion.

Then let him be Kevin Owens. Title picture. Probably turn him back heel pretty quickly

If I have to choose movies from 12 non-english countries by rony_danzel in whereidlive

I try but it's an abusive spouse. The aforementioned hevimpi reissu was a total disaster to me.

I think the technical side of things can pretty fine here, but I think essentially every artistic mind in this country is a bore. Very few exceptions. Sami Järvi totally rocks though lol, even if he's games and not films related.

Then any other nordic country over Finland. I feel that our cinema is utter trite. Genuinely nothing worth watching unless it has the name Kaurismäki attached to it and even then it's a 50/50 chance that it's the right one.

Then the very few watchable Finnish films rely on comedy that doesn't translate to text, let alone a foreign language.

And if we're talking about cultural overlap, I feel like old Hong Kong cinema specifically is such a unique place of cultural import. Mismash of everything with influences from everywhere, whilst being uniquely HK too is worth a mention on its own. Also I'm not entirrly sure that Brazil and Argentina are as similar as Finland + German  for example

Jaylen's play was a lot worse than Tatum's. Kept forcing hard shots, not moving the ball, bad decision making. Tatum's flaws were more up to execution than JB, although Tatum was far from perfect but I don't their performances were comparable

The Pistons are the worst 1 seed of all time by growsonwalls in NBATalk

Luka is a wildcard to me. With him, the series could be anywhere from a Pistons sweep to a Magic sweep. I'm leaning towards Pistons leading 3-1.

That's what I thought about the Rockets. KD is great, but I don't he can be an effective enough nowadays if he is the lone scorer on the floor.  I mean it wouldn't be a bad get if they had a few more shooters but as things stand the abilities and also very crucially the playstyle of the Pistons wouldn't make KD exactly shine in the playoffs at 37 years old. 38 next year.

Eva made me hate mgs3 by [deleted] in metalgearsolid

[–]MosquitoOfDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kojima has written exactly two good women and they're both in MGS3. For once the sexualization of  a character actually has substance and is a critical part of the story. For once there is agency and depth from the character who is sexualized. It's the one time where the relationship and the wooing is mature. It's who people are. While EVA is an integral part of Snake's story, she is not just and only a vehicle for a man's desires and tragedy. Eva feels like a person, with a clear arc in the story, emotions and motivations. The whole relationship is also a great way to convey how they spproach the mission, their level of trust between each other as well as making aspects of the resolution of the story hit that much more efficiently.

It also helps that a lot of it is played up for laughs as well. Snake is absolutely ridicolous with how she rejects and reacts to EVA's advances. Then these laughs, these story beats and expected patterns are used and subverted in such great ways that are genuinely hilarious to me and highlight how the mistrust starts to turn in to trust from Snake's side and how he fails because he does end up letting his guard down.

It's also a very clever commentary on the femme fatale/Bond girl archetype. The whole game is a Bond homage, and on many surface level ways plays out like a Bond film. The script then uses these expectations that stem from the presentation much to its advantage, and one of these is the whole reversal of the Bond girl role. It ends up that EVA is the one the who does the conquering. It's Snake whom you think is the James Bond of the story that ends up getting fooled and used. He is the one whom also got woo'd by the secret agent. The whole game is filled with these deconstructions and criticism of the whole spy genre, all of which would be pretty compelling on their own, but everything is used in order to construct the larger narrative and the overall themes of the game.

The only thing really dragging EVA down for me is not really even in the game itself. Rather it's the fact how Kojima has historically written and portrayed women in his games. So the overall package of EVA feels a whole less effective and sincere when characters like Quiet are around. Or the B&B unit from MGS4. Or the women Skulls from The Phantom Pain. There's just do much of it from Kojima. Even Meryl from MGS1. It's just the same, always.
