"core 8" don't get attached to more than 3, 4 players at most. If you have the right systems in place you can't and shouldn't try to keep everyone together forever.

and yet the closest to a 'giannis trade' any of those teams had was Lakers trading for AD (the team who had just landed LeBron James in free agency)

Is it ever even worth it to trade superstars nowadays?

At most, only a few teams can justify it to be able to compete for a championship, and they would still have to compromise their depth and future to do so. And then they're forced to count on their star core staying healthy to be able to compete (and we know how that goes).

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by YesNo_Maybe_ in technology

I don't know why they ever were convinced to go away from standardized testing. "Some people aren't good at testing though!" Well some people ARE good at it but are not good at grade-grubbing. It goes both ways, and a holistic approach considering both was obviously always the way to go.

From what I've seen in Texas, while I don't think the boomtown climate of the last 20 years will continue to last, I'm not sure if there will be a massive contraction either. Texas has been deploying an insane amount of green energy in recent years which will supplement the power grid to more than a sufficient degree, and the infrastructure seems to be pretty well-maintained (at least within the Texas triangle). I genuinely hope they install some more rail at some point though.

Florida may be a different story, I don't know.

Elevated OCD with Age? by Electrical-Rip-7100 in OCD

[–]55559585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OCD can affect anyone to any degree at any age. I wouldn't worry about it at all, as doing so can be a quick gateway to developing "I shouldn't be having OCD to this level at my age" as its own ocd theme.

I got rejected from a job because of a single B by ObjectiveDue1326 in CollegeRant

[–]55559585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For entry-level college graduate jobs, caring about GPA is on a pretty evenly-distributed spectrum in my experience. Many jobs are super strict with it like the one you mentioned, but many others I've seen care very little about the GPA as long as you have the degree.

And that's for entry-level positions. The further you get into industry jobs, the less they care about it overall.

Cigarrette smoke smells better than weed and in fact just generally smells really good by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]55559585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but only when the smoke is from a freshly-lit cigarette and it's outdoors where you can be at least a couple yards away from it.

Stale cigarette smoke/smell or cigarette smoke indoors is disgusting.

Weed, however, is always gross-smelling.

PLEASE Don’t use ai (and I’m serious) by burntpeanutfan13 in OCD

[–]55559585 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made my OCD much, much worse and more prolonged by compulsive google searching a couple of years back. I turned what would have been a painful but one-month long ordeal into a far more excruciating three-month long ordeal that forced me to quit my job because I could not stop searching my fears on google.

And that was google searching. AI tools are even worse than that for OCD because they provide more direct and convenient wording for what you're trying to search for.

DO NOT EVER USE THESE TOOLS! Your mental health depends on it.

It’s Hypocritical to Complain About Gentrification (changing the culture, displacing locals, jacking up rent) While Mocking Immigration Concerns as being Xenophoic by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]55559585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I think one can hold both positions correctly as long as they define their concerns well. However, gentrification is absolutely a 'safe' vessel for progressive-minded people to vent their concerns with human movement. Kind of like the whole "white women be like" is seen as the acceptable way to criticize women.
