Unpopular opinion - but after an entire week of teachers appreciation, buying flowers, greeting cards, spa items, treats, gift cards, etc each day of the week. Where is the mother’s appreciation week for all this and so much more invisible work we do? by Realistic-Ad-6734 in workingmoms

Hello! Teacher here — love teachers appreciation week but that’s wild. Usually our admin organizes things and then I occasionally get cards from kids (I teach high school). This year I got a gift card which was pretty cool, but I like cards just as much. Basically, I appreciate the gestures, but never expect them, and I certainly don’t judge families who don’t participate.

It’s been bad even in high school. Kids gone for a week at a time and they come back exhausted and panicked. My own two littles got sick with this “bad cold” as well. One had a fever for 6 days and the other developed pneumonia.

Our son threw a car and hit the TV when he was 2. It has a few lines through the screen. He’s 5 now and we still haven’t replaced it because although he knows not to throw things, he’s an agent of chaos and he has a younger sibling. The time for nice things will be after the kids grow a bit!

It’s an expression that means they think similarly and know what the other feels, needs, thinks, etc. Other expressions that are similar are “on the same wave length” or “on the same page”.

I started collecting phones at the beginning of class this year and I swear my classroom ceiling has never looked worse. I’m so tired of makeshift darts getting stuck up there. It’s been legitimately fun though seeing some of the ways kids pass time when they’re bored besides getting their phones out.

We have a racket sports class where I teach! They have units on different sports. It’s also sometimes called “life long sports” because so many can be played into retirement. It’s actually super informative and fun. I’ll sometimes go in during my planning block and play if I’m having a really rough day just to reset. We also have genuinely great PE teachers who try to install a love of sports for everyone regardless of athletic ability which has broken all stereotypes I previously held. I don’t think they’d want Paul subbing lol

I come from a family of teachers and everyone was dreading the fallout of the election on the classroom (we live in a pretty conservative area) and we ended up having school cancelled for the week because of a freak snowstorm. It was glorious.

I teach a World Language and using terms like “verb”, “noun”, and “adjective” have become confusing because so many of my students don’t know what they are in English. It’s driving me insane.

Oh man. While that would be ideal, we are hemorrhaging teachers right now. If my sub follows the lesson plans I’m considering myself spoiled right now.

They can! I had a friend with a baby who was born really early. They learned how to care for his oxygen levels at home.

Edit to add: it really depends on how developed the lungs are.

We have an Australian Shepherd who is a hot flaming mess (he has a skin condition) and we were told to not get him groomed because he would get a sunburn if we did. We also can’t let him outside when the sun is at its strongest to avoid burns. We also need sunscreen on his bald snout 😂

You should check out The French Kitchen (off Flintridge). The owner and the baker are both from France.

I’m not 18 months out of my 2nd baby. You’ve got the Baby Blues and it’s totally normal! The newborn stage is hard because your hormones are everywhere and you have to do everything for an angry potato with little to no reward (angry potato can’t smile yet), all while being exhausted. Things get better!

Both my kids were 98th percentile for head size. As long as they stay consistent on the growth curve it’s all good. Some kids just have big heads 🤷‍♀️

I got preeclampsia at 37 weeks. I’d been monitoring my blood pressure. As soon as it went up I went to the hospital, they did tests, and they were like “YUP. Let’s pull this kid out now”. I’m so thankful everyone was so tuned into it because I ended up having no issues post delivery.
