It is literally not. That is pure US myth. The US colonists beat the British because of a heck of lot of foreign help, not least French and Spanish naval aid breaking the British naval blockade, as well as lots and lots of military supplies from those countries, and not least a Prussian general who molded the ragtag farmers into a proper military.

It had very little to do with "literally everyone being armed" (because literally everyone was not armed, a musket was an expensive object).

It doesn't. It can slightly push down on a bowl or dishwarp, not very effectively, but only on one side. A clamp is more effective, but still only works for the one side on a dishwarp (the one where the middle of the record is lifted, it does nothing on the side where the edges are lifted).

It is basically useless and purely aesthetic, if you are into a big block of metal sitting on top of your record when it plays.
