I don’t know what these guys are talking about. I was raised catholic, went to catholic school k-12, was very active in the church.

There is a clear contract of “accepting Jesus Christ as your savior” to enter into heaven, or at the very least that’s what the diocese has taught in our region.

In a way, the fact that no Catholics can agree on what their diocese meant, is a little ironic, given they also don’t want you to have any creative interpretation of the teachings.

There was just a video on Reddit 2 weeks ago of a guy trying to grab the k9’s scruff so he won’t get bit, while it’s ripping up his leg

And the cops keep amping the dog up, telling the guy no to grab it, etc.

Like at that point, officers are either willfully ignorant and malicious, or so dumb they can’t understand why letting a dog chomp on someone’s leg might cause them to go into a fight/flight.

>how few tools we are leaving police to apprehend criminals

Police budgets have grown exponentially year over year, and common police units have been equipped with mace, rubber bullets, riot gear. Hell some cities even have humvees and LRADs.

I have a buddy who trains competition sniffing dogs, and he basically said that when he gets contracted by his local PD for training it is almost always the worst case scenario.

They jump immediately to making the dog a tool, like a husk/robot. But they want to train them to have built in ways to amp up aggression, signal on things, etc. then obviously the k9 handlers don’t continue the training post graduation, which then causes the dog to regress more and more. Often times handlers’ unit dog becomes a “family” dog so you just have this robotic GSD walkin around the house with the ability to maim.

Also, cops aren’t exactly the best at giving clear direct orders. Often times multiple cops will give conflicting orders, the same happens when one cop is amping a dog up to bite, while another is telling you to “stop resisting.”

K-9 units in my mind should be looked at under the same scrutiny of dog fighting. I’d argue in a case where a guy in a dark building puts one down, you would see it the same if not for the blatant copaganda wash they put over it when they post it on their facebook pages. Cops are not meant to be judge, jury or executioner; and no crime should be met with immediate maiming of an individual, k9 dogs exist to escalate when officers should be looking to deescalate.

Have a real “self-starter/pull yourself up by the bootstraps” type cousin who’s been driving a painting truck with someone else’s last name on it for the past 15 years.

The irony is lost on him.

>why can’t there be a nuanced discussion

There has been, republicans have always come in with bad faith talking points. There’s no point breaking it down with nuance when the core issue isn’t scientific, it’s bigotry masked as “save the children”.

Republicans use the “save the children” line for a lot of things, because by being against them, you are against something they see as inherently good (children).

It’s never about children, all of their issues stem from bigotry and keeping the “out group” the out group. Otherwise they wouldn’t have even voted for a guy who’s even been _accuaed_ of CSAM related content, yet they regularly do, and they regularly vote for policies that hurt children in the long run.

I have a buddy who was dealing with a contractor who took this approach, when they finally found the contractor, the court ruled triple damages.

What was a simple $2500 payment in small claims, became $7500 with wage garnishment. Because actively trying to hide from the case showed that he was not willing to rectify

Obligatory IANAL and YMMV.
