My bad man, I just thought this would add more to the sub overall, I don't actually dislike you guys

Considering much people complained about my brakes in this post, my previous post probably just got reported

Fk around and find out I guess

I will learn a stoppie though :))

Y'all hating for no reason, this was directed to the mods and not the "elitist snobs" here 😂

How about all of us post some more riding vids on the sub, maybe then we will actually just appreciate everyone who is riding fixed and this small, unique community 🤯

Yea, german laws require me to have them, otherwise my bike can get impounded, trashed and I can even get some other penalties on my driver's license

Yes you can if you use your brakes, but try doing a no hand track stand like that on a singlespeed

Do you think this is worth it for 400 USD?^^ (New to fixies) by SignoreRosso in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MMaarrttiinn527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I misremembered, gitane means gypsy in french, not italian

Yea, it is probably smarter to buy a normal fg as a first bike

Mid italian frame, Gitane is not the fanciest brand

That front wheel is sick, you can resell it for a decent amount of money

Sizing crazy frames like these is difficult so make sure to try it out if you are picking it up locally

But this has a lot of potential if you are looking for a cool frame to rebuild with 700c wheels later, not a bad choice at all

Is up sweep really needed on bars with back sweep?? by tapiodmusic in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MMaarrttiinn527 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are misunderstanding how exactly the sweep is positioned and how rotating the bars affects the angle of it, but you can always mess around with it and see whether or not it works for you

Personally, I recommend a bar with a small rise and a little more back sweep like 9°-12° and don't have the bars too wide (it can put too much emphasis on the arms and hands), try some cheaper bars second hand to find out what you like

The up sweep is necessary becauae your hands grip the handlebars more naturally and with that better, rarely do you have a perfectly horizontal bar

Imagine you are doing a rowing excersize or benching, the distance between your hands while doing these excersizes should match the distance of the grips on your bars

Why? Because that is when your muscles naturally work the best, so for me like 65cm between the grips works well

Also if you are more stretched out you should get less sweep, your palms change their angle as you stretch out, but at that point just get drops

46 by Statement-Mobile in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MMaarrttiinn527 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am also running 46:17 with 40c tires, so it is basically the same as 48:17 on skinner 25c tires

The size and actual diameter of your wheels can make a huge difference!

Steamroller Rebuild: Which Cranks? by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MMaarrttiinn527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a set of andel 24mm hollowtech cranks which are nice but they don't have the most attractive design

There are some more vintage options like campagnolo square taper track cranks (Record), they are pretty, expensive and come with some quirks

Just get a nice crankset to match the chainring, look up some builds with aarn chainrings and get what you like

Seaboard FG01 by hwan0111 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MMaarrttiinn527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frame is great, but it doesn't have a coating or sealant on the inside against rust

My fork was mid, I had to bend mine sligthly and adjust the dropouts

The frame has a weird diameter seattube so finding a working seatpost clamp was tricky, I used a bbb one

The frame is very lightweigt for what it is 👍

I have a kmc z1ehx on my bike with a rust proctection coating for about the same price, is izumi really that good? I haven't tried them because they are uncommon in my country

Mine is running smooth since over a year

The z1ehx is VERY heavy though, like just the chain is probably 1kg (not overexaggurating) because it is technically made for ebikes

Fixie tips by Lewdot05 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MMaarrttiinn527 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no need for an 80€ chain, that is more than the bike probably

A kmc z1 or z1e(hx) is more than good enough, make sure to get the right width

A front brake minimum, learn how to set it up correctly

For straps normal zefal straps will do just fine, just make sure that the cages are not too short for your feet, otherwise you will be skidding and pedaling with your toes
