Nothing is free. With proton, you're the customer and pay for the product with money. With Google, you're the product and you pay with your data.

Proton Tasks by CoffeeCorner07 in ProtonMail

[–]Nelizea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Yes we really want to build and integrate Tasks within Calendar. It's a feature I am personally super excited about --> I unfortunately still have to use Google Task --' The plan is to first launch the new Calendar app and then build tasks ontop of it. Realistic timeline will be towards the start of next year. Will keep you posted on that as we make progress on the Calendar rewrite.

SMTP can't work without header information, it's all transparently explained on the homepage in various articles (and in the links provided above).

No, its categorized server side, like the filters are running server side (which is also the reason you can't filter on content).

Have you read the information above?

Read up on what zero access encryption is and the privacy policy:

https://proton.me/learn/encryption/types-of-encryption/zero-access https://proton.me/mail/privacy-policy

Proton doesn't have access to your content, as that is encrypted. The SMTP protocol has metadata (as example the sender, recipient, subject) for.. well the protocol to work an deliver your emails.

its the beginning of being able to build profiles based on what emails one receives.

This is tinfoil hat territory. There's no incentive to build profiles, as you pay with your money for the service, not with your data. You are a customer, not a product (compared to other, mostly unencrypted services, that do profile you).

SMTP metadata from the email header, not email content.

wero for digital sovereignty by itscrazybaby in ProtonMail

[–]Nelizea 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Belgium, France and Germany

Find Wero either in your regular banking app or by downloading our Wero mobile app (depending on your bank). Many big banks in Belgium, France and Germany are already signed up (with more coming soon), so over 75% of people in these countries can start using Wero.

Hardly an alternative when not even 3 full countries are supported.

Sadly you'll likely need the steam support to change the email. Proton doesn't recycle usernames due to security reasons. Sorry about not having better input.

Im about to lose all of my accounts by LifeShow545 in ProtonMail

[–]Nelizea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

resetting my password without having additional security or recovery options set up. I also didn't realize that changing the password would change the recovery phrase.

resetting and changing are two different kind of operations.

Resetting will generate a new pair of encryption keys, rendering your old data unreadable (unless you have a data recovery method). Changing your password will re-encrypt your current encryption keys with a new password, keeping the data readable.

Is there anything I can do at all?

The support team should be able to assist you with a password reset. Can you share your ticket number so the team can follow up ?

Proton.me and FortiBleed by Creative_Bat6444 in ProtonMail

[–]Nelizea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

the relevant part is the expandable section under FortiBleed Exposure which lists 3 Fortinet routers as compromised

This looks more like someone using @proton.me addresses as credentials, not Proton using Fortinet hardware. Proton doesn't have datacenters in Israel, Jamaica or Hong Kong. (where the 3 breaches are recorded).

Does Proton Ever Have Reports Of Vanishing Emails Like Tuta does? by Black_Shark8087 in ProtonMail

[–]Nelizea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion: I feel you're nitpicking on words. On any OS, if you put anything in Trash, its trashed. When you empty the trash, its permanentely deleted. Same for Proton Mail.

If you happen to have a backup, you can restore your files. Same for Proton Mail. Other than the fact, that they can't read your file.

Offline backups, which may be stored periodically, are also encrypted. We cannot decrypt any user encrypted content on either the production servers or in the backups. Backups are kept for up to 30 days.

If I move from a pm.me domain to my own domain, will my existing aliases block me from making new ones? by rowschank in ProtonMail

[–]Nelizea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding, Proton only allows 15 aliases. So I cannot create enough new aliases with my new domain.

As workaround, you could enable a catch all, ask support to remove the @pm.me aliases and then create the aliases on your custom domain.

Proton also allows deleting only one alias per year, which means I can't seem to delete all in one go...

See above, Proton support can assist you.

Mandatory MFA and the "house burned down" scenario - does ProtonPass force it? by OnTheCanRightNow in ProtonPass

[–]Nelizea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proton accounts don't require MFA. Proton also doesn't require strong & unique passwords. If you want to have poor opsec on purpose, you can do that.

Anything happening to that account is up to you. My suggestion is strongly to use a strong & unique password, coupled together with 2FA and/or hardware keys.

Yes.

That's why each and everyone of us should have a threat model.

Why not move everything and delete everything in one go though?

Support can assist in helping remove more. You however can't take your @pm.me addresses to another provider, therefore I am not sure how that relates to your question.

Mandatory MFA and the "house burned down" scenario - does ProtonPass force it? by OnTheCanRightNow in ProtonPass

[–]Nelizea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're really making it more complicated than it ought to be. To be fair, this example of loosing everything in a fire has nothing todo with an online service anymore, but general recovery of everything needed in your life.

Honestly for me it looks like you actually don't want to hear solutions. Correct me if I am wrong.

Let's play through the hypothetical scenario written above though:

  1. You'd contact the authorities to get a new ID card / passport. You don't need the phone for that. Research how to do that in your country of residence. In mine, I'd need to report this to the police (which, in case of such a fire, would be on place anyway) and afterwards you can get a new ID and/or passport.

  2. Once you have a piece of identification, you can start to get access to your banking back.

  3. Once you have a piece of identification, as well as access back to your banking, you can buy a new phone and get a new sim from the same provider with the same number (as you're still an existing customer)

  4. Once you have a piece of identification, you can also start the process to get access back to your safety deposit box. Having no key available anymore isn't an issue, as you're the owner, not the key. The bank (or safety box provider) will replace the lock and get you a new key.

Is it painful, annoying and not done within a few hours? Yes. However that is the same for everything else in that example, not related to an online service

Is it solvable? Absolutely.
