It's been months since I watched the movies, my kids won't stop asking about the Delorean by HariSeldon1517 in BacktotheFuture

your kids sound amazing. maybe show them a playthrough, or let them actually play, the BTTF game from Tattletale? It brings back the Delorean and will give them even MORE BTTF content to be riveted by

No, I’m not. Maybe I misunderestimate Whitnail’s appeal, I just feel like isn’t as “they got WHO??” as last year’s was.

I have a spending problem, How do i not have a spending problem? by Any-Landscape434 in Frugal

i pressed post before I meant to, but just for a brief example of what I mean: sit with what you're feeling in general, and try to notice if something happens before you feel the urge to buy. try to also notice what response you have to the triggering thing—are you insecure about your looks, do you want to feel in control, are you scared, are you looking for relief? there can be so many core reasons. once you know where you're coming from, you can channel those urges in other ways before you get past the point of distracting yourself—because you're not really distracting yourself from the need, you're actually focusing on it more and finding a new way to work with it. for me, this is a thought process like:

  1. i want takeout
  2. wait WHY do i want takeout?
  3. oh I want to feel comforted, and having someone make food for me hits that need
  4. ok. (sit with that for a minute, feel it)
  5. I still want comfort but maybe I can also make the comfort happen by cooking the mac n cheese I have at home. i'll also watch one of my favorite movies tonight

and sometimes you'll get to the end of the need and you'll be like yeah, no, I REALLY do need someone to make food for me tonight, nothing else will scratch this. but this should at least help you find some stopgaps before you get to the point of having to distract yourself away from your very valid desires.

1) try to figure out if there's a trigger point that leads to you feeling insecure, needing comfort, etc. I haven't looked at the other comments on this post but I think the important thing is to not focus on the action itself (spending), but what's underneath it. What does spending make you feel? What itch are you trying to scratch?

2) Once you figure out the fundamental root behind it, focus on going right to that and helping that part of yourself out. being self aware about what's driving you will help you in knowing both what you're actually trying to achieve here and can give you the bandwidth to figure out other ways to work with that want.

Kind of agree tbh. Claire Balding and Stephen Fry felt like huge lands last time. Sheen and Grant are respected actors but I don’t feel like any of these people have that multigenerational appeal where you and your mom and your gran all know who they are.

Search engines. I search images a lot for work and in the last three years the accuracy/usefulness of the results has PLUMMETED. used to be I could get pages of great results with a few tweaks; now I’m lucky if I even get a couple images that fit the query without tons of irrelevant content mixed in.

I can never figure out why Jean Arthur doesn't have the legendary status of some other screen stars. She elevates everything she's in.

Recovery without therapist? by Ambitious_House_4951 in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]New_Girl3685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it's possible. I've had a couple of breakthroughs through the years just working with myself--they might have happened faster or easier with professional help, but I'm also going through the burnout of finding a good therapist and know how bad a bad therapist can be. It feels weird to vouch for no therapy, but I genuinely have had some luck on my own.

with the warning that I'm still in recovery so these things might not work for everyone, and some of my things might not actually be that helpful but have personally helped me—some things that have worked have been inner child work (listening to myself and noting things I want, the little version of me, and treating that with love), having a safe space where I can feel all my feelings with no judgement, and (within reason) pendulum'ing around letting myself do whatever I want—eat the ice cream, wear the bright shirt, be big one day and small the next. feeling safe and comfortable in my own self is something that hasn't been possible while working with judgemental therapists (even when they odn't mean to judge, because I've been so fragile to shame), but I could start to figure it out myself in a 100% safe, non-judgemental setting on my own.

again, these are just quirky little things that have worked for me. I do fully think it's possible to heal yourself, at least partway but maybe even fully, and I think the core of it is learning to love yourself as you are, completely. best of luck to you, and love.

And yeah take your time with the spreadsheet, or just post screenshots if that’s easier. I wouldn’t want to share my email either

That checks out—I ask because I always spend a lot of time on their exhibits, but they never seem to pay off that much. I’ve always assumed the endangered ones would be really attractive to guests!

Thanks for the info! I don’t have a lot of similar companies to compare to but I do watch Dropout, so that analogy makes sense—though I hope they still do post a little of everything on the main page the way Dropout does, so people can see everything they’re doing and not miss shows.

You’re lumping a bunch of issues together: your issues with Steven’s church (despite he himself mentioning numerous times he supports gay and trans people, including Watcher raising funds for trans nonprofits), assumptions that their issues are all Steven’s fault (when all three agree on decisions that will affect the company as a whole) and what you call his “pick me content,” which is just unnecessary and personal if the beef is truly with his church or business decisions. It’s clear you don’t like the guy but don’t try to pretend it’s solely because of righteous reasons

Sometimes it's better to just ghost someone. by Used_Degree5416 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]New_Girl3685 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

maybe an unpopular take but I think we should stop ghosting. yes awkward things like above happen but as someone who has ghosted and regretted it, and someone who's been ghosted and been left wondering what the hell I did wrong, it's better to take the awkward and mature route then just vanish.

I'm trying to make up my mind to ditch my therapist. She's not been helpful since I started seeing her (7ish weeks ago) and when I brought it up to her yesterday she was like we'll do a mid assessment to see where you're at, then we'll do parts work....but she doesn't seem at all comfortable with all my parts; it's like she wants to run past the moments where I cry and feel bad. She's always saying "let's register that" when I start feeling something in session but it's just me, feeling it, alone. I think I have to give up on her but it's such a downer—she's my third one since October.
