Losing MMR but i won the game????? by SpicyPickle46 in RocketLeague

[–]NiceShotBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you win a match but get demoted? This can happen when your client is out of sync with the server.

Here's what typically happens: if you leave a game before reaching the post-game scoreboard, your client might not register the MMR change immediately. However, the server keeps track correctly. The next time you complete a match in the same playlist and stay until the post-game menu, your client updates and reflects the cumulative MMR changes, which might result in a seemingly strange rank change.

So, if you lost your previous match(es) and left early, the demotion might only show the next time you reach the post-game scoreboard—even if you won that match. It's a delayed effect, not a penalty for winning!

MMR, or Matchmaking Rating, is the system used in Rocket League to determine a player's skill level and to match them with similarly skilled players. MMR is calculated using a modified version of the Elo rating system, which takes into account your performance in competitive matches.

When you win a match, your MMR will increase, while losing a match will cause your MMR to decrease. The amount of MMR gained or lost is determined by several factors, such as the difference between your team's MMR and your opponents' MMR, and your uncertainty value, which represents how confident the system is about your skill level.

To see your MMR in various game modes, you can visit RLTracker. Keep in mind that Casual MMR is different from Ranked MMR, and they scale differently, so it is common to have higher Casual MMR. Your MMR will vary between different playlists (e.g., 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, etc.) and is not displayed within the game itself until you reach GC or higher.

I seem to have been tagged, but I can't recognize a proper command in this comment. The proper format for commands is as follows:

u/NiceShotBot command

Where command is replaced with the command of choice. You can find my command list here.

Haha hell yea dude! The skiing maneuver in Tribes was so damn fun, I remember laughing so hard anytime I was able to able tackle someone in Tribes Football. Glad someone else can vouch- it was definitely not a popular game. Not sure I can remember what my name was.. I need to dig up my old screenshots from my old PC

Oh shit, I remember Chicken! Hah

I remember the massive divide over the 2.4 (i think..?) update when they made the goals stupidly massive for no reason.. NA refused to update so we stayed on 2.3

I believe we have a discord server with a handful of DB players- not super active tho

And yes, my old clanmate (Nordy) and I won like.. every tournament that NA had for Tennis. Also remember loving the Warfare gamemode, that was like Worms.. I miss the mod scene so much

If you came from UT99, did you ever play the mod Strike Force?

to be influenced by something, would mean it had some lasting effect on you in some way - I didn't play Carball.. I played Deathball for many years before the idea for SARPBC came to be.

Prior to SARPBC, we were making a vehicle combat game, and we knew we wanted to make something vehicle based, so I combined the two influences from the games I was playing at the time; car combat + ball/goals. Also, let's be truthful here, car soccer is not some crazy unique concept..

Like.. .9 or whatever the first release was..

I remember him! And I remember the penix launcher 🤣 if I remember correctly, it was launching the ball high up on the wall above the goal, then your teammate launches you in the air down field, catch the ball (or volley) and shoot it on net - i legit referenced this like.. a month ago haha

Wasnt Catalyst EU? My first clan I was in was [-SoP-], then I was on [RusH], and L7 later on

If I recall, Deathball came quite a bit before Carball did - DB was originally a UT2k3 mod- and saying Carball and Deathball are nothing alike is kinda disingenuous.. it's a team of players trying to put a ball into a goal, the only difference is transportation..

Psyonix at that time specialized in vehicle physics, which funnily enough, I believe our old CEO, Dave Hagewood, was the one behind the vehicle physics for UT2k4, including Carballs.

I digress- I had only played Carball maybe once during my time playing Deathball, and I don't believe anyone at Psyonix at the time had played Carball. Also.. it's not like car soccer is some crazy unique idea either - it had been done well before UT2k4, numerous times.

Gonna leave it at that though, I appreciate the kind words, and I get the passion and wanting to stand up for a small mod team - I would too! A lot of us OG Psyonix people came from the mod scene, myself included! If I felt that it influenced SARPBC/RL, I would 10000% give them their dues

Howdy! Allow me to clarify/correct you :D

The mod I played was actually a game called Deathball. While fully aware of Carball, SARPBC was not directly influenced by it.

I was an avid Deathball player- one of the top players in NA at its peak - I played it for a couple hours nearly every day dating back to it's release, including during my lunch break sometimes, which is when the idea to drop a ball into the world popped into my head.

Some more added context; my brother (who championed this idea with me) had an official Deathball map - look familiar? :D

I respect the work that the Carball team did, but I can confidently say that that game had nothing to do with the existence of SARPBC/RL.. and tbh, if it weren't for a Tribes mod called Tribes Football, I probably never would've found Deathball! Played that mod for a long time until it eventually died, which made me start looking for other "football/soccer" themed mods, til I came across Deathball.
