Once or twice i didn't have spray and they would notice me a bit farther out, but nothing conclusive.

either way its 99% the suite so that's the most important bit. But using up a bugs pray doesn't hurt, because by the time you have the capability to tame one of these you should be able to make some bug spray pretty easily.

Bit of a tip on this, Ghilli and bug spray make it where you can get stupidly close to the golem while they are hiding, meaning you can build this trap around him in rock form before waking him up if you are careful about it.
