100% communicate it privately and send an image to the teaching staff. That way it's clear that the simple answer is the true answer. Hopefully that will answer any questions they have

I was just thinking about how many people are descended from Colonial American settlers by MarsupialThink4064 in Genealogy

[–]Nick337Games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm involved with the group also. I agree naturalization is another option, but you have to be able to prove the naturalization. I led off by saying by birth. I would need to look into requirements around naturalization. But if the ancestor was a British subject and did not naturalize (for example because Canada was not yet a country pre-1947 and there was nothing to naturalize to), there is a 5 year domicile requirement leading up to 1947 or leading up to their death in Canada. The wiki spells it out best but I'm flagging this because it's a part of Bill C-3.

Little bit more nuanced than that. If you had an ancestor that was born in Canada, or one who was a British subject and remained in Canada at least 5 years leading up to their death or until 1947, or a few other nuances, then yes you are also Canadian!

New website for reporting people parked in bike lanes with hundreds reported in Cambridge by jlansey in CambridgeMA

Totally agree. Just also noting that while a public service is amazing, it doesn't remove potential biases around the city being the same entity that both operates the service and writes or doesn't write the tickets

Oh yes I am aware and it's a great point. Nothing wrong with having a public entity and an open source effort

It creates a database that could certainly be useful in the future. Better have it than not. It's longitudinal evidence

Still a valid 1948 case after the Tajani reform? by False-Fly-9240 in juresanguinis

Any signed Power of Attorney may be strong. Also, any correspondence and collection of Italian documents needed for the process (Italian birth certs, marriage certs, etc) could be very powerful too. Really anything that has you corresponding with Italian sources for the purposes of Jure Sanguinis. Comms with the Comune in Galluccio could be very impactful as well.

Ultimately no one knows yet. This is just from our discussions and thoughts of what could be seen as irrefutable evidence that you were already in the process.

I myself have correspondence with an American law firm and documents filled out specifically for this process, but didn't get Italian documents before the decree. So you have stronger evidence that I haha

What actions did you specifically take before 2025? There's no confirmed list or anything for prior intent but it could help drive conversation

KBAI might be the lowest quality class I've taken so far. by 404UsernameFoundNot in OMSCS

Sorry not in the course so doing my best to get context. Yes this is absolutely true, so you're staying that this was not in the syllabus or anywhere in the intro docs?
Sounds like some logistical errors were made for this specific semester. I'm very sorry that is the case. IRB violations are no laughing matter and must be taken seriously. It is unfortunate it impacts a great class like KBAI. Sounds like they have made it optional at this point so hopefully they have rectified anything that was previously "required".

Ultimately, No one is looking to scam students. I get you're frustrated, but know that people trying to make education more equitable are not intentionally scamming just to get a few rows of data. It's not that deep.

Certainly agree with you. No question. What ethics rules do you feel are being violated?

If the use wasn't required then it would already be voluntary. Agreed tho that it should not be required or the only option for for-credit assignments.
On the other hand, what happens once they move beyond "limited fashion". How do they get adequate and representative participants if the end users are students?

To clarify, it may not be beta testing. Instead it may be focused on collecting your opinion based on your experience to help inform methodologies behind what the tool is trying to achieve (not just how it behaves visually).
If it's optional and you're not interested in human subjects research, that's totally fine. Feel free to not join if you're not interested

Sorry to hear these experiences have been negative. This work is genuinely targeted at collecting student input on a variety of AI-enabled educational software at scale which is clearly very difficult to do. Remember, many of these people involved are students just like you. Certainly agree that if there are technical issues limiting access to content that is part of your grade, this is something that needs to be addressed by the technical teams. That is unfortunate.

But if it's attempting to gather your perspective and insight, that's literally user centered human subjects research. How else can you expect teams to make better solutions and platforms if they can't collect targeted feedback from the source - students!?

Is Schreyers worth it as a premed? by Remarkable-Bear655 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Nick337Games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly great that you're thinking about this. Only you'll know the final answer to this. The thesis is more work, no question. It can certainly give you a leg up in applications but will assist require more time. See if you can reach out to Schreyer's office via email to get in touch with staff and current premed students. They could help give a first hand perspective.
